My dad and I stayed at the Plum House. It was my elderly father's first time in a B and B type lodging. He was very comfortable in his room with a bathroom. My room was elegant and the small kitchen upstairs we had to ourselves and privacy was wonderful. Jayne was welcoming and is an experienced host. There is a working television in each room. She has tons of snacks and breakfast items for you to use. The soaps, and plush towels were stacked in each room. My room had a sink inside too. There is a small private parking area behind the house. It's a close drive to the main drag. There are movies and things to read and a wonderful porch to sit on. I am happy Elwood doesn't have any hotels, I'd prefer to stay there and my father was very impressed. We ate at the Tin Cup and Opera House, which are good restaurants.

What a GREAT place to stay!

The owners have converted this 1900s farmhouse into a beautiful, modern b&b. There are 4 rooms total, each with their own private bathroom. All of the rooms are newly remodeled and just gorgeous. We stayed in the "North Room," which is the first room (all rooms are upstairs on the 2nd level) at the top of the stairs. It has a very comfy queen bed and ample space. My favorite feature is the clawfoot tub, a bath bomb was even included for those wanting a bath. The owners live on the 3rd floor so are always available. Visiting during Covid, we had a very safe stay as well. We got to choose our breakfast time and were served a grand breakfast to ourselves in the dining room. A breakfast-in-bed delivery option as well. Karen made a feast of a breakfast (French toast, eggs, bacon, fruit, and Tinker coffee!). Breakfast is included with the cost of room (which is very affordable!).

Don't know who Cole Porter is??never fear, the Miami Museum is a short walk and $3 suggested donation away and they can school u on all things Cole. Very spacious with lovely furniture and decor. It's probably the antique-est of the three suites in the house. The Cole Porter Suite has a living room, a little kitchenette, a queen bed in the main area, a second bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom, and a sunroom (I've included pictures). The only thing that was a pinch awkward was the hand shower in the bathtub (and no shower curtain). Some antique charm that was definitely a new experience for us, but we figured it out! We were able to contact the proprietor as soon as we arrived, and he instructed us how to get to our room. We could come and go as we pleased. The only down side was feeling a little distant from him should we need things like extra towels, but he was very nice, and I'm sure he would have come running if we'd had a need. No breakfast is included with your stay at the inn, but the kitchenette has a sink, microwave, coffee maker, and coffee, or Peru has a few local breakfast places that will fit the bill (we liked Aroma downtown for coffee and donuts, or go down U.S. 31 about 15 minutes to Dutch Cafe for a hearty breakfast). The inn was also an easy walk to a few local restaurants for dinner, of which I recommend Club 14 and Voodoo Public House. The neighborhood is filled with historic homes of all shapes and sizes, so even just a walk (or drive!) drive around the neighborhoods in that vicinity was great entertainment. We didn't use the TV while we were there, so I guess my only other complaint would be the Wi-Fi. It's free, which is great, but we barely had a signal, so the router must be pretty far from our upstairs room. So if you need to get work done or have amazing internet access, you won't really get it here (at least not upstairs). But if you want a beautiful place to relax and a home base to check out what Northern Indiana has to offer, this is a great one!

Upon arriving at this conveniently located b&b (just a few minutes drive away from IWU), John and LeRoy immediately welcomed us into their home with warm hospitality, making sure that we had all the essentials and amenities necessary to have a comfortable stay (e.g. Wi-fi password, information about the house, extra blankets, etc.). We were made to feel like royalty by the several high-class amenities offered at the Inn including, specialty chocolates in the room, plush bathrobes, an assortment of magazines to read while in bed, and bubble bath for the jacuzzi tub. The special touches extended into each morning, too. We were treated to delicious breakfasts each morning set with a beautiful tablescape (and yes, as some one who loves to host herself, I noticed and appreciated that the dishes and flatware were different each morning). It is in the dining room that you are most able to appreciate the care and attention that the owners have put into preserving the history and integrity of their century old home. Beyond the tasty meal and beautiful view from the dining room, it was also our hosts' hospitality that put us at ease when we aren't normally used to eating with other guests whom we don't know; John broke the ice by conversing with the guests, telling us stories about the area, and providing entertainment suggestions when asked. We had a wonderful time and if ever in the area, we will certainly stay again; and we exhort you to do the same.

However, it was booked, so we had two options of where to stay: Schug House or a hotel. The hotel is newer and was $70+ and Schug House was historic and cost around $45. We thought it would be charming and a great value, and that's what we got! When I made the reservation, the owner was really friendly and helpful. She even gave us permission to invite the grandparents to breakfast! Without charging us! We didn't know what time of night we'd get in, so she said she'd leave directions on the door. We didn't have to worry about being locked out. We found our room, which was full of antiques. The bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean. Most B&Bs don't have spacious rooms because they are in old homes, and this was no exception. But it was just fine for the two of us. We loved the room. The only thing that we didn't like was the window air conditioning, again a throwback to the historic building. It was a little noisy. But the inn was pretty quiet overall. We didn't hear the neighbors. The breakfast was really good! I wasn't expecting that much because we were told that it was fruit, cheese and 3 types of baked goods. It was very filling though. We started with a fruit cup. The baked goods were croissants, a breakfast bread (not sure of the kind), and coffee cake. Fresh and delicious. There was OJ, juice and tea. Also, cereal. The cheese was also yummy. I had a lot of it! Ha! They eat family style here, so be ready to mingle with other guests. Breakfast is served until 10, which is nice if you want to sleep in. Did I mention the great price of this place? I'm still surprised for what we got!! If you're looking for a charming place with friendly owners & workers and a yummy breakfast, make a reservation! My fiance's family said they are going to stay here now whenever they visit because it's not much more than the guest room at the retirement community and has much more charm plus breakfast. We definitely will stay there next year on our annual visit as well!
