Our bond was truly special, and I will always be grateful that they brought her into my life. That said, I do have concerns about the health of the hedgehogs they sell. Hazelnut came home with rhinitis and severe diarrhea and needed antibiotics. I even asked if her completely liquid stool was normal (since I was such a newbie to hedgies and had no idea what was and wasn't normal) and was told "yes" by the store; which was very clearly not true... lol. Later in life, she developed a devastating neurological disease that eventually left her paralyzed and requiring around-the-clock care. I would do it all again for her without hesitation, but my experience truly taught me how important responsible breeding and lineage tracking are. Neurological diseases such as Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome have a suspected hereditary component. Because captive pet populations stem from limited bloodlines and can involve frequent inbreeding, a heritable predisposition remains a plausible explanation, especially since WHS has not been documented in wild African pygmy hedgehogs. For anyone considering a hedgehog, I would personally recommend going through a reputable breeder who can provide documented lineage, health records, and information showing the line is free of known neurological disease. These animals deserve to be bred responsibly, with their health and well-being coming before profit. No hedgehog should have to suffer because proper breeding practices and genetic health weren't prioritized.

Minus one star for the two lazy guys that work there. I went…read morein one day to get some seasoning because my dog had stopped eating his meals and I got no help. I asked how receptive dogs are to it, what online reviews have said about the Halo seasoning (the only one they had) - I was getting horrible cell service and couldn't look up the reviews myself, and trying to get any help out of them was like pulling teeth! I bought the seasoning which didn't help at all and then never came back. Now that it's -20 degrees in NY, Petopia is on my way home from work and with the closing of Petco, I had no choice but to drop in again. My experience was completely different this time. The sweet girl working that evening talked to me about my puppy's needs, his picky eating, the different brands of dog food, why vets recommend what they do, she gave me some free samples, and directed me to items on sale. I ended up coming back three days in a row to purchase more of her suggestions to give to my dog. The verdict just in case you were curious: Evangers wet food ended up being the only thing he'd eat after we sampled tons of other types including Blue, Science Diet, Natures Balance, Wellness, Weruvia, etc..

I highly recommend the dog training classes at the Yonker's Petsmart. My beagle just graduated from…read morethe beginner class. Chris Brown, the instructor, taught us both SO MUCH in these six classes. He's very patient (and funny) which made a huge difference. He let us learn at our own pace and would gently remind us of things we've covered over the weeks. I saw a big difference in my stress level (decreasing) while trying to do the homework and practicing our new skills. The classes covered commands, safety information and tips that only a life long dog owner could give you. we would also get one-on-one time as well as demonstrations and practice 'walks' around the store to see how our dogs did outside of the classroom. Chris really gave me back the confidence I needed to help my dog really know the commands, not just "know of" them...as he says. The class really covered so much territory in six one hour sessions. The price is very reasonable and I'm going to continue with the next two classes. Even if you've had your dog a while I highly recommend the classes. You will learn so much about caring for a dog...not just commands.

Shortages everywhere, food, toys, even the simple essentials were either picked over or missing entirely. Choices of doggie t-shirts were limited to large dogs, female styles, and doggie sweatshirts, all of the small sizes were gone. Nothing weather appropriate. Staff was polite enough, but no one seemed to know when or if items would be restocked. For such a big-name pet store in a busy Manhattan neighborhood, I expected a fuller selection and better inventory management. Ended up leaving with nothing, waste of time, gas and parking. A bit frustrating when you're trying to shop local instead of ordering online. However this is making me reconsider. Will have to go out of the way, travel downtown to the Petco Union Square store and hope they have better inventory.

Happy Yelping! Just not here.
