I am considering scheduling the initial learning session prior to work. How much time do you allot for that first introductory session?

Somehow…read moremanagement thought it would be ok to have someone use BLEACH IN ITS POWDER (A CAUSTIC CHEMICAL) to scrub the BLACK MOLD from the side of the pool INTO THE POOL WHILE PEOPLE WERE STILL SWIMMING INSIDE!!!! This was the last straw. So much poor management I've witnessed throughout my time, especially with the pool. The water is always milky and has an overpowering scent of chlorine which leads me to suspect the pH is very off and they don't properly check and maintain pool cleanliness. They had their cleaning people use strong chemicals to clean the pool deck and windows during open hours. Random times they would shut down the pool without any prior notice via email or postings or otherwise. Lockers rooms always stank. This is not the case at other gyms I've been to. The premier memberships options like the recovery room and towel service were subpar compared to other Onelife facilities. Many times the hydromassage beds were not working and the red light recovery room's ambient temperature was way too hot. They should be offering eye protection for the red light like other facilities instead of just having a sign that says 'use at your own risk.' Plus one of the coat racks in the red light room is chipped and has an exposed nail that had been that way since they opened it (for months now). Their towels are tiny and would only cover the body of a child and are super rough like they overstarched them. Not to mention there were times where the towels ran out and when I asked a staff member about it, they just said that I'll just have to wait. Didn't bother to check if the dryer has clean towels, which it did when I asked a manager.

When I enrolled in December the front desk officer who was enrolling me told me that if I wanted to cancel my membership I was free to at no cost to me. Well I've been sick with bronchitis for the last three months and will be going to Europe to visit family during the summer. Onelife has a million reasons why I could just not cancel and said they would need to bill 137.00 to cancel. I cannot rate this gym since they do not stick with their advertising pitch of easy to cancel without any penalties.

The bathrooms and locker rooms are well-designed and clean, and the co-ed sauna and steam room are a major plus. The filtered water stations are always cold and well-maintained, and the smoothie bar is convenient. The reception staff are always friendly! SweatBox is intense, well-structured, and thoughtfully run. The music and variety keep me coming back. Providing ear plugs and cold eucalyptus towels are the many small touches that go a long way during this high-energy HIIT workout. Coach Gwen and Coach Mike are excellent instructors -- clear, motivating, and attentive to form. There are 3 other class studios and dozens of more fitness classes. I have enjoyed the yoga classes, especially Restorative and Deep Stretch. Chris also runs a great BodyPump class -- strong pacing and consistent energy. Overall, VIDA Ballston combines diverse programming with quality facilities and good service. Yes things break or require maintenance, but the team is constantly communicating this and working to upkeep their facility. Highly recommend!

Steven has helped me understand exercise techniques that I never could've figured out by myself. He knows exactly what I need to do to see improvement and isn't afraid to challenge me. All the trainers are awesome. Amber and McKenzie are so knowledgeable and helpful. Even though they aren't my trainers, they're very engaging, fun to be around, supportive, and are a part of my fitness journey. Steven has a great attitude and impeccable customer service. I'm glad I chose Foundation Fitness because I don't think I'd be as committed to working out if I didn't start here. A welcoming, challenging (but not in a scary way), fun, focused, and collaborative environment have been key to my success so far. Whether you're an exercise newbie or serious bodybuilder these capable trainers will help you achieve your goals and set new ones. Bonus: all the clients I've met are really cool too. Lastly, an honorable mention to Angelo (now at a different location): he's a great trainer, kind person, and very knowledgeable. COME TRY FOUNDATION FITNESS!!!

I. LOVE. THIS. GYM. If you're thinking about starting (or re-starting) an exercise program,…read moreFoundation Fitness is *life-changing*. There is a reason why their reviews are extraordinary; no matter where you are in your fitness journey, no gym has more heart or cares more. I've struggled with diet and exercise my whole life; my weight has fluctuated an embarrassing amount. When I first joined, I got winded climbing a flight of stairs. I was so deeply unhappy, and so ashamed of my fitness level that the whole prospect of setting foot in a gym was intimidating. I hated the thought of joining one of those large chain-gyms; I knew I needed more accountability. But Foundation Fitness is a small, community-oriented fitness center with a SPECTACULAR, non-judgmental team that will push and inspire you. Each of their trainers offers their own arena of expertise - Collin is exceptional in mobility and functional fitness, Amber will give you the best HIIT workout of your life, Angelo builds award-winning power-lifters, and Steven is a *phenomenal* weight-lifting/body sculpting coach. Whenever I show up, I feel welcomed, seen, and encouraged. (It's sort of like my inner high school nerd is hanging out with all the jocks, and they're being really nice to me??) The environment is always fun, even during the most grueling workouts. Some days we'll listen to 70s rock music, other times it might be DJ mixes or top hits. I've never met another gym-goer I didn't like; everyone is great. The aspect I love the very most about this gym is that I see clients of every age, body type, race, ethnicity, and ability; Foundation Fitness doesn't just preach community - they live it. Each of the trainers is friendly and fun, but also a consummate professional. The level of engagement and attentiveness I receive during my workouts is unsurpassed by any trainer I've ever had before, and I can see and feel the results. The trainers help build the foundation and give you the tools to continue your fitness outside of the gym. Nutrition coaching is included, as is an app you can link to MyFitnessPal, Apple Watch, Garmin, etc. I'll add that I did some price shopping in the area before I joined Foundation Fitness, and I found their rates to be extremely competitive, if not better than most. In terms of the facility itself, it's small - a couple of treadmills and other cardio machines, four separate rack stations, and all the standard training equipment (free weights, kettlebells, etc.). You're expected to arrive early and do at least 30 minutes of warm-up and stretching before your session. There isn't a locker room here (although there are bathrooms in the building), so this works best if you're able to shower/change at home. Also, the gym is intended for group or one-on-one training sessions; while you can technically show up and do cardio on your own, this isn't like standard gyms where you can just come and do weights whenever. If you're even considering joining a gym or working with a trainer, you won't find a better fit - I promise you. In about 3 months (with some hard work in and outside of the gym), I lost approx. 25 lbs and 10% of my body fat while building muscle. The compliments are nice, having clothes fit *so* much better is great, but nothing beats how I feel - happier, stronger, and hopeful. Joining Foundation First is one of the best things I've ever done for myself - ever.

If it was not for the personal trainer my wife uses, there is a strong possibility we would change to another gym. There are a decent number of machines, free weight stations, etc., but since the location opened (I think 2 years now?) I have not seen one new piece of equipment. Suggestions to management appear to go unnoticed. As for the free weights, they are often scattered amongst all of the machines or stations, and no one seems to ever clean them up. As for managers, I have not seen a single one last more than a month. That is if you can even find one. Currently I have been trying to convert my membership to Silver Sneakers. The front desk personnel say I need to speak with a manager. They also say that they have not seen the current manager for days. Maybe that is why there has been no toilet paper in the restrooms, the hand sanitizers by the front doors have been empty, and I can't make the transition. I did go to the main webpage for DC Gold's Gyms to use the Member Services link (as instructed by someone I spoke with and by the AI operator). What I loved was clicking on it and only getting a Cancel Membership screen. Not a great way to keep your members when the services is to ask for them to cancel. In addition, there is no other way to contact the main owners of these metro gyms on the web page. Are they tired of hearing from their members? Again, other than the lack of management, investment in keeping this gym interesting with new or changed equipment, the people that do work here are great, especially folks like Jay at the front desk and John the personal trainer (the best!). Hopefully this will get the attention of the owners.

I am a client of Gold's Gym and have been for several decades (my home Gym was Merrifield before it…read moreclosed last year, and Clarendon before that). Since then, I have been working out at the Bailey's Crossroads gym, four or five times a week, and I wanted to put in a few good words for the staff. Just this week, I attended one of Meagan's Silver Sneakers aerobics classes (which I used to take from her at Merifield). Meagan is a NATIONAL TREASURE when it comes to aerobics for seniors, and scores of regulars have migrated over from Merrifield and other parts of the DMV to continue taking her classes. In fact, we had so many people show up that Orlando and Bryce had to bring in extra chairs, and I think we ran out of six and three pound weights. Please consult Orlando for any materials needed for Meagan's classes because the satisfied customer base is definitely already there. Speaking of Orlando I wanted to express what a great job he is doing as GM. I have a birth injury to my left arm/shoulder which limits my mobility and strength significantly. While I was working out, Orlando noticed my disability, and asked me about it. Per his offer, I accepted a free personal training workout from Brett, who came recommended as a trauma recovery expert, and chose to continue having twice weekly workouts/therapy under Brett's supervision. My strength and added mobility is improving. In short, Gold's Gym/Bailey's is a terrific place to work out and I am proud to be a member.
