First visit, arrived about 11:30am and it was pretty busy. Ordered a latte but didn't grab any pastries as the case was basically empty. Latte could have been hotter, as it was only luke warm. We didn't try any other food as we'd previously eaten. Could use a little background music to warm it up. Nice, clean business. Definitely would recommend trying if your in the area.

I was excited to try this new coffee house and bakery so I bundled up and took a drive It was opening day, but I got there early to beat the rush. ( I was sure it would be busy). This house/business is so beautifully renovated, it has made use of antiques and vintage items without feeling old fashioned They have their own brand of coffee which was smooth, full bodied and perfect fory first cup of the day. They have a nice assortment of pastries and beautiful loaves of sourdough bread and focaccia. They also had sandwiches, which looked amazing! I brought home a mug(of course), and a loaf of the Caprese Focaccia. It was so flavorful and I made a perfect grilled cheese with it for my lunch

It was my first time here, I met up with a friend that has been telling me how great this place was. I agree, everything I ordered was delicious. The wrap was filling and flavorful. I enjoyed the iced latte it was balance with sweetness and taste of the espresso. I picked up the focaccia to make sandwiches at home. The service was friendly and welcoming as you walk in. It wasn't too busy yet but my friend said it gets packed. It's nestled behind The Cider Mill and we sat outside and the utilized the restaurant outdoor patio during the bakery business hours.

Vanilla latte - hot and iced

I'm so glad the Cider Mill opened this bakery a cafe because it was so good! On a Saturday morning, the place was packed with kind people enjoying each other's company and some coffees. The line was almost out the door and the parking lot was completely full which I was glad to see they were doing such great business! Their pastries and homemade sour dough is displayed in their glass case as you wait in line and I couldn't decide what to try first. I went with a breakfast burrito for today and I am definitely going back for some sour dough and whipped honey butter.. are you kidding that sounds amazing. My burrito was so flavorful and super filling so I can't wait to try more! I ordered an iced vanilla latte and it was accidentally made hot - no big deal and they remade me an iced one and even let me keep the hot one too. Their latte art is gorgeous as well, I admired it the whole time. Both coffees delicious and I like their menu isn't too big just stick to the basics and perfect those which is what they seem to be doing and I love it. The staff was so incredibly kind, helpful, quick, and patient with the big crowd and lots of questions! There is a seating area but on a busy morning you might need to come earlier or hope you can snag a table! Our table was a chess board with the pieces in a draw below - how cute and encouraging for people to stay enjoy their time in this cold winter weather. I can't wait to come back!

Cozy yet open and welcoming vibes all around! Even for a busy Sunday, Mother's Day, they were stocked with treats. The coffee was tasty, the treats were yummy (even a day later at home), typical prices for the menu. An amazing addition to an already amazing home base restaurant!

    Weekly food menu

This place is sooo cute. Went for breakfast this morning and it appears their food menu changes weekly and then they have daily specials and various pastries. It is small inside so you may not get a table but if you do it such a cute space to have breakfast or lunch. I got spinach and artichoke quiche with a mixed green salad and my mom got a wrap. We both got coffee but I got the weekend special which was a blackberry latte and not only was it beautiful but it tasted amazing. Also they have bread and pastries for sale and I brought home a load of sourdough. Everyone I came in contact was super nice and helpful. I am aware this place just opened but it already feels like it needs to expand. Definitely give it a try!

    The Calabrian sandwich

DANGEROUSLY GOOD! Ordered The Calabrian sandwich and immediately fell in love with this after the first bite! This sandwich was so good that I decided I had to create a Yelp account so this can be my first review. From the flawless tasting focaccia bread to every layer in between, this sandwich hit on every level!! Service was great, pleasantly quick with very friendly staff. Paul made our experience very enjoyable and appreciate him very much! Will absolutely go back!!

    Strawberry Nutella Danish

This place is so cute! Open and airy inside, this place feels big but cozy. With all of the windows, this place was drenched in sunlight and it was so perfect on a winter day! The service was very quick despite it being packed inside. The strawberry Nutella danish was to die for! I will say the coffee is incredibly strong, sand usually I drink my coffee with milk only, but I had to add some sugar to it. I will be going back for sure!

Nice place for a lazy afternoon hangout with friends.. my matcha order is so-so, can't taste the matcha but if you're into the sweeter side of matcha, it might work for you..

Another new local business! This coffee house/bakery was featured on the news this morning and although it's only 5 degrees out today, (yes, Fahrenheit) I figured I'd check it out as I am in the vicinity. I guess I wasn't the only one. It was packed! Located just behind The Cider Mill restaurant, the place was buzzing! The service was decent considering the crowd. The scenery is pleasant, overlooking trees/ woods in the back. Plenty of large windows and light! The dining area is decorated with a mix of antique end tables/ pieces and more modern seating. There is a fireplace in the dining area but not sure if it is working. A few art pieces are placed throughout and on the walls. I hear the home made breads are fantastic. At 11am today there are some pre-made meal options but all bakery items are sold out! Get here early for the first weeks of business, I suppose. A delightful local option that I plan on returning to!

    Strawberry danish

Wow, the espresso, oat-milk latte and cold brew were excellent. Incredibly cozy and charming building. Loved it. Service was fast and polite. Daughter said the strawberry danish was the best danish she's ever had. The peach cinnamon roll was sooo good too.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit. The vibe was relaxed and low-key, making it a good place to sit down and get some work done. I spent some time working while I was there and appreciated having a space where I could focus without feeling rushed. The staff was pleasant, and one of the employees was kind enough to take a picture for me when I asked, which I appreciated. The only thing that stood out to me was that there wasn't much of a greeting or acknowledgment when I walked in, but it wasn't a huge issue. The seating was okay. The chair I chose wasn't the most comfortable for an extended stay, but it got the job done. There was also some rock music playing during my visit, which helped create a casual atmosphere. I didn't order any coffee or food this time around, so I can't speak to the menu yet. This visit was more about finding a place to work and unwind for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. While I'm still searching for my go-to coffee lounge in Syracuse, Recess is definitely a spot I'd visit again. It has a chill, unpretentious vibe that makes it easy to settle in and spend some time there. I forgot to take more pictures will do when I go back.

Started walking in this general direction and the wonderful aroma of coffee varieties drew me in!…read moreSome of the coffees are actually named after some of the actual Finger Lakes, so that's cool. Went up to the counter and asked the young man a couple of (what I thought were) easy questions and he seemed like he could care less what I was saying and didn't want to be there. He gave a vague answer that didn't really quite answer my question. My daughter ordered a coffee and asked for beans to be ground while I was thinking about what I wanted to order. He prepared hers and I asked for my order. In the meantime my daughter noticed that he had filled it and had not included the oat milk she had asked for and she asked again for that. He put it on the counter for her to add, but there was no room to really add it. She put in a little and then I added a little to mine as well. He had handed her the bag of beans while cashing us out and she noticed that they were not ground...as she had asked him to do prior...so she had to ask again. In the meantime she had to dribble some of her coffee into a garbage dispenser so she could put the lid back on and drink from the cup. So, overall, the coffee smelled and tasted great, but the service was poor. The guy was not trying to be friendly or helpful at all. I get he probably didn't really want to be working, but he was. Sometimes you need to just accept it, drink a cup of your own coffee, wake up, and at least try to be "present" and accommodating. Luckily we are very easy-going people and just rolled with it without complaint. Until now I guess. I absolutely hate to put negative things in a review, but that was our real experience. Will I go again? Sure. I always give second and usually third chances. People have off days. My challenge to this young man is that next time someone shows up, actually say, "How can I help you?" and actually mean it and then be helpful. This is all we ask. The smell and taste of the product will sell itself and bring people in. I'd love to update this review in the future with glowing comments!
