We have seen so many wonderful performances put on by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust over the years. We have seen concerts, comedians, plays, authors, etc. They do such an excellent job and have wonderful content. I've loved all the performances I have seen since moving to Pittsburgh at the beginning of 01. The check in process at the Benedum is like a well oiled machine. You get through the doors and inside so easily. My mom has a pacemaker so she can't go through the medical detectors. They never give her a hard time and make it so easy for her which we appreciate. Recently, my family and I saw Camelot and Back to the Future. Both shows had wonderful casts, were timely and so well done. The actors in both shows were fantastic with wonderful voices. Don't buy a gift certificate from the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. I purchased a $100 certificate as a Christmas gift for my husband so he could attend a show at Liberty Magic. The printed certificate was unreadable and couldn't be edited or reformatted in any way. I contacted the Trust to see if anything could be done to fix it, and I'm still waiting for help, less than a week before Christmas. Terrible presentation and terrible customer service. read more

I am beyond grateful to the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for bringing such highly talented artists to us in Pittsburgh. You would think since we're in a smaller city, the shows we have wouldn't even compare to those in New York City, but WOW, I have been completely blown away by each show that I've attended. Most recently, we saw Mean Girls at the Benedum Center. To begin with, all of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust staff were phenomenal. From the staff outside controlling the lines to the security folks and staff inside directing us to our seats and controlling the flow of traffic in the bathroom (sounds silly, I know, but they truly were great at getting those lines down at intermission), each and every staff member was kind, courteous, and seemed to genuinely be happy to be there and to do their job. They made our experience great from the moment we arrived. Onto the show, just WOW! The live orchestra was amazing, the performers were first class, and all of the backgrounds and scenery were incredible. Even my fiancé, who is not a huge fan of musicals, was completely blown away and asked what's the next show we're going to come out for?! The whole experience was "so fetch" (had to through in a Mean Girls reference). It is amazing that we can have such a "Big Apple show experience" right here in our beautiful city! read more

I recently attended The Lion King with my husband and was blown away by the performance! I'm not one to attend broadway shows or musicals, but this experience was one-of-a-kind and has me interested in seeing more performances in the future. The performance was outstanding! The live orchestra music and actors were top of the line. I truly felt like I was witnessing the best of broadway while sitting in Pittsburgh! There was a mixture of children (about 6 years old and older) and adults at the show; it was a great experience for all ages! Our seats were on the first level in the back of the theater next to the sound/lighting booth. Despite where our seats were located, we had a full view of the stage and were next to the aisle and one of the exit doors. The theater seemed to be an appropriate size for the show. People were complimenting the sound/lighting staff on the quality sound during the performance. One person said that in other performances, the sound wasn't as good where they sat, but it was excellent during the Lion King. One of the first things I noticed was how friendly and professional the cultural trust staff was. From the ticket office, to security, to the ushers, everyone greeted us with a warm smile and was happy to point us in the right direction. The pleasant, upbeat personalities made the night exciting and added to the experience. My family is mostly a group of sports fans, but the wonderful experience we had with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will have us returning in the future! The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust does a great job of bringing in shows. I saw Hamilton in January and just the other night I saw The Lion King. Both times I was super impressed with the process of picking up your tickets, entering the Benedum (stadiums should take note on how to efficiently run security), getting drinks, using the bathroom (they have attendants in the bathroom to make sure all the open stalls are being used quickly), and watching the show itself. All of the staff are so professional and there is nothing like getting dressed up for a night out. The Lion King was an amazing show. I was so impressed with the actors, the music and the costumes. I had read an article about the first Cultured Cocktails event and knew I didn't want to miss it again. Once inside the Benedum Center I was blown away as the entire lobby, basement, second and third floor were packed with different local restaurants offering cocktails that were paired with food that complimented them perfectly. Some of the participating bars and restaurants included: Braddock's, Bridges & Bourbon, The Commoner, Con Alma, Eddie Merlot's, Monterey Bay & Fish Grotto, Or, The Whale, Scratch, The Warren and Yuzu Kitchen. Each vendor did an outstanding job and kept the food and drinks coming all night as there were at least 500 or more people at the event. There was also plenty of entertainment including a D.J. and in the basement area a band that featured an amazing singer that keep our heads bobbing all night. You could vote for your favorite drink, but I couldn't pick just one so I don't know how the judges did it. There was even a photo booth. We attended the 2nd annual 'Cultured Cocktails' event this past Saturday at the Benedum Theater. It was a lot of fun. The event consisted of a variety of local restaurants serving both cocktails, and a food item that was paired with it (see photos I posted for more details). We enjoyed the variety of samplings, plus in addition, they had a DJ, blasting music in the lobby (volume was a bit bombastic), a photo booth, and a place to vote for your favorite food and drink items. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust does a really good job of bringing shows to Pittsburgh and expanding the theatre available for those living here. Generally, their employees are competent and friendly. Security can be a bit rude, but hopefully they'll work on that - they may have hired hastily due to the way they expanded the security. read more

One of my absolute favorite things about the city of Pittsburgh is the abundance of art and cultural experiences available. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a huge piece of what makes this possible. I was fortunate to get to see A Bronx Tale at The Benedum on opening night and was surely impressed! The box office at The Benedum was efficient and staff were kind and helpful. Security checked us in and the ushers assisted us in finding our seats. The bar staff were all excellent as well. The show itself was spectacular. The performers were top notch. The orchestra was amazing. The production value was great. Literally do not have one bad thing to say. I've lived in Pittsburgh for 4.5 years and I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't spent much time downtown except during work. Man I was missing out! The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust really has it together and I was super impressed by the recent showing of Mean Girls at the Benedum Center. I've been to many broadway shows in New York but never one in Pittsburgh and I was blown away not only by the talent but the venue itself. Maybe I'm a newbie but I don't think I've ever been to a theater that had multiple bars in it. I'm not just talking about a drink stand but an actual bar! The candy and drinks were reasonably priced too. Everyone was super friendly as well and the whole venue was just stunning. This is a valuable organization that helps Pittsburgh be as wonderful as it is. The Cultural Trust has brought so many wonderful entertainers to the city. There are many fun activities and events that take place in Pittsburgh because of the Cultural Trust. From magic shows, to concerts, Broadway shows, regular wine events and sometimes dance performances- there's something for everyone! The most recent show that I've seen was Mean Girls at the Benedum Theatre and it did not disappoint at all. I've been able to see a number of Broadway shows thanks to the Cultural Trust. This organization strives to bring the arts to the city and they surpass that exponentially. Everyone I have interacted with who is associated with the Cultural Trust has been extremely pleasant and enthusiastic about the work they do. These people include the ushers that helped me find my seat, the security people and even some of the bartenders. Pittsburgh would not be the same city without the Cultural Trust. I love Pittsburgh so much and I know that living near downtown and being able to take advantage of some of the cultural events the Cultural Trust hosts is part of the reason why I love PGH. read more

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust knows how to put on a show. The Trust brings great performances and entertainment into the city and has great facilities. The facilities create the downtown cultural district and there are tons of great restaurants to go to before a show. I attended the Lion King at the Benedum Center and was blown away. The show was amazing (obviously) and was a world class performance in Pittsburgh but the operations were just as on. The Benedum was appropriately staffed, lines moved quickly especially at the box office and to get inside. There were plenty of bathrooms, bars, and a place to get a snack even during a quick intermission. The staff was friendly and helpful and the facilities were perfect. I was very impressed by how smoothly everything ran and loved the show they put on and how they've created a great downtown atmosphere! read more

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is the heart of the city's entertainment district. Under it's umbrella are the Benedum Center, Heinz Hall, the O'Reilly theater, the Byham theater, the August Wilson theater, the Harris theater, the Cabaret at Theater Square, the Backstage bar, the Arcade comedy theater, and the central box office. Also, they manage the Trust arts educational center, Agnes R Katz plaza, and have their own parking garage. All types of entertainment are held in these venues from Broadway musicals, plays, concerts, the opera and so much more. They will rent out their space to companies like the Pittsburgh Ballet theater who's most recent production of Alice in Wonderland was beyond compare. They now have instituted a new security measure where you are only allowed one which must be no larger than 16x16x8. You can either purchase your tickets at the venues individual box office, the central box office or online if you create an account. You can join the Cultural Trust with a minimum $25.00 donation which will give you advance access to ticket sales before they go on sale to the general public. However, season ticket holders always will get first opportunity. I find subscribing to a whole series can be not only costly but you never know where your seats are and you have the same seats throughout. Unless they get a blockbuster hard to get ticket production I probably won't subscribe but I do take in a lot of their shows and have never been disappointed with my choices. Parking is also reasonable since evening rates start after 4 on weekends and continue all day Sat and Sun. The central hub is located on Liberty Ave and most of the theaters are within a short walking distance to each other. There are plenty of restaurants to go for pre or post theater. The theaters are arranged differently and both elevators and handicapped seating is available. Perhaps the best thing I like about seeing the Broadway shows here in Pittsburgh is that you save tons of money vs the NY theater prices and you don't get lost in the mayhem when your Broadway show lets out along with most of the other ones and you find yourself snagged in Times Square. Sure you may not get the all the big names but to me it's the show that makes it. My next visit will be a live concert at Cabaret at Theater Square with Tony award headliner Brandon Uranowitz fresh off his run in Falsettos. read more

I love that the Cultural Trust puts on events that I can afford and enjoy as a student. The ticketing process at the Benedum is so easy, and I love that their scanners can read e-tickets as well as the usual paper tickets. For me, something small like technology upgrades makes a big difference, especially when it keeps lines moving. I've also been to Heinz for PSO and seasonal concerts, Liberty Magic for two magic shows, and the August Wilson Cultural Center for a play, and have been impressed with the caliber of events the Cultural Trust puts on. I love catching shows with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. They bring in big name shows as well as local groups. They're a little more affordable than catching a Broadway show in New York, but are still of the same caliber. There's also usually a student discount if you're connected to a local university. Parking sometimes is an issue if there are other events happening at the same time. Definitely go a little earlier to find parking. Little to no wait usually at these venues. read more

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a bad neighbor to residents residing by the Benedum and Backyard performing space downtown. Somehow the Cultural Trust thought that it would be a great idea to not only 1) set up the noisy Three Rivers Arts Festival directly in the middle of a residential area but 2) then create the "Backyard" outdoor concert space at Eighth & Penn to then host more noisy concerts that will run from late June 2022 through September 2022. I live downtown by the Backyard; the concerts are so loud that they shake the walls and windows in my building. These concerts are scheduled during traditional Monday - Friday business hours (making it a challenge for those working from home), as well as late into the night. Shame on the Cultural Trust for failing to consider the impact of its decisions on its neighbors. read more

I had such a fun time seeing Cruel Intentions at the Byham Theatre! This was my first time attending a show here and as it is obviously a smaller venue that the benedum, I can say it is still a very lovely venue. Lines for drinks were quite long so we weren't able to get one. I think they could expand in that department. We had complimentary yelp tickets and a great view, which was awesome! The show was full of amazing 90s songs and being a 90s kid, I loved every second of it. It was full of great singing, comedy, and raunchiness (just like the movie!) The stage didn't use as many props as I thought they could have, but other than that we really enjoyed our night at the theatre. I would come back to see another show here for sure! read more

They consistently bring in top-notch and highly sought-after productions at affordable prices and the experience is comparable to those on Broadway or the West End! Let's begin with WOW!! I've been very impressed with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and everything that it has to offer. I've been to a few of the broadway shows and have been blown away with each one of them. If you're not a broadway fan, please do yourself a favor and go watch at least one. They do a great job at organizing it and putting a great show! The Lion King has been by far one of my favorite ones. Some of the shows that I attended were at the Benedum Center which is one of the nicer theaters around Pittsburgh. This theater is very spacious and the most important part is that they're so efficient in the ladies bathroom line which could be frustrating most of the time while you're trying to rush back during intermission. There is also always a gift shop as soon as you enter the theater which is convenient for souvenirs. Don't forget that you can buy drinks at almost every level!! The performances are just spectacular! From the orchestra playing to the costumes and actors! It always leaves me excited to see what the next show is going to be!! read more

Ordered season tickets for their Broadway series. As a season ticket holder, I assumed (wrongly as it turns out) that you would get premium seating. Definitely not the case. I would recommend not buying season tickets and getting your tickets from a third party vendor, as they clearly have been afforded the best seats. What a treat that my first month back in Pittsburgh after moving back from Atl to see the 90's Cruel Intentions musical. The cast was an ensemble of incredibly talented actors and actresses. Seats: We sat in row T (second from the back), center section, Orchestra. We still had a great view of the stage without obstruction and the sound as adequate. Show itself: Congrats to such a talented crew! Drinks and Refreshments: Yes, the line was long, but one got through quite expediently. If you get a refreshment, there is a $4 charge for a refillable Cultural Trust sippy cup; get that as there are plenty of events to take it to throughout the season. I ordered tickets for a show and they were supposed to be mailed to me. I never got them so I called customer service and the customer service against had an attitude from the start. I asked her what the protocol is for securing my tickets and she said, "idk I didn't order your tickets" with an attitude. I am someone who is terrified of calling customer service because I'm afraid of being a burden so I was sad when the customer service agent treated me so poorly when all I asked was how I can get my tickets. When we did get to the show, the person checking bags told me and my partner that we cannot bring in the reusable cups that we got from the theater. I later checked with management and we are allowed to bring the reusable cups from the theater to every show we watch to have them filled up as a "Patron perk" type thing. My partner had to run 10 blocks to put the cups in the car and we were late for seating because it. It left us feeling stressed all because the security person checking bags was either not trained well or was racist (we were the only "Mexican" looking people in the theatre). It's a shame because the productions are great, but the customer service makes me want to never go back and causes me to warn people who are like us to not go. read more

The cultural trust is one of the most important parts of Pittsburgh. Without the cultural trust we would not have so many wonderful art galleries, musicals, operas, plays, and so much more. The trust is spread out through many buildings in the cultural district downtown- but they are all easy to get to and so many, the the Benedum, are extremely beautiful! That the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust took a once sleazy part of Downtown Pittsburgh and transformed it into a bustling center for the arts is enough to warrant a 5 star rating. 20 years ago, I recall avoiding Liberty Avenue as a teenager, worrying that I might be approached by drug or sex peddlers while heading to and from school. Today, Theater Square, The Benedum, The Byham, The Harris, and The O'Reilly (to name a few) have usurped the outlets for peepshows and pornography. As ambivalent as I am towards gentrification (I'll admit to being uneasy about the encroachment of the well-to-do), I'm appreciative of what the PCT has done for this section of our city since the organization's conception in 1984. What prompted me to write a review about the PCT, however, was their sterling customer service. So I forced myself to get some sleep and called their customer service line at 9AM. Without any difficulty, the representative honored the exchange when I explained what I had done, and the following night, we picked up the tickets at the venue's Will Call window. The teller didn't even ask to see my ID or credit card. Our weekend had been rescued from certain disaster. Try doing that with Ticketmaster. With apologies to the late, legendary pro wrestler Buddy Rogers, it's class that counts, and it's written all over The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. read more

I attended the Lion King yesterday. The line was long however we got in pretty quickly. I was amazed how quickly they moved the line and security check, TSA should def learn from them. Went to see 90's Cruel Intentions at the Byham. I have to say sadly this was our first time in the theater. We've been to the others. It's smaller than the others, and felt cozy. We had great seats - Orchestra. For a small theater - the music and singing was very loud. Sometimes it was hard to make out what they were singing. The cast is extremely talented. What great voices. The main male character was so expressive - he played the part well. The first half was a little racy - we wondered what we got ourselves in for - but the second half was great!! The show was funny, touched on issues of today - mixed race couples, gay and lesbian. Loved how the songs were woven into the story line. You left feeling like it was a good night. read more

What is the Cultural Trust? Is it really a thriving non-profit arts organization currently reinventing and renewing the downtown Pittsburgh area? Are we to believe that it really is providing opportunities and resources for local artists while showcasing national and international art? Admittedly it is now possible to see the 'Blue Man Group' and the 'Australian Pink Floyd' or to sit in on 'Shrek the Musical' where once there had been countless strip-clubs and adult bookstores. So yes, in part the invisible members of the 'Trust' can now pat themselves on the back. Downtown Pittsburgh has become a safe place for throngs of sated suburbanites to recreate or be wowed by the empty spectacle and fun-house exhibitions at Wood st. Galleries. But what is the cost, financially and culturally, to the city of Pittsburgh? What lurks beneath the cultural homogeneity and unambitious programming which has 're-branded' Liberty ave. as 'The Cultural District'? Who are the members of the 'Trust' and are we to believe that an organization that lacks transparency has an agenda that puts the Arts first? The 'Cultural Trust' is unfortunately using the pretense of Art to further an agenda that is entirely motivated by profit . What many people may not know, but certainly should, is that the 'Trust' in reality, is nothing more than a massive property holding company. According to an article in the Post Gazette, "While many people view the trust as an arts group, Ms. Corpuz said, its work -- spelled out in its bylaws -- includes real-estate development and encouraging business growth in the district." What is troubling, is that they are using their lackluster cultural programming to justify tax avoidance. It is alleged by the same article that "city officials say the trust shouldn't get an exemption for properties it's just sitting on. "The properties are not being used for a charitable purpose, and they would not be eligible for a tax exemption," city solicitor Daniel Regan said. At stake are about $68,000 in annual real-estate taxes to the city, Pittsburgh Public Schools and Allegheny County. The unintended and unfortunate result is that most of these properties, and they abound, are left unused and vacant. I've been to quite a few performances put on by The PCT, most recently "Disney's The Lion King", which is touring through the city for the next 25 days. The venue staff were great as always; ticket and security lines moved quickly and the theater staff were helpful in pointing out where the restrooms/bars were located. The performance itself was phenomenal, this show never lets up on the energy. The costumes are arguably still the best in a modern broadway show, even being 22 years old. Nothing beats seeing a top performance in one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in Pittsburgh. There isn't a "bad" seat in the house. The lower levels are slightly elevated so even shorter people have an unobstructed view of the stage. The sound and acoustics carry well also. Shows like The Lion King are a great way to introduce kids to broadway performances; this show particularly is a work of art. I highly urge you to check it out! read more
