I haven't eaten here in a long time, but it wasn't bad the times I did. I had the pulled turkey and it was really good. The pigs outside the place are funny, as is the logo. I liked that they had sliced bread in plastic wrap for sale to go with your meal. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be sure to give it another go. read more

We took a 3500 mile motorcycle trip and were following the Mississippi River and chose Natchez as where we would stay. We found an AirBnB across the street from this restaurant that was in an old train station, this restaurant is caddy corner to it so definitely walking distance. We knew a big storm was coming so we didn't want to ride in the rain and we always try to eat local in each state so that's why we picked this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's very small but smells amazing thanks to the onsite smokers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on top. The pork was 4/5 stars are far as BBQ goes. Slaw was perfect, good crunch and flavor, not runny. The bun was pretty plane. The baked beans were also decently good. the Mac n Cheese was a bit disappointing...it was pretty underwhelming as far as mac'n'cheese goes...like 1/5 stars. My girlfriend got brisket and gave me a few bites and it was also good, 3.5/5 stars on that. I grabbed a mini pecan pie for dessert and it really wasn't any better than the .90c ones you can buy at Walmart. Before dinner we took a carriage ride with a local historian, the horses are just across the street. I recommend doing this $30 tour and then having him drop you off right in front of this restaurant for dinner. Service was pretty average but it is a serve yourself restaurant. They call your name, you pick up your own order, you get your own drinks, bus your own table. I would probably try some of the other spots in town before coming back here if I found myself in Natchez again, but I would come back here and eat again after I explored the other options. read more

Got a Togo order of the house special which is a sandwich and 2 sides w/drink plus an pint of Mac n Cheese which Thank Goodness we did get as the Mac n Cheese was the only edible thing all the rest sucked. Meat is so dry my dog didn't even eat it. The little bitty amount of sauce that is given on the side was sucked up by the stale bun that they attempted to hide by running it through a toaster however it just made it worse. Seriously the bun crumbled in my hands and half the dry meat fell out out. Order potatoe salad which potatoes were not done, they were barely soft and the taste was not very good, pasta salad which was so gross (it had peas in it, I've never in my life heard of putting peas in a cold pasta salad so I never thought to ask, I despise peas), baked beans (hubby said that canned baked beans are better), and coleslaw (he said nothing to write home and didn't take more than 2 bites of it). Everything but the Mac n cheese (which honestly taste like Stovers Frozen Mac n Cheese but we happen to like that so that was all we had out of 50$ worth of food to eat.) 1st and last time we will go there. The best meal we have had out of 3. Our last 2 meals were mediocre at best. The pulled pork here is everything you expect in southern smoked pulled pork. Moist and delicious with just the right amount of smoke flavor. The buns were toasted perfectly. The bbq sauce is nice. Not too sweet, with a little tang. Mike got some over the top pulled pork sandwich and said he wished he just gotten pulled pork because the Gouda, Mac and cheese and bacon covered over the pulled pork flavor. He did say the Mac and cheese was really good. The potato salad is a mayonnaise potato salad with fresh dill and green onions. I enjoyed it but would try another side next time. The coleslaw is slightly creamy but the turn off for me is the large amount of celery seed. I love celery seed but it was a bit too much. The banana pudding was delicious but my aunt and uncle didn't have a single Vanillawafer in theirs. It's not old fashioned. It's not the typical eagle brand milk recipe. Whatever it is, it's delicious. Just more vanillawafers please. Get the pulled pork. It's crazy good. The ambience is a typical BBQ joint feel, casual dining. The young ladies at the counter were very pleasant. You order at the counter and they call you to pick it up. We really enjoyed this meal and would frequent here if we lived nearby. This place was great! I walked there from my hotel right around the corner after being told about it by one of the hotel employees. I got nachos with brisket and it was amazing. You could get the brisket sliced or chopped, it had decent flavor, not overly fatty but there was a bit. The corn on the cob had a very weird flavor we couldn't place but didn't like whatever it was. The potato salad was ok, needed a little seasoning. The sausage was super good and I would definitely get that again. The chicken had a good flavor and was moist. I recently stopped here for an early dinner en route to Jackson. $14.00 purchased a pulled pork sandwich with sides of mac 'n cheese and black bean and corn salad, as well as a large soda (coke products). The pork was well smoked, and had terrific bark-- a good bite that deserved something better than an ordinary, store-bought bun that was no longer fresh. The mac 'n cheese was very traditional in taste, but you really want to try the black bean and corn salad, which is as peppery good as it is rare on a BBQ menu. Seriously good barbecue- I always eat the pulled pork - but the Brisket is also excellent The coleslaw is very good and I love the corn and black bean salad as well. But what makes it special is the barbecue sauce - probably the best I have ever tasted. Barbecue is something that has regional variations and folks from other places can be convinced it is better in TN, SC or even Texas - however Natchez MS has the best :). (Ok I know a place in TN that gives The Pig Out Inn some serious competition!) Normally a quick place to grab lunch - but can get busy. I like the funky eclectic decor as well. Served with sauce on the side (as it should be) so you can taste the meat itself. Chopped brisket is also good with a hint of smoke. The sandwich is piled high with brisket and the rib plate is very generous. Potato salad is a good, standard recipe as is the cole slaw. Fries are okay - thin cut curly fries that cool down quickly, but a fried yo a nice crisp. The absolute standout here is the black bean and corn salad. A bit of jalapeño and some cilantro in the mix make an outstanding dish. I'd eat that every day. Counter service is friendly and quick, and prices are reasonable. A local, down town, hole in the wall, family run BBQ joint with "stick to your ribs" quality cooking. Can't call it fancy, homely and down to earth absolutely. Personally, I thought it exceeded my expectations and was definitely right on with its rating. Being from central Texas, I feel like we're pretty serious about bbq. I ordered the brisket sandwich while my family ordered pork and Turkey. Side we sampled were beans, potato salad, and Cole slaw. On the hunt for some carryout dessert and a salad, I found The Pig Out Inn Barbecue thanks to several reviews mentioning their mini homemade pies (available in buttermilk, pecan pie and sweet potato). So, note that this is a carryout review focussed on the mini pies and side salad. I thoroughly enjoyed their mini side salad topped with pickled okra, cheese, tomatoes and homemade ranch dressing (would highly recommend!). The buttermilk pie is very similar to sugar cream pie with a thinker crust/topping. The have outdoor sidewalk seating and two rooms for indoor seating. They're also conveniently located one block over from the Mississippi River and walkway. The staff was really sweet during my brief carryout experience. read more

We were doing some fieldwork in Louisiana and due to the heat decided to put off lunch until after all of our work was through for the day. Soaked to the bone with sweat, we decided to wait and have an early dinner on the was back home. Still pretty damp when we arrived in Natchez, we stepped in and were greeted warmly by the counter girls, one carefully shredding a pork butt. And lucky for us, they have t shirts for sale; we all bought one and it felt like magic changing into a dry piece of clothing. Quality garments. My three meats and two sides were brisket sliced, pulled pork and ribs with mac n cheese and cole slaw. All precisely what I needed and unbelievably delicious. Others in my party got the pulled pork nachos and bbq chicken. I got another full plate for home and savored it for two days more. Chicken and ribs was dry. Little cup of sauce. Roast beef sandwich was good. But I was wanting barbeque. Locals must already know cause they was ordering hamburgers and fries. I was almost going to leave the south without trying bbq. But we made a pit-stop on our way out of Natchez, Mississippi. I wouldn't say it's a homerun slam dunk or the best barbeque I've ever had in my life but it was pretty good. You can taste the smokiness in the meat. I went with the combo sandwich deal. Went with the pork sandwich because they have a giant pig outside and pig in the name. But they still sell brisket here! lol. And hot sausage, and turkey, chicken, ribs, and sloppy joe meat. Sides I went with the coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. The cole slaw I thought was really bland and could have used more tang. Like I could even prepare a more interesting coleslaw with just buying a few things from the store. The macaroni tasted interesting. . . . it tasted maybe like it had been sitting out a little too long but the taste of it wasn't bad. It was creamy and cheesy. Maybe a little bit like Boston Market if anyone knows what that is out here but it was good. Other sides include: potato salad (which I really wish I went with!), black bean/corn, baked beans, pasta salad, corn on the cob. I tried my sister's piping hot baked beans and they were pretty good. I think the thing that sells me with the place aside from all the nostalgic Elvis photos on the walls is their bbq sauce that's both tangy and sweet and still warm in the bottle. read more

I made it back to Natchez at 5:40 and decided to do a quick loop from tomorrow's plans. Got back to the gas station at 6:35 for a top-off and looked into my dinner choices. This was #1 on my list and it said they closed in 25 minutes! I thought about it and called. I asked if I could order in 10 minutes if I drove right over. "No..." But can I order on the phone now for pickup? "Go ahead..." Two meats (brisket and sausage), two sides (potato and mac/cheese), and a dessert (pecan pie) later, I was on my way through town. Got here at 6:45 and actually had a bit of a wait behind a few other last-minute clients. That's alright. I had enough time to add a drink on and grab it - drink machine is super carbonated BTW, so you will spill it on yourself - and then my food was ready and I walked over to the riverfront to take some photos and eat some food. Sausage: 5 stars. Love the sausage. Fresh, delicious, large portion. Doesn't even need BBQ sauce. Brisket: 4.5 stars. Meat was delicious, it was a bit fatty but actually not as bad as I thought. Used most of the sauce on it, it went great. A little less portion than I may have wanted but honestly it was satisfying. Glad I thought of it. Potato salad: 4ish stars. Used the rest of the BBQ sauce on it. Just enough mayo to hold it together. A little sweet, portion is a little small with the single scoop, but decent enough to suggest it to you - you may want to order it as an extra side so you can get the 1/2 cup or cup filled instead of the single scoop. Mac & cheese: 3 stars. Definitely a step below the other sides, it tasted kinda old and not all that fresh. Bright yellow. Small scooped portion. Shoulda tried something else on the side instead, oh well. Pecan pie: 3.5 stars. I love pecan pie and they gave me a nice one, but it's still quite small and more crust than filling. The crust was a little stiff and stale, the filling was not enough to make up for it unfortunately. I should have gone for banana pudding after all. Verdict: Could be 5 stars with the right choices. If I lived or spent more time here, I'd definitely come back and try some different sides and desserts. If I came a little MORE before closing time, I'd have a seat in the restaurant instead of taking food out and see how that goes. So this could actually go up to 5 stars if I came back. But I'll say if you're walking around downtown this place is a "yes, eat." read more
