We were actually recommended to Mel's Spaw through another groomer, and they could not say enough wonderful things about Melanie! The positive recommendation made me feel really at ease, given the other place was rated really high and so was Mel's Spaw. As soon as we called Melanie she picked up right away with the most kind, friendly and outgoing personality. As soon as we mentioned we had a goldendoodle she was even more excited to get her hands on our dog Kash as she has goldendoodles herself. We set an appointment for a few days later where we got to meet Mel in person and she was just as delightful as she was on the phone. Her salon was super clean, had an open layout which I loved, and such cute decor. Talking to her was easy, and she asked questions that no one asked us prior, like about our preferred cadence of Kash's maintenance grooming schedule, which weighs into how long or short we planned to cut his hair: Shorter in length = can go longer between grooming Longer in length = shorter between grooming We showed her a specific cut we liked, just a puppy cut and described other things like cutting shorter around his mouth and chin, keeping his tail fluffy.. and she executed BEYOND our expectations! When we picked up our pup he was: 1. Obsessed with Mel 2. Looked PHENOMENAL! So handsome!! We were soooo happy with the entire process and service. *ALSO It's been 3 days since our grooming and our dog still smells amazing as when we picked him up from his appointment!! So happy to have found our groomer here in NJ. Before we left we booked a bath appointment and our next full grooming appointments, we are looking forward to coming back!

I picked up my all white dog after grooming with a large greyish black streak down his side. When I…read moreasked the staff what this was they said they thought it was a birthmark and took him to the back to remove it. Several minutes later the groomer came out and said they couldn't get the stain off of him. She informed me they were doing construction in the back and he was laying on the floor under it. The conversation got worse and worse from there. She told me "it was likely something from the air conditioner and she didn't know what it was but it definitely wasn't dangerous." She then casually said if they couldn't get it off I wouldn't have to pay for the grooming.... as if he was a sweater that got stained at the dry cleaner. They ended up giving him two more baths and getting most of it off with Dawn dish soap... which is what they use to take oil spills off of sea creatures. My dog was unsupervised, laying in construction chemicals and came out from his grooming stained. After all of that, they still charged me and barely apologized. I was a regular customer for several years and this was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Needless to say we have never been back.

I was nervous at first, but after a short trial run, we were both completely hooked! Now, at a year old, Simon has practically grown up at D is for Doggy, visiting several times a week. One of the things I love most is being able to check in on him throughout the day, and seeing how happy and exhausted he is after a full day of play is priceless. But the absolute highlight is that Simon can't even walk by the place without begging to go inside! When I drop him off, he literally runs to each staff member, tail wagging, full of excitement and joy. It's such a relief knowing he's in excellent hands, having the best time, while I'm at work. His social skills with other dogs have grown tremendously, and I credit that to his time at D is for Doggy. We also get Simon groomed here by Prae, and she's just incredible! His last grooming was so relaxing for him, he actually fell asleep. Every haircut has been perfect, and you can tell how much love she puts into her work. We are beyond grateful for the care and affection Simon receives at D is for Doggy--it truly feels like a second home for him!

Willa (the sheltie) was fluffy and looked great, and had a perfect undercoat brushing that avoided lots of shedding when she got home. Arlo, the doodle, needed a pretty close cut, but it still looked awesome. Arlo and Willa will be back soon.

Unless you want to be nickle & dimed, do NOT come to this groomer…read more Very unfortunate to be leaving this review. We've taken our dog to this shop about 4 times in total. The first time the Front Desk communicated that the grooming would be done in 30 minutes and when we came back, she denied ever saying that. The grooming took 4 hours in total. We were very unhappy with this, but the owner graciously gave us a discount so we took it as a gesture of good faith. The 2nd/3rd time were fine, but then our dog ended up at the vet & got an ear infection because we found out that they never cleaned out his ears or plucked his ears so we spent over $1K at the vet. The final time (I know, stupid us for going again), we wanted to see if we could make it work because of the proximity of Bark Shoppe and wanting to truly support local businesses, they charged us a "LATE FEE" for picking up our dog 30 minutes after they called even though they never once disclosed that this policy existed. I emailed their team and instead, their front desk person called us and said "we can't refund this fee and moving forward it would be better for your dog to be groomed elsewhere." What. A. Joke. We will NOT be coming back to this place.
