Hello. How long is the initial introductory session? I am trying to see if it would be feasible before work. Thank you.

Hello Taiia, we'd love to have you in! Our Introductory Session at the Burke Studio is 40mins long, and this is a great way to share your fitness goals with a certified personal trainer, so they can then build a workout that is tailored to you. When…

Small group weight training is top notch, with tailored workouts for to meet your physical (and arguably mental) health needs. Trainers are unbelievably competent and supportive! I have significant health concerns, and I truly believe that this gym is part of the reason I stay well. Also, they have really cultivated community, so I have become friendly with so many of the people who train alongside with me. This gym is a gift to yourself. I hope you check it out soon!

I've been a member of UA since Feb 2016. At the time, I was on the cusp on turning 50 (OK, so you…read moreall know my age now!) and I knew it was (past) time to get serious about my health/fitness. I had done exercise programs on and off (mostly off) over the years. I knew how important exercise was but I hated it. It was either boring, or it wasn't convenient, or it was hard to stay motivated. Today, I have never felt stronger or more confident. In fact, to my huge surprise, when my job was causing serious stress, all I could think was, "I NEED a workout today." I have never said that in my life! The coaches at UA are top-notch professionals. They take their work seriously, celebrate with you, and are encouraging. I look forward to seeing the coaches -- they are energetic, friendly, supportive, and have taught me a tremendous amount. This contributes greatly to me staying motivated to keep coming back and improving. Getting a new program each month also helps stave off the typical boredom of a "regular" gym. Something else that was unexpected but great nonetheless -- there is a wide variety among UA's members (age, gender, physical shape, natural ability, etc.). I am inspired by and feel comfortable around my fellow UA-ers b/c they each face their own challenges. I highly recommend you give UA a shot. (The also have a location in Sterling, VA.)

I walk in and see a huge part of the place "under construction." Keep in mind I have a fractured elbow and other injuries, and the only way for me to train abs right now is with an ab machine which is locked away in a room labeled "under construction." Why can't you just move the only ab machine out of that room and put it in the main area? Is it too heavy? Does it not have wheels? I genuinely don't get it. And every time you walk in, something is always out of service. The Smith machine has been broken since August and it's now the end of the semester. All this money, and the only thing they can do is tell you "you can't do this, you can't do that." At this point I'm seriously considering getting a membership at a private gym. I can't stand this place anymore. If you go to GMU or plan to, seriously consider the fact that the fitness facilities, not just the Aquatic Center, offer horrible service with pointless "safety" rules and regulations that make everyone's life harder. Hope this helps.

For CrossFit specifically, the energy is great, and you get to learn how to do the movements correctly, but at times (mainly when I first started), I've felt a bit judged and lost. It really depends on the instructor and the time you go. Hyrox, on the other hand, is great since you're usually in groups, which makes it feel more structured and supportive. All of the peak instructors I've had have been really friendly and motivating! The owner is also very welcoming and encourages bringing friends, offering a free trial class so you can see if it's a good fit. *Workouts: Classes usually have about 10-25 people, and you can go at your own pace. I typically go 4-6 times a week, switching up which classes I take. When I first started, the workouts felt tough, but over time, they've become much more manageable (results, yay!). Personally, I'm one of the most unmotivated people when working out alone, and they do a great job of encouraging you to show up at least once a week. The classes are a mix of bodyweight exercises, weights, and cardio, so there's always variety. *Pricing: I pay $159 a month for unlimited classes (~$6.65 a class if you go 6 days a week), which also includes 24/7 access and amenities like massage chairs and saunas. When I first started, I was on the $99 plan for two classes a week, which is a good option if you're not ready to commit fully. *Overall Thoughts: Halo Fitness is a great option for anyone looking for that little extra push. If you're new to CrossFit and have the time, I'd HIGHLY recommend going a bit early and asking questions so you don't injure yourself and don't feel so lost walking around, wondering what you need for the workout and which stations aren't taken.

Super Value, Well Equipped…read more I've been a member of this World Gym for a number of years, and I am a satisfied client. The gym is an inexpensive place to do your stretching, lifting, aerobics (and like many people, play with their mobile phones!). It has so many different pieces of exercise equipment and the equipment is normally operable. Only on rare occasion a piece might be broken waiting for repairs. Clients have to decide if they want to pay for "fancy" impressive frills or a real place to exercise. World Gym has friendly staff at the check-in desk, and they almost always greet you, coming or going. Staff isn't usually "in your face" on the floor checking on you or the equipment; if you need that, hire a trainer or go to a different gym. I like the TV sets positioned near the treadmills and aerobic machines. The locker rooms are adequate and clutter free. The plentiful mirrors are kept clean. World Gym has never raised the fees, and is clear on what you are paying. There are no hidden costs. Just a few minor dings: 1. too many TV's set to Fox "Entertainment" which some people refer to as News. 2. The cleaning solution stations now have paper towels, not cloths. I prefer cloths. 3. I have difficulty finding out if the gym is open during inclement weather. Their online sites are not kept up. Otherwise, I am thankful to have this clean, well-stocked place to keep fit.
