HELPS YOUR BACK! I came to the Hadley Pilates Studio in a sad state after finding out I have a collapsed disc in my lower back. The doctor told me surgery was the only real option. I could hardly walk or sit. I asked my chiropractor (who had stopped adjusting my back after we found out I had the disc issue) if there was anything that might work??? He scratched his head, and said, "Well a few of my clients went to the Hadley Pilates Studio and I haven't seen them since!" HELLO! I hobbled over there as quick as I could : -) I am happy to say within one session I was able to stand up straight. Within a few sessions I was able to walk without pain. In months I discovered the secret to help for bad backs, strong stomach muscles! The problem for back pain sufferers is exercises that work the stomach hurt the back. I was born with a curvature of the spine and at the age of 79 I have two compromised discs and have been told not to do weight baring exercises . 8 years ago I began Pilates with a trainer in Florida and found it hard but for some reason I stuck with it and after two years I began taking Pilates two times a week and I really "got" it. I have been going twice a week since then . I moved to MA in April 2017 and found the Pilates Studio in Hadley and found excellent trainers there and feel blessed to have this wonderful space to keep my spine supple and my muscles working. It is because of Pilates that I can walk the trails, stand straight, have reduced or no back pain and can have movement in my life. My daughter and I both had private sessions at the Pilates Studio. I have been exercising most of my life but I had never tried Pilates. I was very impressed with the instructor's ability to evaluate my needs, finding all the tight and weak muscles, and then having me use exactly the machines to help out my system. I'm not usually a fan of machines but these were really fun and effective. My daughter was having pain running in soccer and Katrina did a running session with her, evaluating her gait and giving her exercises to do, and within a couple weeks of using the exercises my daughter's pain went away. I went to The Pilates Studio for BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby) mat class when my son was just a few months old. I had never done pilates before, and I was pretty concerned about my ability to keep up with the class and my baby's ability to tolerate an hour or so of an exercise class. I was blown away by Laurie's ability to meet me where I was, and to make me feel completely at ease from the moment I walked in. She easily altered the instruction based on my ability and my baby's temperament. She even showed other moms how to nurse while participating in the class. After a summer of dedicated classes at The Pilates Studio, my body feels so much better. No more aches and pains of the back, shoulders and general stiffness. I have some old injuries but they barely bother me as I strengthen my core muscles. My thighs are slimmer and longer, as they say Pilates can accomplish. No matter what your goal is, this is the place for you! A friend with RA told me about Pilates two years ago. She swore it was the best "pain and strength building"pill available. I finally went and started small group classes the Katrina, then OOV classes with Suzanne and finally Bone Density classes with Maureen! Re: Runity Class: I would describe myself as a recreational runner and enjoy running best when I am done. I was initially worried that I would be unprepared for the class, seeing as I am a "recreational runner". Don't believe your bad thoughts! My instructor, Kay, continues to do an amazing job of meeting me where I am at, and raising the bar. This class is all about working smarter, not harder. Having visited the Amherst - North Hampton area I was very impressed by the gracious attitude of the instructors. This in combination with their impressive knowledge of the body and how it works, and being able to use this to direct your workout, makes for a very beneficial time spent at the studio. I thought the Pilates Studio in Hadley was a nice option for my stiff muscles. I was recently in a bodybuilding competition, and who would have thought that pilates would have given me that edge i was looking for. This studio was much more engaging than some of the other local options. read more
