The Pines meets all the care needs of my 105 year old Mother. Everyone there has been very helpful and understanding.

my friend's mom was in the rehab at Pines. She was in pain, so when the pain management "doctor" came, he put her on a very high dose of oxycodone. She became mentally incapacitated. She was not only incapable of doing any physical therapy, but was unable to feed herself or lift a cup of water to her mouth. We went to see her and her lips were dry and chapped so we brought the water straw to her mouth so she could drink. Her eyes stayed closed and she moaned and cried the entire time we were there. I tried to ask her questions but she couldn't answer us. She was like this for days. They eventually sent her back to the hospital where she awoke several hours later with no recollection of what had happened. I feel sorry for the patients that have no one to advocate for them. read more

I cannot express enough my gratitude, and appreciation for the nurses and staff at the Poughkeepsie pines. I am eternally grateful for their professionalism and care they took of my mother who was there for just over two years. As an EMT I Have been to many nursing homes from the very best to the very worst, and in my experience, the Poughkeepsie Pines Is right at the top of that List. Whenever there was an issue with my mother, they immediately called me, Whether it was her needing A shot or vaccine or she slipped out of her wheelchair. I immediately got a call. My mother was not always the easiest person to work with, but somehow they Gained her trust and truly cared for her. I would visit my mom pretty much weekly and often bring my puppies that she absolutely adored, there would be times that I would arrive and she would complain of a cough or an issue and of course I would go right down to the nurses station to See if they were going to do something about it and to my amazement, they always knew about the problem or complaint and had already started taking action before I could say anything. They would have a quarterly meeting to review patients statuses, Nurse, physical therapist, social service, Nutritionist, sometimes as much as 5 to 6 people on the phone As They would include me in their conference call to Review my mother's status. They We're on top of her daily needs and long-term needs as we were all able to work together to keep my mother happy and comfortable. Can't imagine worse care. I was admitted here for rehbilitation after major surgery. I was in severe pain. They did not have all of my pain medications. They said I needed to wait for the nurse for any medications. Nurse did not bring me medications the first day. None. At night I asked for the supervisor since I still had not gotten pain medications. The supervisor must get the pain medications and the person assisting me had not asked for them because she didn't want to walk that far to get them. BTW my daughter is a cna in a nursing home and said they always have all the medications before a new patient arrives. They refused to take me to the bathroom after dinner, said I was in bed for the night and should pee in the paper underwear. Supervisor told them they must take me to the bathroom. They refused to take my roommate to the bathroom and she said "they're going to be sorry " and had a bowel movment in bed which they had to clean up. Dietitian plus two other staff discussed my swallowing problems, asked which food I had trouble with. I told them absolutely could not eat hamburger patties. Guess what they gave me? A cheeseburger! After 2 days my husband and I agreed that I couldn't stay. I left AMA. Felt staying was more risk then going home and finding a different place. They sent me home with prescriptions for a different patient, not mine, leaving both the other patient and me with no medication. It was a 2 hour ride by ambulance, when I got there I told them that I needed to go to the bathroom. They said no, couldn't do that until after the nurse saw me, which was not soon. After much persuasion from my husband and me someone agreed to give me a bad pan. read more

terrible i should visited it but close to home and couldn't walk.. choose it because that one nd another had 3 stars for staff. the first day was terrible. the food ss good, one star. the other star was most staff. ther was a few that were completely rude. one staff was vindicate. She got upset because i had to go to bathroom antd took 25 minutes ,embassed to say i did need her. She flew into a rage. for spit and very cruelty i always asked for a pitcher of .water. i set it up to make it easy, she never brought a pitcher again Just spite work and nobody brought me any s she worked 45 yrs. the dockers i saw 3 time andd hear her say we are getting rid of him i was put on blood thinner a having to call an ambulance to take it out. had 2 in me .i called supervisor asker name and started to say nol my name, call Monday. hohon down.w dare u try to get her involved and slammed the the phone down on me.and said a doctor has o take it out.i explaine t couldnt walk thats when the phone when the phone went down . read more

We appreciate the staff, medical personnel, PTs and OTs, and social workers who helped my dad during his short term rehab after his ER stint. Special thanks to Jill (social work) and Anna (social worker who helped us during intake and answered my many questions during my tour). Pros: * The staff tried their best given their workload. Some could be snippy but given their job and working with some difficult patients (i.e. my parents) I could empathize. * PT and OT were able to get my dad walking 50 feet and to walk up some stairs after coming in completely unable to do it. Kudos to these folks as well. * Overall, the facility seemed fairly clean and facilities seemed to be reasonably new-ish. * like any other one of these rehab places, they are a one-stop shop in a lot of ways: beauty salon, ambulette services, social activities all available / included or bookable as line items. * hella close to the hospital, which may be an advantage for anyone coming out of a less-than-stable medical situation. It was one of the reasons why I put this place on our short list of considerations, given my dad had just come out of 2 back-to-back ER stays and was still suffering from a chronic lung disease and tachycardia. * has private rooms, in which a caretaker (i.e. spouse) can stay overnight if necessary Cons: * Food wasn't great but you are able to bring in your own food, it's of course not as strict as the hospital about outside food. BYO protein drinks, nutritional supplements, etc. * Depending on the wing, nurses or technicians might be more strapped for time and less able to attend to patient calls for assistance. * If medicine has to be administered shortly after intake, I'd suggest making sure your scripts are filled. They get the scripts straight from the hospital but use a third party out in Long Island to deliver the necessary meds, so on your first day, you may be stuck without meds (as was the case with my dad until late in the evening even though his intake was at 12, and some meds weren't available until the next day). * Parking can be congested at certain hours of the day (around lunchtime, after work hours) when family members are more likely to visit. * Not in the greatest area generally... while I wouldn't say it's unsafe, it's definitely in the city city part of Poughkeepsie * If you're a caretaker -- BYO lunch, there are few food establishments near here and parking in city of Poughkeepsie is typically sparse / side of street only. There is only a vending machine and they'll sell snacks once a week (school-store style). * While the rooms had new-ish wood flooring, there was a lot of dust under fairly accessible furniture that they could have done a better job of cleaning up, especially since my dad was here with a lung disease. read more

If you care about someone that needs a rehab, DON'T send them here! Nurses were terrible & did not give me my meds when they were supposed to. Food was terrible. Poorly run. Thanks to them, I got COVID because nurses did not follow proper protocols! I had never had COVID before. I couldn't get out of there fast enough read more

My husband is now here at PINES after an open heart surgery. I was so reluctant to come to PINES even if the therapy and therapist were excellent. My husband's last experience there was really awful. Inspite of its closeness to our home l was still hoping to go to another place. My husband's experience at Pines then during his first bout of rehab was a nightmare. 13 days without sleeping. He was rooming with a fine gentleman but he slept during the day and wheeled around bumping at my husbands bed all night. They did not heed to my request to transfer my husband to another room. This gentleman's previous roommate was able to get another room, though. Lucky him. This man should have been kept in isolation. Luckily, this second time around, through Lisa's help we were told that my husband will get a private room at PINES. Thank God we did come back. The nursing staff was great. The therapy session was wonderful. The kitchen people were very accomodating. The fourth floor attendants are so good natured that made my husband and for that matter, myself as well, comfortable, What a complete turn around. THANK GOD FOR PINES! YOU DID A TURN AROUND. Keep a CAREFUL and watchful eye on your loved one at this poor excuse of a facility. My father was over sedated 3 days after a serious surgery and left for hours slumped over in a wheelchair, no liquids, no nothing, slumped over like a dead person. When I came in the supervisor Lily agreed this was not the way to treat a patent. I'm still waiting for Lily's report I had asked her to write up and am currently still attempting to call the front desk for 20 minutes with no one answering. If you don't live close by or don't have a family member to stay with your loved one all day I would seriously not recommend this facility. Instead of caring about individual patient's needs they scan their discharge papers to see what narcotics they can legally give and drug them up so they don't have to be bothered. There are a few compassionate people there but they can't be everywhere and do everything and then the health of your fragile loved ones is in he hands of people who truly could care less. read more

First, let me tell you how scary it is to have the responsibility to choose a rehab/nursing home. I am so grateful to God that I chose The Pines in Poughkeepsie, NY to take care of my dad who went from the rehab. floor to long-term care within weeks. The staff work so hard to keep a clean, sanitary and upbeat home for the patients. The nurses, aids and all the administratorss are outstanding. The Social Workers are so wonderful helping with advice and paperwork throughout the transitioning from short to long-term care. The food is good and the attention given to my dad is more than I can ask for. I had to take this time to write about a place that is a pleasure to go to every day. Humans striving every day to help other humans in the best way they know how. I am beyond grateful every day for all the employees at The Pines who make my dad and all the patients as comfortable and happy as possible. It has been my new norm going every day to visit my dad. I really think that I would like to volunteer one day at The Pines. It would be a way of keeping the connections with the staff who have made such a difference in my life and who care so deeply for my loved one. read more
