To preface, my 7 year old Basenji, Chewy, is highly skittish and an inherently nervous Nellie. When I adopted him 4 years ago, he obviously had had bad experiences with grooming services and pet stores, scurrying away from the mere site of a Petco storefront. Similarly, it was very apparent he has had bad experiences with people touching his paws, perhaps from painful trimming or buffing experiences in the past, thus getting him to stay still while getting his mani/pedi is a nigh impossible task. But, the grooming staff at this Petco did a wonderful job in making sure my dog got his nails buffed to satisfaction while keeping a handle on my rowdy pup. I was really surprised at how calm he was after he was handed back to me - now, if the groomers hadn't told me that he was a bit rowdy, I never would have guessed it. It seemed that Chewy and her got along quite well. Which, in my opinion, takes a true pro to accomplish so fast. Kudos. While Chewy was getting his mani/pedi, I wandered the store looking for topical treatments to a little flea problem my poor pup was having. The staff were very helpful in answering questions and finding the best alternatives to the harsh pesticides otherwise known as "flea and tick treatments." They also kept me in the loop about the return policy in case the treatments didn't work. Lovely stuff. My furry friend's nails are trimmed despite his finicky disposition and the staff was quite helpful in aiding in my endeavors to find a natural flea medication (which, sadly, I have not been able to accomplish just yet).

Coming from the competitive dog sport world, and holding a degree in Cynology (the study of canines or domestic dogs), it seems Bart has been a passionate and lifelong student of the dog. Just google and see for yourself. Rather than "quick fixes", he dives deep to understand first and foremost, your dog. For example, understanding HOW your dog operates is fundamental to building a healthy relationship to him/her so that your dog does things WITH you (and not FOR you). This is the critical foundation which Bart builds upon in shaping the behavior of all the dogs he works with. It just makes sense. Since we brought our German Shepherd pup to him last year, we have watched his remarkable transformation around obedience to now protection work. And it hasn't just been him! I have learned so much through Bart's online resources, lectures, and important discussions. This has been so much fun. In summary, we have discovered in Bart, a rare combination of practical expertise, scientific understanding, and authentic compassion and advocacy for dogs. We cannot recommend him more!

Once a week got him on phone & told he would email or call...none of either. Phone won't accept voicemail, no response to text. There are 4 of us who compete in events listed on his website with two of us who have tried to nail him down for training, with being left feeling he has no interest. One has been trying for months. Having to go with somebody else to train with after well over reasonable amount of waiting with no attempt from Bart to return contact. Blows my mind how a trainer can just ignore multiple long term clients who are looking for somebody to train with closer to home. Will look at him again if he surfaces. But we have dogs in need and competitions upcoming and can"r afford to sit and wait to see if he surfaces. One of the group has already been with Scott Haywood w Centrailia Pet Resort, I'm going to sign up tomorrow as he has followed through with getting back, setting prices, and setting concrete schedules.

One week after getting a clean bill of health from the veterinarian, we boarded our 6 month old puppy for 10 days. The Dog Zone manager Jen called us for the first time on day number 9 of our vacation, to tell us that our puppy had not been eating for several days and was vomiting. Still confused on why no phone call was made to us on day one of our puppy not eating or on day one of vomiting! Jen was more concerned about someone coming to pick up our sick puppy to get her out of there, but gave absolutely no concern for our puppy hanging on to her life. I am assuming if she could get the puppy out of the building, then she cannot be held responsible for animal neglect. We were out of the country and insisted that our puppy be taken to a veterinarian immediately, rather than someone picking her up. I will say Jen did finally take our puppy half dead, to a veterinarian, which should have been done the first day of her showing signs of being sick. The veterinarian stated she was barley responsive ,had pale gums, low white blood cell count and low body temperature when she arrived. She was put on oxygen immediately, due to her inability to breathe on her own!! The Dog Zone Manager Jen only told us our puppy was not eating and had vomited. Jen said she did not even think that our puppy would need any overnight care at the veterinarian. We had our puppy transferred to an emergency veterinarian and we authorized aggressive treatment to save her life. She was diagnosed with pneumonia, from likely aspirating her own vomit. The veterinarian believed the pneumonia happened over sometime and not the same day the manager notified us. Even after aggressive treatment our puppy could not be saved and we could not even say goodbye to her because we were in another country. If we had been notified the first day our puppy was not eating we would have insisted she be taken to a veterinarian immediately. But, Jen is not the only individual at the business that was aware of my puppy barely hanging on to her life because my puppy had been in this severe medical condition for days!!!!! Where is the humanity and compassion for our furry family members OR are all of the employees at this company just wanting to get the "problem pet" out of the building, so they don't have to be held responsible for their pure malice. This boarding/ daycare may seem trustworthy but do not make the mistake we did by trusting them with your furry loved ones. Now our puppy will never see her first Christmas!

And when I see a dog being trained wrongfully, I automatically want to refer Woodlands to that owner, letting them know that they would excel if they used them. Thank you so much, Woodlands for the work you did for us and the work you do for others. Hard as I try, each dog seems to have "a thing" (e.g., jumping on people, leash aggression, guarding, barking, etc.). Two years ago I got a puppy and decided I didn't have it in me to go through months (and sometimes years) of training effort and end up with another dog with "a thing". I found Woodlands Dog Kingdom through word of mouth. Ayesha has a ton of experience with all kinds of dogs. She worked wonders with my sweet, little puppy but I have seen her successfully train stubborn, adult dogs with pretty big behavioral problems and am so impressed with her ability to adjust her training to meet a dog's needs and an owner's expectations. I sent her an obnoxious puppy and a few weeks later she returned an enthusiastic, but behaved young adult dog. Honestly, it was magical. In a few weeks time she accomplished more than I could have accomplished in years. There are a couple of lessons I learned that I really want to emphasize. First, she trained my puppy but didn't break her spirit. She is still an extremely loving, trusting and enthusiastic dog. Secondly, for the first time ever, I have a dog I can take everywhere. I guess I didn't realize how much richer/fuller a dog's life is when they can go everywhere. I instituted limits for my other dogs because of their "things". This dog has no limits because she doesn't have "a thing". I take her traveling with me. I can board her with no anxiety (for me or her). I can take her to a dog-friendly restaurant. I can take her off-leash at the beach/hiking and know with 100% certainly that she'll come when called. And, best of all, we can go on long walks in the neighborhood or even on busy thoroughfares and she stays in a perfect heel. Ayesha trained my puppy and then helped me learn easy ways to maintain her newly learned skills. Since our board-and-train, I have asked Ayesha for advice on specific/new behaviors and she is always very helpful. Finally, once she has trained a dog she will board them. My love of dogs AND love of travel are not conducive but boarding with Ayesha has liberated me. My dog loves going back to her place. Her boarding fees are very reasonable and the dogs are not crated for hours and hours. They have lots of outside play time and lots of human/cuddle time. I know there are a lot of board-and-train options but Woodland Dog Kingdom is the best!!

He called the next morning and provided an extremely long and detailed phone consultation on our very first phone call. His confidence in his knowledge and ability really brought some peace of mind and comfort in a time when I was a frantic mess. I went from thinking my dog could be anywhere in the world to realizing that he was very likely in the exact same place he had last been seen. Unfortunately that place was a MASSIVE industrial complex with thousands of hiding places. I went from sobbing in the car, too overwhelmed to move, to action-plan-oriented with concrete steps to put into motion. His method was counterintuitive to everything that came naturally. I wanted to tear that construction yard apart while calling Huxley, but he made it clear that not only was that a complete waste of energy, it would drive him deeper into hiding. I REALLY want to emphasize following Harry's instruction, even if it feels counterintuitive. I scoured the web for tips to find Huxley and nowhere did I find the information Harry provided that got our baby home. I was fully prepared to hire him and his dogs for their tracking services, but his consult alone provided me with the strategy to find Huxley. After Huxley was first spotted by a construction worker who had called my number from the flier, I had no idea what to do. My heart was pounding and I just wanted my dog back. I texted Harry and he called immediately with next steps, even sending me the Spanish translations to ask the workers to stop yelling and chasing. I truly believe that had I not contacted Mr. Oakes, we would not have our Huxley back home and safe. I can't recommend him more highly. Call him, fill out the questionnaire, trust the process.
