The food is delicious! I had miso salmon and enjoyed the perfect balance of flavors as well as the melt-in-your-mouth salmon. Do yourself a favor and order a side of French bread. Best bread I've ever had. Thin and crispy crust and warm pillowy inside. Service was attentive and responsive. I wish there was a dress code. To me, fine dining is an elevated shared experience. Patrons wearing flip flops and shorts takes something away from that experience. Definitely will be returning. read more

We went for Thanksgiving and we were in the first seating. Wow. The food was top notch, real fine dining in Charlotte County. The service and an unlike you'll find anywhere else in the county. The food was excellent. The bread, both options were stellar, I know it's bread, get it, they'll charge you for it, you'll understand. The drinks, wonderful produced by a rather crafty bar. The kitchen did not disappoint either. The venison is almost too good to be true. Unlike any other meat we ever had. He eat beef tenderloin about once a week. The traditional dinner was very good and the portion was huge.The chef is very particular about ingredients and that shows up on the plate. For that matter, all portions are big. Top to bottom, it is expensive, but I have paid more for way less. You can drop $200 at prime steak, for crying out loud, and not have an experience that is even close. I have been to Perfect Caper a few times. I felt very comfortable recommending it to close friends to celebrate a special occasion. Unfortunately they were happy with the food, except for all the added charges and the service was terrible. They called and the manager stated that due to rising prices in food they have to charge extra things that are given to you, like olive oil for the bread, if you want more. The server kept leaving the table while trying to take the order because she was continually being summoned to the kitchen, very annoying. Finish what your doing, like in the middle of an order. The manager said the policy is drop everything you're doing to go to yhe kitchen This is customer service? Now the customers are last on list of job responsibilities. Today I had the skimpiest Cobb salad I've ever had in my life. The plate was mostly shredded iceberg lettuce. There were three cherry tomatoes cut in half half of an egg cut in four pieces four pieces of avocado and some blue cheese. The salad had no flavor since it wasn't properly dressed. And there are a few bacon bits. This came with a half of a chicken breast. After lunch, I was still starving. I would suggest that you charge a couple of dollars more and actually put some food on the plate. read more

We started out with 'A Warm Goat' & Crispy Shrimp appetizers (4 of us). For dinner, the special fish of the day was Tile Fish, 3 of us ordered the Tile Fish and it was so clean and fresh tasting (it's a white fleshed fish caught in very deep waters), if you're at a restaurant and their fish of the day is Tile Fish, order it! The 4th person ordered Momma's Chicken; he was a bit disappointed in the fact that it was pretty dry. For dessert, we had after dinner drinks and a chocolate mousse with raspberry coulis (yummy). There were several people that worked there that came by our table to talk and see how everything was. Even the bartender came by as I ordered Grand Marnier over chipped ice, she laughed and said she tried her hardest to chip the ice, but it's not something they normally have. We discovered a treasure last night. Hunting for a good foodie place for a special occasion, The Perfect Caper was suggested and we headed down the coast to Punta Gorda. The setting is a wow. Elegant without being pretentious. Our waiter, Eric, couldn't have been more attentive and knowledgeable. Fell in love with the cucumber martini and should have had only one. The "pig and fig" entree was perfect and generous. The ultimate compliment was - no room for dessert! Next time. And there will definitely be a next time. read more

if I could give 0 I would. my experience was awful. the manager was very rude and unprofessional. I told my server that I wanted my lamb medium rare and no green beans, I wanted the mushrooms instead. my lamb was dripping blood and the green beans were in my plate. I told him that I didn't want green beans and asked him where were my mushroom. he told me he will bring a plate so I can remove the green beans myself and that he would bring the mushrooms. He took the lamb back. I didn't touch my food at all. I told him I didn't want it and he br the manage, he asked me if I wanted something else and I said no, I want my check so I can leave. He told me I need it to eat my food and that he was gonna charge me whether I eat it or not. I told him I didn't touch my plate, it was full of blood, he continued to tell me that I need it to eat or get something else or else he was going to call the cops. Very uncomfortable situation because I didn't even try anything on that plate. I was so frustrated cuz I was celebrating tha I bought my house and went there with my uncle who got chicken Alfredo. I was arguing with the Argentinian manager and I started crying because he was so unfair. My uncle ended up paying $198 I didn't eat and didn't take the food with me. So I just gave those people money for nothing. Just a very sad night that supposed to be a happy one. I owned a sandwich shop back in Canada and I would never do that to a customer. That place sucks and I hope karma will come back to them. They need to guve a batter training to the server, mine was very young and obviously he doesn't know what he is doing cuz I will never tell a customer to remove anything from the plate right there on the table when the customer was very specific about not wanting the item. read more

Second time here - both times good not great. Had a decent old fashioned then a bottle of good beer / bottle as in no draft from this vaunted bar ? We started w the warm Goat app which is delish though could use a bit more than the kind of stingy four little 1/4 inch bread toasts to slather on that nice cheese and other toppings . We tried a special app of tuna tartar which was just kind of blah .nothing popped . Meh . We shared the crabby scallops and some mussels / frites . Having had the mussels and frites in many places including France and Belgium these were decidedly meh - especially the frites which were sadly under seasoned , barely warm and limpid . The curry w the mussels needed some curry . Meh . Crabby scallops dish delish . For nearly 70 bucks that's a good thing . A good not great spot w decent if somewhat perfunctory service . They should try adding some nice Capers to a dish sometimes as well. Ha. read more

My wife read several reviews about the Perfect Caper here on Yelp and concluded that this was a top flight eatery, and all in our little party looked forward to enjoying a great meal. Sadly, we were misled. Just for the record, I don't mind spending $100 a person for a great meal with great service. However , when you think you are about to enjoy a fine dining experience and discover major flaws in both the cuisine and the service , I can't help but walk away feeling cheated. And that was how I felt tonight - cheated. In this instance, neither service nor food was as advertised , and left all of us feeling very disappointed. Our waitress was oddly annoying. Her phrasing and crude attempts at humor at the table failed miserably. In one instance , I had picked up a wine menu from in front of my wife's seat and attempted to identify a particular wine for my wife. The waitress witnessing my action, literally ripped the menu from my hands , proclaiming loudly that I had my own menu , and demonstrated to me how the wine list was printed on the back of the menu. I think she thought this act would somehow entertain us, but I found it to be incredibly rude. Forgive me, I'm totally forgetting about the food, which isn't difficult since not much of it was memorable. My wife ordered a chopped salad with a duck breast on the side. Both were rated as a shrug , or possibly a shrug minus, the duck in particular was not good quality , nor cooked with any great finesse. I should add that the waitress hit the order wrong and brought my wife the duck breast with frites instead of the single duck breast. When my wife pointed out her mistake, the waitress shoved the menu back into my wife's face and demanded that she identify the correct item on the menu. Obviously, my wife knew the menu better than the server and pointed out the sole duck breast she had ordered. After five minutes , the correct duck breast arrived on a small plate. My wife commented that it appeared all that had occurred was they slid the breast off the larger plate on to the smaller one. They were supposed to be different preparations , but at this point , we chose not to take up the battle. My wife took two bites of the duck and put her fork down on the plate. The duck left a lingering liver taste in the mouth. Not what you want from a duck breast. I selected a pork chop for myself. I made the mistake of engaging with the waitress on this subject of temperature when ordering. She asked me what temperature I would like on the chop , to which I responded medium,no pink I added. What's that ? medium well maybe? At any rate she questioned my choice of temperature to which I elaborated , pointing out that the decision was in part based on a desire to avoid trichinosis. The waitress was offended by this comment quickly quipping to me "these are not grocery store pork chops!" . I suppose At $44 for one sad chop , I am to assume it was from a a very special pig. The chop arrived straddling a pile of sautéed kale , which carelessly had been prepared leaving the woody stems in place along with the soft edible leaves. The chop was buried beneath a blanket of fresh strawberries and a heavy glaze which evolved into a thin brown sauce on the plate. I thought the sauce was passable, but my wife found it to have a very bitter finish. More importantly, the chop was just terrible. It was very tough and appeared to have been steamed rather than grilled. I literally sent it back, it was that bad. I think this was maybe the second time in my life I've ever sent a plate back. The faux gras was overcooked and buried beneath a thick slice of bacon. Instead of tasting like butter and melting on your tongue, this rendition recalled something akin to liverwurst , really sad. This was followed by a duck dish , which was supplied with a roasted duck breast and duck confit. The duck confit , traditionally legs and thighs slowly poached in duck fat for hours at a very low temperature , could not have been further from this definition. What appeared on the plate was a duck leg that had been deep fried. The skin had a hard crust on it 1/4" thick. I'm use to this fare when I buy a Turkey leg at the local rodeo , but was shocked to see this presented on a sparkling white plate and pretending to be duck confit. Upon reflection , all three of us agreed that this was very likely the worst meal we had experienced all year. Maybe we just got them on a bad night, honestly, I'll never know, once was enough. read more

I will absolutely be back every time I visit PGI My friend Michelle also asked me to pass along the following review: The Perfect Caper has been one of my favorite restaurants for the past 15 years, as I think their food and service equals even the best restaurants back in Boston. Recently, the staff's kindness went so far above and beyond the norm that I felt compelled to write about it. I brought my parents in on a Sunday night in the height of season, knowing that the restaurant was fully booked for the night but hoping to get seating at the bar. My father who is 95 and uses a walker had to stop to rest as we walked towards the bar. A staff member immediately came up and offered us the table that my Dad had sat down at, which clearly had a reserved sign on it. I told them it wasn't necessary but they insisted saying that they could move a few parties around and it wouldn't be a problem. A little while later while we waited for our food, the bar tender Kelvin who was serving us noticed that my Dad was cold, he got him a pillow and a shawl to put around his shoulders. Kelvin repeatedly came back to the table to ensure that my Dad was comfortable and the food and wine were wonderful as always. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. read more

Wow wow wow...dinner with two great friends and such a night. I had the Warm Goat Appetizer and it was phenomenal. Google the menu for details. I then moved onto the main course of Pig and Fig and Zach, our server was right, it was a perfect selection. My mates had the mushroom appetizer and the faux gras and raved about them. Next came their crab cake and the duck entrees. Fabulous! Pre-dinner cocktails were spectacular as were my Dirty Belvedere Martinis. Uber and Lyft crapped out and the service team was so concerned they assisted with securing transportation for us! Thank you all so much. Above and beyond for sure. Cannot for the life of me understand what has happened to the Petfect Capet. It used to be so friendly and accommodating. we just had the very unpleasant experience of being asked to leave and not return. Something is very strange going on there. We have been dining there for at least 4 to 5 times per year for at least 6 years. The manager is horrible and extremely unpleasant. It is a shame to see this happen. The nice quiet place snowbirds went home. I stopped by for a meal, set the bar and have some good conversation with some customers. I was there alone. Order a nice bottle of wine. No appetizers. I ordered a wheelchop. It came with a little pasta. A nice sauce with some and wood mushrooms was okay but I expected a green vegetable in the plate. I ordered a jumbo lump crab cake to come with it. I didn't see no jumbo meat in it. It may have had it which was broken up but you had to look for it. Now the crab cake was tasty but a hard time looking for all the crab me for 36 for one crab cake. It was delicious but definitely needs more crab meat so the real chat wasn't so big. This was okay. I ordered a second crab cake since it really whole wasn't a whole lot of food I had to ask for bread which in Italian always gets bread when there's pasta on his plate bottle, wine crab cake bottle, water 226 for me plus tip a little overpriced. Not enough crab meat in the meal will chop was good. Crab cake was good but you're not getting a lot of value. Just saying you want a great field shop. Go to Michael's on East in Sarasota pasta. Anybody can make homemade pasta. I've been making it since I've been 10 crab cake. I probably won't order again. It was good at a good sauce. They have good sous chef but $72 for two mediocre crab cakes. I'm sorry I'm looking for that jumbo lump crab meat. They should stick a couple pieces in the cake so the customer can see it. That's just a come on so you order it. I was not impressed with the crab cake. One order them again. It'll be another year before I go back so no big deal. read more
