I took my pets to this practice based on my Pet Assure coverage. I asked their staff if my 25% discount applied and then said it would. Upon arriving at the practice different staff members relayed that the 25% discount would not apply to the boarding or bath. They instead of honoring the discount relayed that they would not and did not release my pets to me until I paid the full amount without the discount. After insisting they connect with the team member that agreed to the discount they continued to claim falsely the PetAssure website indicated for consumers that the discount only applied for non medical services. I had to wait at the front of their facility for over forty five minutes for their team to finally still not honor their verbal agreement. The original estimate they gave me was $160 for boarding plus baths then charged me $290 on arrival. The original $160 would have been reduced. They wouldn't allow me to leave without paying the whole charge. The employee that helped me today was kind and forthcoming. I'll dispute this charge and recommend customers not engage this business Regardless of Pet Assure saying they do not cover this at this point in time, other animal care clinics have honored this and the real issue for me is that The People's Pets relayed on the phone and in person (after driving 20 minutes both ways) that they would honor my PetAssure discount for my services, changed this once it was time to pay, harassed me by telephone, then sent the insurance company to call me, email me, and request action on their behalf. The staff did give great care to my pups though the money and time taken from me will lead me to not return. Rather than accept that their practice makes its' own choices they instead try to gaslight customers about their own available coverage at other pet care centers In addition to not honoring their initial commitment, this practice called me today 06/25 to lie about our initial encounters and threaten me verbally. Please avoid this place of business that treats new customers this way. read more

Dr. Lavell cares deeply for her pet clients. I was in a panic and brought in my very sick baby, and she went straight into savior mode to help my girl. We have been seeing her for over 20 years, but what she did for us this last month was above and beyond. I am grateful for her knowledge and expertise, and know she helped Isis in every way possible. This place may be nestled in between a couple of businesses in a small strip center, but this is seriously the best vet I've taken my dog too! The best vet I've ever had! DO NOT USE THIS HORRIBLE PLACE. Only person here with common sense is Nicole the receptionist. Worst experience I have ever had in customer service EVER. I scheduled a grooming service for my 7 month golden doodle and after picking her up and taking her home noticed that she was buzzed in her butt area. No one told me anything and I had to call back to explain my unsatisfying experience. Her ears were also not cleaned. After giving this establishment 24 hours to see how they would rectify my bad experience, I was basically told by the office manager, Terrell that they can not punish the groomer because she is a third party but he understands if I don't want to do business with them anymore. No understanding whatsoever of my frustrations. The "vet" katrin Lavell laughed at me as she was trying to explain to me why it was acceptable that my daughter was buzzed on her butt because in her ancient method of veterinary experience that if the hair is matted that the obvious solution is to buzz it all the way down to skin. My puppy was also matted on her chest and back but she wasn't buzzed down to skin. There were multiple areas under her tail that she was buzzed. And again none of this was told to me. I had to uncover it myself after already taking her home and this establishment had no care, concern, or empathy for the experience me and my puppy went through. Then the "vet" came out to explain that well her ears weren't that dirty and that buzzing is normal after I explained to her again this is my first time needing this type of service, she looked at her receptionist and chuckled and said well that's why her ears werent cleaned cause you didn't choose to pluck her ear hairs. I said I didn't know I had to. I explained to the receptionist present when I dropped my puppy off, why did she not explain what all was included? Very unprofessional and so arrogant as to if they lost any business. Negative 5 starts. Worst human beings ever and should never be allowed to work with the public, let alone your loved ones. This "vets" certification is questionable and it is clearly in the wrong profession if someone is expressing their concerns and get mansplained and laughed at. After spending hundreds of dollars in veterinary services at this establishment this is the treatment I was given. Hope you shut down soon so no one else has to go through this awful experience. After calling back to get the name of the vet, the other receptionist present there today told me that I'm no longer a client so I can look the information up online. Crap service. read more

Dr. Lavell and her staff are the best!! They always treat my dog with the most love and I am always more than satisfied when I leave.

The staff does not communicate with each other. I was told I could get my dogs prescription but when I called to see if it was ready I was met with rudeness and told I could not get it. Very unprofessional staff and the manager Chelsea used profanity I do not recommend this business unless you want to be yelled at and told many different things. So unprofessional. read more

I have been taking my dog here for over 15 years. Dr. Lavell is a very knowledgeable and compassionate doctor. Her passion is truly with animals! I can't imagine going anywhere else for my dog's needs. In fact, I don't live near her office, but gladly make the trip because of the level of care she and her staff devote to the animals. The staff is dedicated and friendly. My sweet dog had several health issues over the years and Dr. Lavell was always helpful in taking the time to explain treatment options and what to expect with my dog's care. I have been coming to Dr Lavell for 10 years and have nothing but glowing things to say about Dr Kat and her staff. They always take the best care of my babies and I like how she is down to earth, shoots straight so to speak. They are like the best country vet with service and care, but in the city. I took my 1 year old male cat to get his second round of shots along with an exam a couple of weeks ago. My kitty had a small spot on his back that was sore and the vet informed me to bring My cat back if he kept licking or opening the spot. It got better because of the steroid shot they gave him with the exam. I just called after a week and a half after the appointment because my cat keeps licking the area now and opening it up and I do not want it to get worse. I called back to have the extremely rude receptionist/ "manager"Katie tell me i would have to pay for ANOTHER exam along with the steroid shot for my cat even though the vet told me otherwise and in 2 weeks at that. She also would not allow me to talk to anyone else and had a power trip and talked in a really rude tone like she has in person.The vets and vet techs are all extremely helpful and wonderful. They'll help explain and break down pricing for you, but the person at the front desk is not helpful and will try to charge you unnecessarily. read more

I recently took my dog here for boarding (1 week). Upon my return I tried questioning him about his experience there while I was gone. Unfortunatly he was rather tight lipped about his stay. Not sure what to make of that, so I'll rate this venue based on price and customer service to me. The staff was very friendly and made sure to check our vacination records. However, prices were a little higher than I am used to paying (once all the extra services are added in), but then again my taciturn dog is worth it! read more

This is the local spot I take my dog, Smoky, to whenever I leave town. There isn't dog to dog interaction but has failed a few places temperament tests. He is an adopted stray who has anxiety issues and social problems, so this place works for us. They walk Jim daily and give him 1:1 play time. They are extremely affordable and right down the road. We have been going to this clinic for 11 years with our current dog and 15 years with our former dog (when it was Pets-Are-People-Too). When trying to make an appointment for my dog's chronic severe itching yesterday, I was rudely told they could not see her until this afternoon at 4:30 for which I made an appointment. I take care of my husband who has terminal cancer and my invalid 95-year-old mother-in-law so at times I have to be somewhat flexible with my time. I called their office at 3:45 p.m. today asking if I could be a little late for the appointment as my mother-in-law was running late from another appointment, and was told that I would have to reschedule. They ended up hanging up on me after I continued to question them explaining that I always have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or more any time we have an appointment. When I arrived at 4:10 at their office, they had my "walking papers" ready when I walked in. I was ready to fire them anyway because, in addition to their very long wait times, they always overcharge for their services as compared to other vets. I am glad they can afford to get rid of patients such as us. Good riddance. I already have another vet appointment. read more

I brought my new kitten and my dog when I moved from Los Angeles, The vets here are amazing. The staff is so nice and helpful and kind. I had my kitten neutered and he seemed to not be bothered. He recently boarded there while I went back to LA to move and they all spoiled him to death. I recommend this vet 150%! it's worth every penny I spent to know my baby was loved while I was gone. read more

The People's Pet has phenomenal staff and a warm and welcoming environment! I moved all my pets under Dr. Lavell"s care after making an emergency visit there with my cat who had been attacked by my neighbors dog. It was the closest vet clinic to us and although I had never been there before, Dr. Lavell took our cat back and immediately tried extraordinary measures to save him. Although she was unable to revive him, Dr. Lavell was so compassionate with my two young children and me that I transferred all our pets to her clinic the following day and have been with her ever since which has been over ten years now. I can't say enough wonderful things about her and her staff--we have trusted them with many of our family pets and have always trusted the care and advice received! read more

I brought my dog in first thing in the morning because she had been wheezing. She is a known patient to the practice, an indoor dog with no other pets. The receptionist was rude and did not ask why I was coming in, only that there were no appointments. She did not ask about why I had come in at 8am regarding my pet. The veterinarian called me back to tell me her protocol about not seeing dogs with upper respiratory infections, however, she also did not ask me what was wrong with my dog; she assumed it had some sort of infection or kennel cough. I went to another vet, who told me within 10 minutes that my dog (that interacts with no other animals) has allergies. Adult Benadryl was the answer. This practice has no concerns about its own patients. I now have a new veterinarian. read more

I had used this Vet for years and have mixed results - so I have been weening my pets away. One staff member was so arrogant every communication years ago, I just finally had to say something to Dr. Lavell. When I had to have my beloved dog euthanized, they said they would give him a light sedative. He was so sedated, he did not give me eye contact and was completely limp. Three people carried him in. It was my last moments with him and they took that from me. This week I had a foster die. He was treated at The Village Vet in Decatur. The Rescue said they would have my other dogs checked for worms, as they found a worm in my sweet foster senior who passed. When one of my dogs voided, we saw a worm. We bagged it along with our other dogs void and rushed it to the Peoples Pet because of how close - and we have two pets still there. They send their pathology out. The results came back no worms. BUT WE SAW AND SENT THEM A WORM. I paid for two fecals and the hounded me for the 3rd payment which I paid. I said what is your explanation that the results are not valid? She had no answer - just wanted that third payment. Dr. Lavell called me the day before and dismissed the flea preventative I was using. I had never had fleas in 16 years - and she elaborated my forth coming flea infestation which will not happen. Fleas are bad this year. We have a handle on it. She had no explanation for pathology coming up negative - did not offer to run it again. Just said she could give my one dog (not the one we saw the worm) a dewormer. Pathology is critical. We gave them a void with a worm. I want identified what the worm was. If they send the tests out - did they sit out to long, aren't they concerned about the results? No offer to rerun the tests. Just wanted the last 45.00 for invalid results. read more
