I drive out of my way to visit this ultra-friendly pet store with knowledgeable staff. The store is clean and the animals are well cared for. I have never had an issue with a sick animal or poor quality here. Because I buy aquatic animals, and don't have the space to quarantine, I need to know that what I am bringing home will be healthy and not spread disease to the rest of their new tank mates. I find that the employees here know what they are talking about when it comes to aquariums. Whether it's animals, plants, or set ups, there is always someone who can answer my questions. They also are very generous in the giving of their time. I brought in 3 water samples to compare two tanks and my straight from the tap water. This can be a time consuming process, but they took the time to help me right away and helped me compare the samples, discussing the set ups and variables. The prices are higher than big chain stores, but lower than some of the other specialty shops I frequent. I would say the extra cost is worth the higher quality. read more

The Pet Works - Pet Stores Near Me - Longview, Washington

I was very disappointed with the bearded dragon set up they had at their Longview location. I understand you can't have super high expectations when it comes to any pet store and their reptile care but I expected better from a small locally owned store. They had a tiny baby in the enclosure with over 100 crickets. The crickets ranged from large crickets to extra small. The poor baby was laying in the corner of the enclosure looking lethargic and about to die. Not to mention there is no veggies or salads for the dragon to eat or the crickets to eat so you see crickets hanging out all over the poor dragon, likely suffering constant bites from the huge crickets. It seems like they have been mindlessly dumping crickets into the enclosure without it checking in the hides and under surfaces for the mass of crickets hiding. It broke my heart looking at that poor baby. The enclosure is a good size thankfully with what seems to be okay lighting but they also have no gauges for measuring tanks conditions. I take my beardies health and environment so seriously so it deeply saddens me to see a pet store be negligent. read more

I started coming here just because the staff was so welcoming and nice. The last few times I have come in for stuff, I have been treated like I am an inconvenience and the particular staff member has been very rude as far as attitudes go. Pet Works is very knowledgeable on a wide variety of pet concerns and their staff is always the most helpful and friendly.

Although the staff was very friendly, I am sad to report that after deciding to get my lonely fish some companion fish, all of the fish I purchased were sick with ICK and all died within a week. Even after trying to treat our tank to get rid of the ICK it was too late. My lonely fish that I've had for two years is now a dead fish. Very sad!! Not to mention $40 wasted. read more

I have been coming here for years because of their wide selection and large knowledge base. Unlike the national pet store in town, the people here can help you with just about ANYTHING pet wise. Their prices are even less expensive! Also, unlike the other store, they do not put chemicals in their fish tanks to make their fish (like female guppies) falsely colored, shortening their lives and making them more likely to be sick. In a nutshell, with The Pet Works you have a wide selection, friendly staff who know what they are talking about and show a passion for their jobs, and healthy animals. As a grown-up, I'm not ashamed to admit that I go into The Pet Works during my lunch break just to look at the animals. And what a great asset to downtown Longview. This place is admittedly a bit pricier than its corporate competitors, but so much more charming. A trip here is well worth the extra 50 cents for your dog toy. Unlike Petco (where I no longer shop due to ongoing issues with employee attitude), the staff here has never been rude or disinterested, and they always take the time to give personal service. I really like this place and the people, and appreciate the helpful advice they've given me, which dramatically improved my pet's health. Several of my dogs have had issues related to food allergies, and Pet Works staff worked with me to pinpoint and eliminate the problems, which turned out to be both the grain and the eggs in their old brands of food. The recommendations on diet have worked out so well that all of the dogs are now in the best shape of their lives, and they absolutely love the food. This place is street parking only, but the building is over a hundred years old and the floors are still original. That is not something you see every day. I spent the first five minutes I was in this shop just admiring the quality and structure of materials used and design of this building. I think I amused the store proprietor. Once I got over my initial admiration, I asked her about foods and treats for dogs with multiple food intolerance. My little rescue has a bad reaction to all fowl (even when I used plain, organic, unseasoned...cooked it myself turkey or chicken), white potato, gluten, and dairy. If that wasn't enough, any foods much over four percent fiber cause an internal evacuation management failure. She was more than happy to help me and very understanding. She was very knowledgeable about high quality food brands and it's clear she continues to keep up to date. She introduced me to a food brand I hadn't heard of and am happy to say my rescue putz did well on. The store is well stocked on a variety of toys and paraphernalia related to pets, at prices competitive to the big chains. They have some of the same foods you'll find at those chains, but several, higher quality foods and snacks you will not find at those chains. What you will also find here, is genuine warmth and desire to take care of you and your pet needs. read more
