What's up: My sister-in-law set up a surprise activity day here to celebrate my birthday. She swears that adults do this too but we were surrounded by kids the entire time lol. Parking: We parked at the Park & Walk - Schoolhouse Garage, which was the closest to the plushie workshop. It is $1 for the first 2 hours. Be sure to pay at the machines before you return to your car so you can (kinda) leave the garage faster. Environment: Once we arrived at the location, we had to call the phone number listed to inform them that we arrived. Someone will open the door and show you downstairs to the workshop. We pick the animal that we want to make and a staff member will set you up at their knitting machine. Instructions are provided as you progress in creating your plushie. The yarn is very forgiving so if you make an oopsie, the staff member will be able to help you fix or correct it. Then we get to stuff the plushie as much as we want to get that perfect hug/squish factor. The plush gets sealed up and we get to thread our final touches. What was ordered: - Chick Plushie Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. This was an interesting experience. I can say that this is the first plushie I've made by hand. Staff members are ready to help out! Credit cards are accepted.

This was so fun!! As a bunch of 30-40 year olds we were surprised at how fun this was. Bring your girlfriends, daughters, sisters, and all your loved ones to struggle with fun together!! We easily booked our classes on their site. There was 4 of us and we each had to sign up for admission. You get to pick your animal, color, and accessories right when you book so be ready. We even added extra accessories in store and it was totally fine to pay additional when you're done, but highly recommend picking accessories ahead of time because they have a team that makes your accessory by hand days before. The place had a small door to enter through from the street. You have to call them to have them open the door. Then you walk down this staircase and see a small studio. It was super cute being all white and made the plushies stand out. There are different stations you do together and with the help of the staff. They set you up at each and give you clear directions on how to build your plushie. They are only feet away if you ever have issues or need help which happened a lot actually so glad they were on hand to help answer questions and save us when the war got stuck. Not an easy crafting activity by any means, it requires you to pay attention to where you are catching yarn and sticking needles but it was well worth the short breakdown moments. The total activity took about 2 hours and they don't allow any outside food or drink inside. You can bring a water bottle but thats it. The staff was fantastic. These girls were so patient and have so much experience. They did a lot of work keeping our plushies from dying before they even came alive. Please make sure you tip the girls when you leave because they do so much to make our plushie as cute as possible. So many customization elements throughout including where you put ears and noses. Super cute! My girlfriends and I had the best time and made awesome memories struggling to make our cute plushies. I especially had fun stuffing them and making them into the shape I want. I made a yellow bunny which was the 1st of its kind according to the staff so I felt like mine was extra unique. They have a ton of options combos for animals colors and accessories so have fun picking. Quality of the plushie itself was awesome. I have mine living on my couch and it's held up so well. Super soft and just adorable to look at. Definitely a place you can have a fun get together with your friends and family and everyone will enjoy it.

This is such a fun experience. I chose to knit the unicorn which is a very light pink. The horn is already crocheted so once the body is completed and stuffed, you get to sew it on the area you desire. The eyes, cheeks, mouth, and ears are the same. So, if you want an unconventional/silly plushie, go for it! The other crocheted items like the boba, ice cream cones, bows, or flowers are additional and vary in price. They're such cute additions to your plushie! The instructors are very helpful and walk you through each step. If you get stuck or make a mistake, they can easily fix it. I think I'm going to bring my niece here for her 7th birthday since 7 is the youngest that can attend.

We reserved Plushumi as a couples activity for a friend's birthday and had an amazing time! Although it seems fitting for just kids, Plushumi was very therapeutic for us. The plushie workshop is very hands on and perfect for an afternoon downtime activity. It's a great date idea and you leave with super cute pals. Christina helped us throughout the process and was so nice and amazing to work with. She guided us throughout the process and made this experience a day to remember. Everyone was very nice as well and stopped by to check out our creation. Definitely recommend! Great for kids7+ and can host multiple groups.

Such a fun and unique experience! My friend and I joined the 2-hour plushie workshop and each got to make our own plushie from start to finish. The instructors were incredibly patient, helpful, and made the whole process easy to follow, even if you've never sewn before. The workshop was well-paced, and it was so rewarding seeing our plushies come to life. The atmosphere was cozy, creative, and perfect for a fun date, girls' day, or family activity. We had an amazing time and left with two adorable handmade plushies and great memories. What a wonderful and unique experience. It was my friend's birthday . We all made different plushies . The two ladies who helped us were amazing. They were patient and helpful . It was comfortable and clean. They also had cute accessories to pick after .

We had our 10 year olds daughter's birthday party here. The girls had so much fun making and customizing their plushies. The workshop helpers assisted the girls during the harder steps like sewing on ears and accessories. Great place to have a stress free party and the birthday girl loved it.

We were in the area for the weekend, and I wanted to find something fun and unique for my daughter and me to do together. I stumbled upon Plushumi on Yelp and managed to book the last available appointment for the next few days -- so I was pretty excited! Just a heads-up: Plushumi is located in the basement of the building, so you won't easily see a sign from the street. Once we found it, though, we immediately felt welcomed. The two ladies working there were incredibly sweet, patient, and helpful. They explained everything clearly, gave examples, and were always available if we needed any assistance. The first part of our appointment was smooth, relaxing, and genuinely fun. As later appointment times started arriving, I noticed some people came without reservations, which created a bit of a rushed environment. The staff stayed kind, gracious, and attentive throughout, but you could tell they were understandably overwhelmed trying to accommodate everyone. Overall, we had an amazing time. We left with the cutest plushies and added accessories at the end. It was such a sweet bonding experience and a perfect activity for quality time with someone you love. I highly recommend Plushumi and would absolutely return.

Went to Plushumi to celebrate our friend's birthday. I made a build a bear for my girlfriend years ago before and this experience was much more hands on and very customizable. You pick the color and what kind of animal you'd like from their sets. Whole experience was about 2 hours. The process was straightforward and simple with some sewing parts but the staff are friendly and accommodating to help you out. Christina was very helpful! Overall great experience and you leave with a new friend! I ended up doing a Beige dog. The add ons are the items your animal could appear to be holding. Those are additional.

Despite having done crafting workshops before, I had never experienced anything like this. I messed up a couple of times, but thankfully, the staff was able to save my plushie! The workshop is definitely beginner-friendly. It might be a bit tough to get reservations, but keep checking the website! Also, when you arrive, you will need to call the number on the door to be let in as the building is locked. Once you're greeted, you will sign a waiver then put on your apron. You can choose what type of animal your plushie will be. My partner and I made a dog and a chinchilla. You can give your plushie a lot of personality with facial accessories and other add-ons to make it unique. We both added bows to our creations, and his chinchilla ended up looking like a fancy rat! Our plushies turned out super cute and soft. While the workshop is a bit pricey, I feel like it was worth it due to the attentive and helpful staff. I would definitely go again. read more

This was a surprise date that I ended up loving and having so much fun at! The 3 girls who were working were all incredibly friendly and helpful. They were actively looking to make sure anyone who had issues was getting help and they also did a great job at explaining the steps. The workshop itself was also very well lit, lots of "stations" for others to work on, and also big mirrors for photo ops! I had a lot of fun here and would recommend for a cute date or activity! One thing to note is that to find the location it's somewhat hidden. They have a sign on the side of the door you can only see from one side of the street. Also, to get inside you do need to call them and they'll unlock the door. Not a big deal but important to take note of! read more

My friend came to visit and wanted to make our own plushie. We couldn't make a reservation online because we waited too long, but the team was able to squeeze us in last minute when we reached out via email! I've never done anything like this before and obviously my impatient self messed up a couple of times and the staff was able to save my plushie, phew. You can choose what type of animal your plushie is going to be. You can choose what type of animal your plushie is going to be. Even if you choose the same animal, you can still add a lot of personality and unique qualities to your plushies. For example, for some reason my plushie wanted to be round and chub as I was stuffing it. So my friend's plushie came out to this tall cat and my was a chubby dog. They were so cute together. You can also add a bunch of different accessory on it to make it your own. My friend and I both added a boba to ours because we love boba. Our plushies were replicates of us essentially. While we were there, we also met another group that was doing this as a family activity. It was so cute, they had so much fun and laughter. I would highly recommend family to come here as a family activity. You'll be able to share memories and something to take home together. Honestly, I'm glad my friend found this and I had a lot more fun than I thought I would. . read more

Perfect place to spend some time with your friend and I'm glad I spent it with one of my girlfriends. I feel it's healthier than going for boba / desserts because we actually made something and proud of it lol. The staff are so helpful with every step of the way because we literally had no clue what was going on lol. The downside is that you can't really choose face parts variety because each animal/character has its own uniqueness. It's located in the middle of the great Old Pas. Parking is in the building like usual. Appointment is very much necessary , I don't think they allow walk ins. read more

Found this place on TikTok and it looked so fun! My friend is getting married and loves arts and crafts so we decided to do this as part of her bachelorette party. Parking is either street or you can park at the school house garage on Green St which is a close walk away. Very easy to book online and you'll have to specify the color and animal you want to make ahead of time. The whole workshop was about 2 hours and the employees alternated around helping you with everything and were super friendly. We had a great time with the crank to make the "body" and then stuffing it with filling and making the final touches depending on the one you picked. It's super soft and you get to pick optional accessories for extra $$ if you want. They even had a veil and tiara available for my friend who was getting married. I'm already planning to do it again. DISCLAIMER: I give this whole activity 4-5 stars for the experience, but due to the price and quality, I had to drop it down to 3. Parking: It's in Old Town Pasadena, so give yourself at least 10-15 minutes to park and walk over. I took my niece here. At the time, a basic plushie cost about $65 each. I really enjoyed how interactive the activity was and how attentive the staff were. They seat you at a wheel and explain how the machine works. After that, you're left to your own devices, but if you have any issues, the staff are quick to help. Everyone was super kind and knowledgeable. Once the body is done, you move to a table to set up the face and add stuffing. It was a really fun experience overall, but they constantly remind you that the yarn is very fragile. So honestly, for some cheap yarn and stuffing... it's a VERY OVERPRICED activity. I'd recommend it as a one-and-done, unless they drop the price to around $20-30. I wouldn't come back, but I do recommend it to people who love plushies and crafting. read more

What a fun way to spend an evening! Jasmine and Winnie were incredibly helpful and assisted us in building the plushies of our dreams . It takes some coordination, but the process overall is quite engaging. PARKING: Shared lot south of the location. ENTRANCE: Look for the storefront a few doors down from Blue bottle. You'll call them for access. Looking forward to coming back and building more plushies. :D read more

Firstly, signing-up on the website was very easy and had all the information I needed to know before attending the booking. The pricing is also at a good value! Walking into the space, it was so cute and comfy. Jasmine, the person helping me in this experience, was also super nice and welcoming. She guided me through the entire plush making process very kindly and she was very patient with me which I appreciated. She also made sure to explain everything clearly and made it easy to understand. I loved the materials and tools I was working with! It was really fun to learn how to make a plush from scratch. Now I've never knitted before in my life, but with the help of their custom knitting devices, you're able to make these plushies in under 2 hours! My girls had a great time making their plushies. It was a unique and memorable experience. The employees were helpful. The only downside was that we had to let them know ahead of time (a few days prior) which plushie animal & which color each person was going to make. I came in as a part of a birthday party for my friend! It was super fun and made me feel like I could knit and crochet. (I do neither.) You get the option to make a dinosaur, chinchilla, puppy, unicorn, bear, bunny, cat, or chick. They're so adorable and a lot bigger than I was expecting! I personally made a blue unicorn, and got to add accessories, which I opted for a tiara. I came to this workshop for a girl's day out. I booked online but got really sick the day before our session and they were really accommodating with rescheduling. They're in a downstairs studio area and the class was a little bigger than I expected. We first signed waivers and then were guided to these crochet looms where you start making the base of the plushie. My threads kept coming undone but staff was really helpful and patient with me. After the bottom half was complete, we went back to the tables and started stuffing our half made plushies with fluff. You get to choose where the eyes, nose, and whiskers go and can even pay extra for accessories. The staff made the entire process very doable even though we struggled a bit at times. Overall a fun experience that I'd recommend for a fun little evening activity! read more

This is a great place for birthday parties! My daughter celebrated her 10th birthday here with friends and it was such a fun experience. They took the entire 3 hours creating a plushy from looms to stuffing to accessories and while staff put on the finishing touches to the plushies, we got to open gifts and serve the cake. I just randomly found this place out for our anniversary. Thought it was difficult at first since it's wool kinda, but pretty easy afterward. The staffs help you out as well as fix the stuff. On the day of our reservation, we were running a bit late, but a quick call to the shop was met with understanding from a young lady on the phone. Thankfully, we arrived with time to spare and were warmly greeted by Sicily. While the location could be easily missed, prior reviews had prepared me, making it an easy find. I didn't book a slot for myself, so I relaxed in the small waiting area outside, able to peek in and watch the girls begin their creative process. My daughter and her friend had an absolute blast making their plushies! They took tons of photos inside, clearly enjoying every moment. They did mention wishing they could have made their own accessories, though they understood that having them pre-made was helpful for the overall experience. They keep deleting my reviews but the manager jasmine is rude. The other workers were nice besides Jasmine. I worked here for 1 day. They don't give any training and expect you to know everything and get annoyed when you make mistakes but it's bound to happen with no training. The manager jasmine made several remarks to me that made me uncomfortable and the tone is very condescending. If you are looking to shop here you are better off making the plushie yourself for cheaper. The yarn is cheap and breaks easily and you can make 50 of the accessories at home for the cost of one. read more

At the recommendation of his teacher at his elementary school, my son recently submitted a portfolio and completed a supervised exam to be considered for entry into a respected conservatory for students who show promise in the visual arts- this conservatory hosts this admission process once a year, so it's a big deal and there are a TON of kids and it's very competitive. The exam portion includes completing a still life and a free draw, both supervised. My son passed and is now under consideration. It's true he has some God-given talent and drive, but we could not have given our son the guidance that Art/Work/Place provided, and he had been attending this studio for about six/seven months by the time he submitted his portfolio. We actually didn't even tell Art/Work/Place or Ms Billy that our son was going to be doing this or submitting any kind of portfolio, so whatever they taught him they were teaching to other students and without prejudice. He went from drawing quirky and funny pictures at home to composing quite beautiful and sophisticated still life pieces, and I have been so impressed by how much more motivated my son is to really create on his own. Bottom line, my son loves this studio, it's one of his safe spaces, and Ms Billy has been so encouraging and so kind and enthusiastic, and she was so proud to hear about our son's accomplishment. Right now we just want to see how far he will go here. We really appreciate all they do.

Celebrated our daughter's 12th birthday here with some of her closest friends…read more Emily walked me through the plan of an art journaling/collage making with this age group. She was a fantastic art guide for the children- she encouraged collaboration and open thinking, joy and whimsy! Love how the class was all about connection and process rather than cookie cutter pieces. Looking forward to taking a class there myself for me and my friends. Such a gem in South Pasadena…read more A group of mom friends and I did the Thursday art journaling class and it was so much fun! It was so nice to be able to show up and be instructed. We were able to tap into our creativity and have a fun time. Emily, the owner had wine and snacks and explained everything in detail so you didn't need to have any experience. There was a group of ladies that seemed to be regulars and it very much created a community vibe. And the best part at the end is there was very little cleanup. I can't wait to come back during the day when the shop is open in the front and browse for some gifts.

I helped coordinate logistics with our PTA and Mike - the entire process was incredibly smooth and easy. Coordinating with Mike was awesome, fast, prompt, attentive. Had an answer for any and every question, got all the paperwork together in a timely matter. They set everything up, have their own cast of fun and entertaining actors. I had a wildly bizarre interaction with Purple Twig owner Samara. We missed the first class in a…read morenew series due to incorrect communication about start dates from the studio; I asked for a make-up class or refund, she refused (citing studio policy), and I said fine, but that that seemed like poor customer service given the error on her part. We had attended the second class (thinking it was the first), and at that class the teacher clearly stated that only three students showed up at class one; I also heard another parent say she didn't know the session had started the previous week, either. Yet then, Samara apparently discussed this with the teacher, then came back to me via email and wrote: "I was disappointed that you knowingly and falsely implied that other families were also misled in the start date so you could get a refund." She continued on to say that my family was not a good fit for her studio, and essentially booted us from classes. Is this not an insane way to do business? I had already told her that I would accept no refund or make-up class, and yet she pushed the issue, all over email. She must hide behind some really nice teachers. I will not be recommending her studio to anyone.

We asked purple twig to help come up with an activity to keep 7 kids entertained in the backyard. Samara suggested a build your own fairy garden pack. Which was perfect for 7/8 yr old girls (my 6 yr old boy also loved it). She supplied really helpful instructions which ensured the activity lasted for over an hour and the girls were all super focused - and very proud of their creations. A great birthday party. Thanks!
