So first, very friendly staff. They improperly installed the Oil Filter Gasket which was discovered…read more47 miles later after the Engine had lost All Lubricant and been run with No Oil. They did up sale, I called about adding freon to the air conditioner. On arrival I told the technician I needed Freon an Oil change and asked that they look for an oil leak. A few moments later the technician joined me in the lobby and gave me a quote for the oil change which I approved. He left. Around 15 minutes later he handed me an invoice for the Oil change. I asked what about the Freon and could you spot the leak. Oh yeah. He returned moments later and stated policy requires that they excavate the entire air conditioning system and replace all the Freon in excess of $200. The addition of Freon was the reason for my visit and the oil change was being done because I was there. Had I been told upfront about this process I wouldn't have had the oil changed at this location and would have had it done where they were willing to add Freon! OH if only, because that was the good news. No Freon, they did not spot the leak, at this point in my mind they didn't look. 47 miles later NO Oil. Their position, their Corporate Position, no damage was done. It is an older car an if in the near future the engine fails replacement exceeds the car's value. It's a Franchisee of Jiffy Lube, Stonebriar Auto Service LLC - possibly out of Bentonville AR. Jiffy Lube says it's a Franchisee problem. I guess luckily it was an older car. What if it was a /ur 20,000 or 40,000 automobile. Not Jiffy Lubes problem it's Stonebriar who Insist No Damage was done, they admitted the faulty filter installation. So what just wait for it to fail, hope for the best. It will require an expensive diagnostic autopsy to prepare for litigation. Man oh man. A quick Google search shows this happens a lot, a lot. Conversation with a Reputable Certified Volkswagen Repair shop says it happens a lot not only Jiffy Lube. Inadequate Training of low cost Technicians. Fairly simple procedure drain the oil replace the filter refill the oil. That's not what happened. Beware. Question, how far can a vehicle be driven with no oil without damaging dozens of components? Fairly sure the answer is 0.
