It's just always the best, consistently excellent. The plates are beautifully prepared and nothing has ever disappointed. The staff is outstanding. It's almost impossible to get into during season, and sometimes out of season so make your reservations at least 2 weeks in advance, or plan to eat late if you get lucky. You will never be rushed at The Caper and never forgotten. The bar is small but you can eat there too... always worth a try. Bartender gets our drinks right every time too! Punta Gorda is very fortunate to have a restaurant of this caliber. Don't be daunted by it's location- which seems strange for a 5 star restaurant. It is not a large restaurant, booths and tables, and you can easily have a conversation which isn't always the case in a smallish restaurant. This restaurant is a joke. Had lunch today with a friend and we both had the cob salad which consisted of shredded lettuce in a vinegrette dressing, one small cherry tomato and nothing else. The drinks and food were top notch, but I expected that and was not disappointed. The small things are what separate the truly good from the expected. We dined here on June 17th for a pre-father's day dinner. There were 7 of us in the family. Our reservation was for 530pm. We arrived 30 minutes early, and we were seated. Before everyone was even seated at the table, the hostess was informing us that there was an 8pm reservation, and we needed to be finished by then. Stunned, I just looked at her. I couldn't even respond. She repeated it again, and I looked away. The rest of my family was seated, and we proceeded with our family meal. Our server was Doug, and he was just outstanding. He was very attentive, and we never once had to look around for him. He was perfect, and we were very happy with him. Our food was amazing, and almost everything was eaten. Doug did not rush us, and the appetizers were nicely spaced from the main meal. We also had coffee and dessert, which was amazing as well! We were finished and paid our bill at 731pm. Had it been closer to 8pm, I would have sat there, but I was not willing to sit 30 minutes at the table just to prove a point. On the way out, I stopped and I spoke with the hostess. I let her know that I did not think it was right or "cool" that she informed us that we needed be finished with our meal by 8pm. Her response "we have to honor our reservations". Again, stunned, I informed her "WE had a reservation, we were 30 minutes early, the entire party was not even seated and you were already telling us that we needed to leave by 8pm. It was not a cool thing to do". She never apologized. Just smiled. For this reason, I will not give this restaurant my patronage, or my $700, again. read more

This place is a hidden on the backside of a plain Jane of a business building , but man this restaurant is top notch. The owner / chef is a 7 time James beard award winner, and happen to be cooking that night me and my companion where there for dinner. The wait staff was very professional, always checking on us. The specials where out of this world my companion had the venison, which was cook perfect and was so tender and delicious. I had the crabby scallops with coconut black rice, again out of this world. Relax. The pandemic is in a lull and so are the mask restrictions here. Went on a Wed night and found it to be relatively crowded. You can check for yourself by looking at the on-line reservation system. The four of us had an excellent dinner. The pork chop, salmon and crab cake were very good. The server was attentive and very friendly. The prices were high as we expected. If you are looking for a high-energy, noisy, casual restaurant with all the usual entrees, PC may not be for you. I will say I can't review this place without recommending the pork belly taco appetizer as they are bar none the best around. From there, the choices are up to you...as the land and sea options truly delight, are truly delicious, and come in ample sized portions...and even though it's hard to save room for dessert, I'd recommend trying or at least sharing something with the table. All in all, this place is darn near...well...perfect...and is a terrific, nice night out or date night kind of place...and the little chocolate-peanut butter thingeys they give you with the bill at the end are the perfect finish.
