I didn't want to eat at the restaurant so I ordered takeout and they were perfectly fine with it. Everyone there was friendly and greeted me. They explained the menu to me and gave me ample time to make my selections. I ended up ordering the chicken Katsu poutine, the halloumi fries, garlic Mayo sauce, and a drink. Within less than 10 minutes, my order was ready. I brought it back to the hotel and enjoyed every single bite. This is a must try place when in town. Keep in mind their portions are very generous. I had leftovers for the next day.

Dimly lit and getting darker as the night goes on, with staff welcoming you like an old friend and an impeccable music selection. - No, seriously, did you hack my Spotify, Montpeliers? It's all so effortless and fun, and above all, done very well. I am happy to indulge. My spicy mango sour did the trick. I sometimes like to ask for a recommendation when I can't decide and Iona's tip was spot on. The cocktail menu is extensive; there's something for all tastes. This was delicious. - Not too spicy, not too sweet. Followed up by the cherry nuts shot with black cherry rum and amaretto. This cherry-lover approves and this served as a dessert to round the night off to a better end. Was it okay that they had run out of shot glasses and opted for a short cocktail glass and also topped it with a tonne of cream? Umm, YES. No disappointment here. Service was attentive despite the bar overflowing on a Friday night. This was just what we were after and is a wonderful spot for a drink. You'd be missing out if you didn't have a cocktail. If you're not drinking, there's an interesting selection of mocktails too. Cheers, Montpeliers! - You know just how it's done.

The cafe was an adorable old house turned into a cafe and we got a seat near the back looking over the garden in the back of the space. It was really nice. My wife got the seasonal eggs Benedict and I got the peas a la salt. The Bennedict was good, but seemed like it was missing something. My best guess is that it's just the English muffin wasn't as sturdy as I'm used to and I'm used to it that way. The peas a la salt came over sourdough bread with bacon, black pudding and a poached egg. Same as the Bennedict, it was all yummy, but not amazing. The peas were very far from mushy (which is good), but maybe could have been a bit firmer. Things just didn't quite come together the way I would have hoped.

Our choices were truly delicious. We started with the fish board, olives, and mushroom skewer. We loved them all. I enjoyed the cod main dish, while my wife finished the starters. We didn't want to overeat, so we decided to share a starter and a main. We got the Scottish venison fritters, which were ok. We enjoyed the pappardelle pasta (roast pumpkin and pecorino sauce, wild mushrooms, spinach, bacon and poppy seed crumb, crispy sage). It was flavorful and didn't feel too heavy. Staff were friendly and it was an enjoyable lunch.

The problem comes in the form of spotty service from the staff. Most members of the staff are really kind and helpful, providing top notch service, however just like the saying goes, bad apples truly ruin the bunch. On our last visit, our server Ana seemed like she had no care in the world for any of her customers, acting in a very rude manner for the entirety of the dining experience. Most of the time she just flat out ignored us leaving us sitting around wondering when we would be helped. TL;DR If you're willing to overlook the relatively spotty service that seriously needs to be addressed by management in the form of proper hiring and training practices, the food here is quite tasty!
