Waited ten minutes to order a single beer, then waited at least 30 minutes for my food. Waitress came and said "the computer froze" and my order didn't go through. She Couldn't express my order, so that was it. She did comp the beer, which was in her favor, so kudos for that. Friends and I went over ystrdy and ordered a few things - Fried Fish Sandwich, Fish and Chips, Pulled Pork and the Ribs & fries. Fish and chips were a disappointment, not your typical New England Fish and Chips -- it almost just tasted the same as the Fried Fish Sandwich; the sandwich was much better. Fried Fish Sandwich and pulled pork sandwich was pretty decent, a good combination of sauces and buttered bread! Ribs were definitely a bang for your buck! It's a whole rack + fries just at the price of $18 -- very worth it as compared to the other dishes we've ordered. Felt like the meat could've been marinated a little long bc the flavor didn't fully get into the meat but otherwise, twas the best dish of all. Food aside, the music from the speakers were super loud but they had live performances (a nice touch in my opinion! enjoyed that). There was a lady server whom we thought was super rude, shouted at us when we had no idea if we were supposed to look for a table ourselves/ we would be allocated one (directions were unclear when we stepped foot into the pub restaurant) -- like I understand maybe it was busy and she looked like she was one of the only 2 servers but it put a slight bitter first impression on us :-( The guy who later served us was really nice and made the whole experience much better :-) read more

A truly bizarre and violently run bar. I had visited six years ago and vowed never to return, but the spot was empty and looked inviting (it does have a beautiful inviting facade). The staff was upset due to a snowstorm and had no customers! The spot is poorly managed as I had no service and saw no staff for 15 minutes (i asked about it amd was asked to leave) the food was cold per the few customers around me, they where bashing their ownership and the staff from the night before for not cleaning nor setting up prior. The Point donated the upstairs space and a lot of food for my event. They went above and beyond to make sure I didn't need to worry about anything besides my guests. One rainy Monday evening, we ran around the corner by Boston Public Market and found the entrance to The Point. A ground floor bar with high top tables, a single lady was slinging drinks. We settled ourselves at a table for two and after a bit, obtained a menu from a couple seated at the bar. We mulled over the food options before settling upon the fish tacos and one of their pizzas. I wasn't sure how service would be handled in such an environment so I checked in with the bartender. Five minutes after, she came around to take our order. Fifteen minutes, and our food arrived. Fried Haddock Tacos $11.95 Fresh warm tortillas with lettuce, Monterey Jack & cheddar cheeses, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and garlic aioli John Hancock Chicken Pesto Pizza $10.95 Breaded chicken tenders, roasted red peppers, melted cheese and pesto sauce The pizza was thin and somewhat larger than a personal size pie. The chicken did not come breaded despite the branding. My DC had assumed that pesto would replace the normal red sauce spread out on the pizza crust, but instead it was drizzled on top. With both crisp and chew, it was satisfactory. We initially was served the chicken taco variant. But the correction was made, and five minutes later the fish tacos arrived. The protein and the portion of the protein was the sole difference. Several slices of chicken vs 1-2 pieces of fried fish fingers nestled in each of three salad filled soft flour tortillas, which helped me to imagine that I was eating healthy. I preferred the crisp fish over the slightly dry white meat chicken. Their fries were great. 3.5 stars *** 9/2018 *** Turns out The Point has an upstairs, and we had our little private social event up there with our own bartender. I have visited the Point several times since I moved to Boston, and let me tell you, it never disappoints. Yesterday, we enjoyed watching the Celtics game, but it is also an excellent spot for live music on the weekends or just enjoying a nice day. The food and drink menu is extensive, and I always know when I bring friends here that there will be something for them. Getting to what makes the Point truly incredible is their staff. I was at The Point with a few close friends earlier this week and we had an amazing experience. The food was great (Buffalo Cauliflowers, Brussel sprouts, and calamari were the favorites). On the leading night of our Boston vacation, we ended up eating our first dinner in the Point. The Point is along the Boston Freedom Trail between Faneuil Hall and Haymarket in the shadow of the Rose Kennedy Greenway and North End off a gray cobblestone alleyway named Marshall Street. The Point is incorporated in a pointed section of a historical building that can be traced to 1795 when the attached Bell In Hand Tavern opened that year. In the heart of this historical district it is also a few cobblestone steps from the Ebenezer House built in 1767. The Point is so rich in history that it seemed more realistic that I could run into Sam Adams instead of drinking a Sam Adams. But it would drink a Sam Adams and picture him in this neighborhood hundreds of years ago. It is fitting that I would have a Sam Adams in the Point. Boston is Sam Adams Country! Additionally, the historical district that is home to the Point is also home to bars that create a happening night-time scene. On the Saturday night we ended up at the Point, the nearby bars and restaurants were packed making it laborious to find a place to sit for dinner and a beer. We just happened to find a vacant table in the Point. And so I was one of hundreds of people enjoying the Boston bar scene on Saturday night. If I didn't chose to enjoy it with a Sam Adams their beer menu features nine other drafts. Leading into my recollection of my dining adventure here, I will pass on the tip that pubs usually serve premium hamburgers. The Point does justice to this tip. I ordered the Haymarket burger with fries and a sliced pickle. This premium hamburger was loaded with lettuce, tomato, cheese, mushrooms, and red onions. It was four stars worthy delicious. With the hamburger, I ate my brother's salad that came with his meal (he does not care for salad). This was a generous sized portion. The menu is more than burgers. It includes sandwiches, pizza, and numerous pub entrees. The menu is a fun read because the categories and some of the food is named after nearby Boston points of interest. Two examples are the salad section is the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the appetizers are the Haymarket starters. We took in the food and beer from a table near the door leading to the cobblestone alleyway. The room, which by the way is the lower of the two floors, was an interesting place to spend time in. The pointed layout is near the bar and across from an area where a band was setting up. From the point the tables also converge. I got the impression that only two people were running the show. They were a young man and woman. They would transition between server, busses, and bartender. Considering how busy it was on a Saturday night, I was impressed by their work ethic. At this point in the Review it is time to stop talking about the Point and get to the point. The point is that the Point is worthy of Four Stars. read more

I want to take a moment to just note that The Point is a quite racist establishment that I would highly discourage Black and other BIPOC folks from attending. They were the starting point for a Onesie Bar Crawl event that I attended, and, at the end of the evening, when a few of us were returning to the space as an ending point before making the journey home, the other folks who were part of the crawl were able to rejoin the venue, but, when me and the other Black man who attended the crawl tried to return, we were informed that we were unwelcome. They told us they had the right to deny entry to anyone they believed was too inebriated, which ... may be true, but my companion and I were not observably inebriated. My companion actually hadn't had anything to drink for a while. I couldn't claim I hadn't had anything at the previous bar, but I can say I was casually sipping chardonnay as I chatted, and right now I am typing this after having driven safely home. Nothing about our behavior as we approached the bar could in any way be construed as demonstrating any problematic level of intoxication - we were just chatting, walking normally, the only thing that could stand out about us being that we were in onesies, because we were part of a themed event. When I asked what was happening, we were just told that we had "been seen drinking at the beginning of the night." And ... ok yeah, we started at that bar, so I had a bit of chardonnay at that bar when I arrived at 4pm, and then we moved to the next bar at 6pm, and by the time we were returning it was past 10pm. They had no information about anything we'd done in the interim, no possible way of knowing whehter we'd been drinking or what we'd had, and, indeed, the bar manager only spoke to us after I requested to speak with him, and would describe absolutely no behavior that we'd exhibited that might give rise to any suspicion that we might be unreasonably intoxicated. He simply informed us that we'd been seen at the bar earlier ... which was true, but that was true of every other person who was part of the Onesie Bar Crawl who had returned to that bar. Long story short, there was literally nothing unique about my companion and I in our return to The Point outside of being the only Black men who were part of the Onesie Crawl. Looking into the bar, we would have likely been the only two Black men in there. The motivation for our exclusion as we reapproached in our goofy but harmless onesies was really quite clear, and we were addressed with deep disrespect and unkindness by the venue manager when we asked to speak with him about the rationale for our exclusion. I don't say this often or lightly. I have had my suspicions sometimes and caught side-eye that I don't just hop online to leap to conclusions about ... but it was pretty clear in this instance. The Point clearly has some racist managers in charge of the space, who have no qualms about dredging up excuses to exclude would-be entrants who they view as "undesirable." I would discourage folks in the BIPOC community from visiting that bar. Management is clearly hostile. I am not sure whether or how far that might be extended to employees, as I did not experience animus from them, but I was treated in a dehumanizing, disrespectful, unreasonable way by venue management. I took some video of my companion and I outside the establishment, but ... I hestitate to just post it immediately. It shows my companion and I standing outside and might demonstrate that I was composed and articulate in the moment, but I realize as I review it that the venue manager would not return to the interaction, so it shows that I'm present and composed, but the individual present with me and my companion outside the venue was just an employee, and, while I make explicitly clear to him in the recording that I don't believe any of this is his fault, as he was only following instructions, absent a specific reason to share the video, I have decided I don't want to post the recording featuring him but not his manager, who was responsible for the problematic decision. That doesn't seem like the right thing to do. But I would definitely discourage people of color from giving patronage to The Point, and I would respectfully request of The Official Onesie Bar Crawl (Boston) that they remove The Point from any future excursions they organize, since apparently any Black men who attend their event would find themselves unwelcome to return to the bar at the end of the evening if they've participated in the event. read more

Was there yesterday as the 1st stop on a bar crawl, they were really nasty while serving us. we were supposed to get a free drink from the Barcrawl and the representative said that it was valid/that the GM at the point knew about it, but when we asked the bartenders for it, they said "I'm not making you that". one of the bartenders was positively miserable. I understand that there may be a miscommunication between the Barcrawl company and the bar itself, but when I asked for one of the specials that the woman from the Barcrawl company told me about, he stormed downstairs and yelled at her, then came upstairs and said "don't listen to her; she doesn't know what she's talking about. that's why we hate hosting Barcrawl's here." icing on the cake was when someone said "Hey it's my friends birthday!!" And he responded with "just fyi: bartenders don't care that it's your birthday". i then went downstairs to inform everyone coming to Check in here to check in but its Not a place that should be supported. Everything is served in big plastic cups. Had the cider on tap. Not a bad cider. We ended up sitting up stairs where it was practically empty. Just two tables up there in this big open bar space.
