Visiting Telluride for the weekend and forgot about it being the Telluride Film Fest. The town was hopping and lines out the door at every theater. We had heard that the best, fresh and tasty place in town for lunch was the Butcher and the Baker on Main Street. The line here was out the door, but we happened to snag bar seats. The staff here is very friendly explaining the food is made from scratch and farm to table. The line moved quickly. Everyone was "rubber-necking" the plates of dining patrons, so they knew what to order. Even though the restaurant is small, the vibe here is infectious and big. The menu here changes frequently depending what is in season and available. The lunch menu was intriguing and exciting. We ordered the fried green tomato burger with pickled onion, arugula and tomato aioli. The lightly cornmeal breaded tomatoes were crispy, perfectly fried and the aioli was spot on. A great idea and perfectly executed. I could of eaten two. The fries were fair, but the watermelon wedge was memorable. The maple ruby trout was seared and served with spinach, maple glaze, crispy quinoa, sunflower seeds, pear and a champagne vinegarette. This was light, tasty and had a distinct, but not over-powering flavor. The Butcher and the Baker is a true gem in Telluride with great flavor, good value and not pretentious. If you are seeking out a great lunch spot, don't miss the Butcher and the Baker. I'll have to return to the dessert cabinet on a future visit. Today's meal was memorable. You will notice there is always a line at this place. Once you eat here, you will understand why. As I stood in the line I saw the staff bringing up trays of fresh baked English muffins from the kitchen. I don't believe I've ever seen that before. The vast majority of establishments buy said muffins. I knew I was going to love it here! Got a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin (ofc) topped with a massive farm fresh egg and the most delicious sausage patty evahhhh. Dang. If only this was the kind of place that could franchise! We ordered the ham and Swiss croissant, which managed to be both flaky/crusty on the outside and tenderly soft on the inside. A big hit with our crew! We also ordered the bread pudding, which was made with chocolate chips and a raspberry jam, but was a bit dense for my taste. And we also got the raspberry cheesecake, which we polished off in just a few bites, and was everything you'd want in a creamy cheesecake. Stopped by on my birthday for a quick breakfast during Camp Alderwild. The line was out the door, and now I understand why! Not only was the service great, the food was excellent. So good! Had amazing sandwich that I could go on and on about but you just need to try out this place to understand. Would recommend for food ever.single.day. Cute and crowded inside. Limited outdoor dining but great if you can snag a spot. Now...the service...yikes. The counter server did not smile once and appeared rather annoyed by taking our order. At first I seriously thought she was joking but quickly realized that she was just rude. Took off one solid star for this. We ate lunch here a couple days ago. We got a hamburger, chopped chicken salad, and cheesesteak sandwich. For dessert we got a lemon bar and eclair. Everything was mid. We visited Telluride last week during the off season. Needed something light to eat after a day of traveling and tried The Butcher & The Baker. We ordered at the counter and chose a table by the window. They also have an outdoor seating area along the Main Street. My daughter tried the pumpkin chili and said it was quite good. Excellent farm fresh breakfast. It's generally busy, go early. Order from the counter, find a table and food is brought to you promptly. We had a breakfast sandwich with two farm fresh eggs, arugula, and their house made sausage. Delicious way to start the day. Cinamon bun was so fresh, gooey and tasty--a really good sugar rush, first thing in the morning. Coffee is freshly roasted and brewed, served in a large mug. Ample seating available inside or outside -- lots of dogs outside, just so you know. read more

I stopped in to this Telluride gem to grab breakfast before a hike. I was able to secure a seat at the counter. My server was Terrific and the food was top notch. Prices were reasonable for Telluride. They also source locally which is a big plus for me. Great service and great food. Can't beat that! read more

Food: We (my wife and I) had the pot pie. The menu said it was enough for 4; I didn't believe it before I ordered, and I was correct! It was barely enough for both of us! I'm sure a can opener was part of the preparation. It was low-end convenience store quality food. Service: Doesn't really exist there. You order at the register, they point to the water cups and faucet, and then they do bring the food to your table after they heat it up. Cleanliness: HA HA! WTF? My wife had to scrape something off her knife. My plate didn't look too clean, but not bad enough to get another, I just used the pie tin not the plate. Ambiance: Low-end nothing. Rude. Bartender thinks he's too cool to be nice and acted like every question I asked was stupid. Told my family "this is a really inconvenient spot for you guys to be" in a very annoyed voice. It was busy in there and we didn't have a lot of options. At least be nicer about it. Gluten free cookie had other pastry crumbs on it. Not mad at it, it happens. I asked for a new one and explained it could get me sick. She went from all smiles to clearly annoyed and snatched the cookie from my bag and threw it on the counter. I mean she really SNATCHED it. We were received with warm hellos greeting us as we started our day off with a hearty breakfast... BUT the guy that took our order seemed to have been "partaken with the medicinal smoke"- he simply couldn't get our order taken correctly. He completely didn't enter my order, despite his acknowledgment of having gotten it. We had to tell him THREE (3) times my husband ordered pineapple juice, NOT apple, NOT orange- and yet it arrived at our table as orange juice, even though he confirmed he had the correct request. I was in town and simply wanted a pastry. they closed at 2pm and it was 1:55, I did not want to sit down and eat, I just wanted a pastry to go. They had a closed note on a chair at the front door. I leaned in and asked if I could just get a pastry to go. A "No, I am sorry we closed a little early." would have been fine, but this rude employee with curley hair and glasses yelled, the sign says closed, we're closed. I am not sure how the food is but the service is awful. Another couple in my group had a similar experience with the same employee when they simply asked for salt and pepper. read more

Literally this sandwich is exactly how my mama has made them for me for the past 40 years. So of course I loved it. This place is so simple and cute. Usually line is long but move fast, seats are available inside and outside, only problem is that bathroom is small it might need to wait for a long time. I had the shishito pepper, personally I'm not a fan. It's deep fried but not roasted, soaked in honey so it's a bit too sweet for my taste. Cute bakery and lunch spot on Colorado Ave. The pastries looked incredibly yummy. We just had a light lunch - there are wraps and sandwiches, along with some other heavier dishes but most sandwiches. My chicken salad wrap was very good and served with home made chips and a large piece of pineapple. Every dish is served with a big piece of fruit - spouse had honeydew melon. Indoor seating is limited, but out back there is a larger deck with additional picnic style seating. Servers will bring you food out to you. Overall very lively and busy. Ended up here after a morning hike at Bridal Veil. There was line to order but it moved fast. I had a lemonade while my husband tried the Ginger margarita. Drinks came instantly. However our order for food took so long to come, that I started thinking that our order was lost. However my sandwich of fried green tomatoes was SO good. It was crispy, tangy and had a great sauce. Had breakfast here yesterday and normally I wouldn't even mention give this more stars because the steak and eggs were good but I had a horrible experience with the guy in glasses taking peoples orders. Was looking for salt and pepper asked a simple question. He stared at me directly and said "I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention to you" in a very condescending way then proceeded to talk about me to the next customer in line. We visit telluride often and normally all the staff everywhere we go is friendly. This guy gives The Butcher & The Baker a bad name. Another person in our party had a bad experience with the same guy trying to order a pastry. Hopefully the owners read this and give him some coaching on how to treat customers. read more
