Locals eat here! The building looks like a Pizza Hut from the 80's, and isn't much to look at, but this is a well known gem. The sandwiches are fantastic. They come out of the oven crusty and hot, and are brushed with a butter sauce. Locals know the best sandwich is the Muffuletta. The olive salad is homemade. This is my second time getting toe roast beef with gravy! I absolutely love it-- but you want to eat it in one setting. The gravy won't make it that great the next day. It's served with chips! This place has awesome sandwiches and pasta!!! They have one of the best roast beef po boys I've ever had anywhere and I love the stromboli, and the turkey too. The pastas always hit the spot and the spaghetti, the ravioli, and the lasagna just make me happy in my belly! This is also one of the few places outside of New Orleans that I've ever seen that you can get a pretty authentic tasting muffuletta and they ship all their bread in direct from NOLA (and they use good olive salad) so that certainly works in their favor. I'm really sad they moved from their original location and the new location is a real pain to get to as it is waaaay too far from the square now :( I've brought many of my friends from New Orleans and they also agree that these are some amazing po boys!!! Been coming to Pizza Den for over 30 years. The food is just as good today as it was when I was a weekly regular during college. The stromboli and roast beef and gravy sandwiches are my favorites. The location may have changed, but they have done a nice job of maintaining the feel of the original. Pizza Den is a local institution. read more

They aren't an upscale establishment. Never have been, but I've loved their sandwiches since a student at Ole Miss back in the late 70's. Always make it a point to stop whenever I'm in town. The restaurant was very dark. People were having to use their phones in order to see. There is a surcharge of 3.95% (advertised as a cash discount) for using a card instead of cash. However, "every business in town is doing it" (not true). I ordered the Stromboli which ended up being a tasteless sub sandwich with ground up meat. One of the hidden gems of Oxford. Small place away from the square that is rarely crowded. It is home of the most delicious Stromboli. If you've never had it, stromboli is a kind of pizza sandwich. I guess you could call it a variant of a calzone. Stromboli is also a very fun word to say. Pizza Den is an Oxford institution which is now run by the children of the originator. I don't get the pizzas myself, though; I am a fan of the hot roast beef sandwich and the stromboli. Get half and half; it's heaven. They make the sandwiches on real French bread with good quality meats and cheeses, and where applicable excellent gravy, and then bake them in the pizza oven! They are salty and delectable and served with Lay's potato chips. They also have a good muffaletta and a good roast turkey with gravy. I tend to be quite hard on restaurants, but Pizza Den is a staple for me. My favorite is their pasta. I go for spaghetti and lasagna with side salads. I've had the pizza and a few tastes of their sandwiches. I have yet to find a problem with taste. I thought the pizza was great. Crispy thin crust and awesome tasting toppings. I love their meat sauce for the pasta. The salad is obviously store bought products but the homemade bleu cheese dressing makes it worth it. I have tasted the stromboli, turkey, ham and roast beef sandwiches. I only found a problem with the turkey and that was that the gravy was way too salty. Couldn't finish it. Sandwich stolen in front of their eyes after 1 1/2 hour wait - should "have gotten there earlier I guess" says the inept cashier. Full story below: So I frequent Pizza Den at least once a week and usually ignore their terrible, non-professional, defensive, loud-mouthed, talking-about-the-customer-while-the-customer-is-waiting service. But tonight was the last. In fact, I will actively campaign against them when people ask where to eat in this town full of restaurants, offering plenty of stories to keep them at bay. I ordered waaaay early tonight knowing they'd be busy. Only a simple Stromboli add olives and mushrooms. But before I even ordered the man (I assume the owner, since I've been going for so long) told me "It'd be at least an hour, hour and a half." "I'll be there in an hour and a half" I said, compensating for their typically lousy service. I show up an hour and a half later, on foot, and they tell me MY SANDWICH HAD BEEN STOLEN! RIGHT OFF THE F***ING COUNTER IN FRONT OF THEM! WOW! I told them how upset I was and they acted like it happened a lot. They asked if I wanted to re-f***ing-order!?! Their food is good, so I asked what kinda deal could get them out of the worst review in history. They failed: half price, thrown-together, half-toasted Stromboli with ANOTHER 10 min wait. As I finally got my sandwich I once again told the cashier that the guy on the phone told me at least an hour. She told me, and I kid you not, that maybe I should have come sooner and my sandwich wouldn't have been stolen...(!)
