We've been staying in Durango for the past month, and every single time we stopped into Doughworks, they had already sold out of the apple fritters. Now, I should mention that I'm not exactly an apple fritter enthusiast. I probably have one every 4-5 years. But for whatever reason, I got a craving for one and couldn't shake it. Each visit became a running joke: "Maybe today?" This morning, sweet victory, and a candid from my partner. The apple fritter was finally there waiting for me, and the first bite immediately transported me back in time to being a little kid standing at the donut counter in my local Bashas. Warm, nostalgic, perfectly indulgent, and absolutely worth the wait. If you're lucky enough to get one before they're gone, do it. Apparently, the locals already know what they're doing. I came here while in Durango for the weekend and had a good meal. I got a build your own skillet with veggies and an iced chai. The skillet was well cooked and I did like choosing my own veggies, but it didn't have much flavor. Additionally, the chai was good but not exceptional, it didn't have much spice or depth, just tasted like sweet milk. They usually have boba (tapioca pearls) you can add to the chai, which I think would elevate the experience, but they were out of boba when we came. Tried this spot on our visit to Durango. There were 4 of us. 3 of us ordered donuts. The donuts were fresh and yummy. I wanted a Bismarck and asked if they were jelly filled. They were not but the employee offered to get me one and fill it with jelly for me! It was as delicious and FULL of jelly. 2 of us ordered bagels as well! They nicely loaded the bagels with our cream cheese selections. The coffees were hit & fresh. Only downside was there premade bagel egg & sausage sandwiches. One person in our group purchased one and said she could not eat after a few bites as it as it tasted " weird" All in all we really liked it read more

Amazing donuts! My husband and I are in Durango for vacation, and these donuts would be a staple if we lived here.

The prices are really high for everything. The coffee was good, got a Carmel cold brew, which is hard to mess up, so it's a pretty standard cold brew. I got an old fashion and a chocolate glazed doughnut to try. The were both above standard for doughnuts but they were over priced for what you get. If you are about supporting local I would check this place out but be prepared for higher than expected prices. read more

This is a great trip! So far every place we have gone to eat has been impressive. The donuts are fresh. According to the waitress all of the left overs at the end of the day are donated. So they start each day anew. Tried out the Doughworks burrito. Pretty decent, there is a lot there. My mistake was getting a Pinecone while I waited. The Pine come is a sort of cross between monkey bread and a cinnamon roll. If I stay here too long I am going to gain back all the weight I lost. read more

This is for the dining room in the back. Didn't use the to-go ordering out front, that looked fine. The dinning room is a mess. They had a hostess, two waitresses and three bus staff and several empty tables. It took us five minutes of staring at empty tables to be seated and then sat for 10 before a waitress came. I don't believe ttheres much to NOT love about this place. Whether you are here for the donuts, sit-down breakfast, coffee, or lunch; Durango Doughworks is sure to please. During our short visit to Durango, we came here twice! That's saying a something when there are many other options in the area. The iced lattes are delicious, the Doughworks Burrito is large, filling, and comes wIth the most delicious green chili stew I've ever had (I'd get a bowl of it all by itself!). I don't think the burrito needs to be smothered in the stew, though it IS hard to pick up and eat the burrito without two very dexterous and managed hands, so you'd likely be fine doing so; you may be eating it with a fork and knife anyway! I'm still thinking about the breakfast I ate here! We came at 11am on a Wednesday and there was no wait for a table. The staff were friendly and our waitress was prompt and very polite. The cinnamon roll French toast I had was to die for!!! Omg, it was delicious and so filling. Sausage patties and doughnuts were yummy. And their house coffee was good. I love that they locally source ingredients and home make everything. Doughnuts are so much better and fresh this way. The facility was clean and brightly cheery colored inside. When we come back to Durango this will be one of our first stops! read more

I'm still saddened that my favorite donut shop closed... but this place isn't all that bad. The restaurant is what I'm reviewing today. Here's the deal, I was looking for pancakes, and I make amazing ones, so my standards are kinda high. We sat out to try our favorite breakfast joint, Old Timers Cafe, but it appeared to be closed. I assume they stopped serving breakfast. So we drove to Ruperts, sadly a line out the door and into the parking lot. Where else could we go, Dennys? Ugh... so that's how we ended up here. No, I didn't get pancakes. I got the chicken fried steak and eggs. I have been trying to lose weight, and protein is way better than carbs. At least, that's what the doctor says. Chicken fried steak was pretty good, no it wasn't hand battered it was a frozen one. But honest talk those are really good. The eggs really good... and the got us off the diet by bringing by a doughnut for us while we waited for our food. Over all really good experience. Food is on par with chain restaurants, so I can't complain too much. read more

Was looking for a brunch place and was happy to see they serve breakfast and lunch all day. My friends thought it would be cool to visit and get a treat afterwards. I got a club sandwich with fries which was ok. The fries were a bit salty for me and the sandwich was nothing special. It didn't taste like it had pepper jack cheese and the bread was just regular wheat sliced bread. The staff and waitress were friendly and we did not wait long for a table for a large party. She also had no problem splitting our tickets and making sure we had everything we needed. I thought the prices were reasonable but again the food was nothing special. The donuts were delicious, but the other breakfast items were disappointing. The green chili was watery, and they gave us a very small amount on our burrito. When we asked for more, they charged us $4.25 for a small cup of the same diluted, unappetizing green chili. My advice is to stick to the donuts and skip the rest of the breakfast food. read more

Stopped by this morning while looking around for a breakfast place when I finally stumbled upon this spot. It's a doughnut/ breakfast joint and you walk past all the tempting doughnuts first. The breakfast menu was expansive, and I ordered the skillet with quinoa, avocado, black beans, spinach, and tomato. All the ingredients were very fresh, just a bit on the plain side.. but certainly healthier than what I thought I'd find at a doughnut/breakfast place. read more

Good, go early. We arrive for breakfast around 11 AM and they ran out of donuts. Certainly not the end of the world but we had a few in our party who wanted donuts . The food was good. I thought it was a little overpriced but whatever. I suppose it's a tourist town so that's what they do. It was good but I don't know if it would be my first choice for going back. Good for the time, but I probably would explore other places just due to the price for food and coffee. I think a small coffee was $3.50 which means a little overpriced to my opinion. read more

Oh my heavens is this place good!! I got a Bismarck doughnut and the filled it in front of me with a ton of vanilla custard! The dough was so soft, the custard was creamy and it didn't have a ton of chocolate on top (I prefer it light) It was delicious and huge! With my mocha it's breakfast all by itself. I did order a bowl of fresh fruit and it was indeed cut fresh this morning. Breakfast here was great. My family ordered breakfast burrito's and honestly they looked and smelled delicious. I can see why the reviews aren't too great, and think it mainly comes down to the service. Really seemed like they didn't want us to be there or they didn't want to be there. Was a little confused as to the set up as well. We wanted to sit down but have to walk a little further back for that service I guess? That's on us. Ordered two burritos and the cashier basically pointed to a heat lamp where several were sitting. Salsa was good and homemade though! And burritos were fine. Nothing unique. read more

Traveling through. My dad and I got the Doughworks burrito. The green chili had no spice to it at all but it was soooo flavorful! My kids got chicken tenders and pancakes with bacon. The bacon was delicious, fries were good. Atmosphere was that of a busy cafe, staff was friendly. Food is delicious. They have gluten-free options. I have developed sensitivities to some common foods, notably eggs. When I ordered a GF egg skillet with no eggs, the waitress offered a fruit cup as a substitute, which was awesome. I ordered a sweet potato skillet which was a delicious blend of spicy/sweet/salty. I chose it because it had bacon and goat cheese. Oh and they sell doughnuts. The atmosphere is very pleasant. When we return, this will be our go-to breakfast stop. read more

The last handful of times I've been in, there was no manager on duty. The young kids who run the restaurant seem to not have enough training or experience in customer service to properly handle any type of situation. They act clueless and helpless. It's really sad. I kept going back because it has the potential to be really great, but I'm giving up on Doughworks. Please train your staff better. Teach them customer service, how to handle situations, problem solving skills, how to be kind, and how to think on their toes. Maybe people don't have cognitive thinking skills anymore, but at least have a manager there, if the staff is untrainable. read more

My husband and I stopped in because we read a great review. We should have read more reviews, because we might have had more realistic expectations. We sat in the coffee shop/to go area. Ordered the avocado toast on sourdough and the carne asada burrito. We 'saw-da' no carne in our burrito. Itty bitty flakes of meat. The queso sauce was curdled and broken down. The sour cream and salsa were good, eggs in burrito good, potatoes lackluster with no seasoning. Avocado toast just toast with sliced avocado and red pepper flakes. Not great . The chocolate old fashioned donut soaked in oil like it hadn't been drained after cooking. The cinnamon roll was beautiful but so doughy on the inside and undercooked.
