It's located so the PH level of the hotel and it's amazing We had cocktails and sat and visited and looked over New Orleans and what a memory. Drinks were great and staff was helpful and friendly. The wait was only 10 minutes. Seats are hard to come by but we waited and got a table for the group. The vibe is party fun and happy laughter was had by all. Located at the intersection of Saint Charles and Josephine, this hotel is unique blend of historical and artistic, with just enough modern touches added to make your stay luxurious. Our room was beautifully decorated with old-fashioned furnishings and beautiful lamps. Unique and thought provoking artwork hung on the walls. We had a gorgeous view of the city and the Mississippi river from our window on the seventh floor. Art books sat on the table in the sitting area, along with an old school hot water percolator for coffee. I loved the medicine chest in the bathroom circa 1930s. Modern touches included fast Wi-Fi, a flatscreen TV with plenty of channels, a huge, luxurious shower, and high-quality soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. Small but notable decor choices showed that this hotel put great care into artistic details of the room. The bolster on the bed matched the dust ruffle and also matched a lamp. The velvet settee the foot of the bed was in the same color scheme. The room was aesthetically stunning and artistically inviting. Service was superb. A huge shout to RJ, the valet. Really nice guy! The Silver Whistle Cafe on the lobby floor is a beautiful breakfast spot. The Hot Tin rooftop bar has an amazing view. It was hopping on a Wednesday night. It's an airy, open, electric space. It is worthwhile to stay in a historic hotel rather than something branded. My stay at the Pontchartrain Hotel wasn't just a night in a hotel. It was an overnight tour of a small New Orleans art gallery and a visit with an older era, now only seen through photographs, art, architecture, music, and stories. read more

Stay away from booking! If you only saw the lobby and the restaurant, you'd think you found a hidden gem. The food was actually great and the entrance is beautiful, but that's where the "hospitality" ends. The moment you open your room door, the facade falls apart. Our room was genuinely repulsive. The carpets were riddled with stains. So many that we didn't feel comfortable walking barefoot for even a second. It was clear that housekeeping is doing the bare minimum, if anything at all. However, the filth was the least of our problems. Our group had one of their rooms robbed during our stay. It is incredibly unsettling to stay at a place where your belongings aren't safe. We moved hotels immediately, and when we told the locals where we had come from, they weren't even surprised. Apparently, this hotel has a local reputation for theft and security lapses that management is clearly doing nothing to address. It's a classic "lipstick on a pig" situation. They've spent money on the restaurant and the decor to pull people in, but they have zero regard for guest safety or basic hygiene. Do not risk your safety or your property by staying here. Easy to find right on St. Charles Ave. Easy street car ride, so there's no excuse not to visit one of the most famous sites in town. I felt compelled to leave a review after seeing the hotel's praises sung in Southern Living. During our stay, my prescribed Adderall got stolen the day before my Law School exams. I had to file a police report to get another prescription. My mom who has a -10 eyeglass prescription (a.k.a. She's half blind) got her glasses stolen, too. BOTH FROM OUR ROOM. She is lucky that she brought her contacts otherwise she would have had the most miserable time in New Orleans. Otherwise, the hotel actually initially put us in a room for people that are handicapped. The closet racks were close enough to the ground that hanging clothes did nothing to keep away creases. Also the shower was basically like a YMCA bathroom. It's nice that they have that as an option but why were we put in this room to begin with. They at least did put us in a nicer room free of charge but that was when our belongings got stolen. Mind you the reason my mom was even visiting was because she was worried about my mental health during finals. And then my Adderall got stolen... to put it lightly: wow, thanks for making me more unwell. By the way, glasses for a prescription that bad can cost up to $1000. Never recovered either. I lived in New Orleans for 3 years. You go to the hotel for Hot Tin and the downstairs bar and that's it. You never stay at the Pontchartrain. The reviews on here are inflated because people are leaving reviews simply for Hot Tin and the lobby bar. read more

WE WERE ROBBED. Do NOT stay here. From the moment we checked in something felt off. First, the front desk staff was beyond rude, and instead of key cards they give you an old-fashioned key -- with the other copy kept at the front desk. Our room felt old and dirty, but we ignored it because we were in town to have fun with friends. That night we had a 7pm dinner reservation at Jack Rose (inside the hotel). Around 9pm we left to go hear some live music. Shortly after, my friend started getting fraud alerts from her bank -- someone was using her credit card. When we got back to the room, her entire wallet was gone. Then we realized our room had clearly been gone through. My jewelry box was missing along with my jewelry, portable speaker, headphones, sunglasses, everyday bag, $200 cash, and more. My laundry bag had been emptied and my dirty laundry thrown on the floor so it could be used to carry the stolen items. The room had been entered with a KEY. The door wasn't forced, no locks were damaged -- which means someone with access to a key walked right in. We immediately called the police and filed a report. The staff told us the GM, Nick Thomas, would come review camera footage at 7am. That never happened. The next morning we spoke with a manager who seemed concerned, but when I later spoke with GM Nick Thomas the experience was completely different. He initially acted like he had not been informed that the robbery even happened and had to call me back to review the notes. He asked me how he could make this better, I said compensate what was lost to which he basically claimed there was "no proof" the rooms were broken into and suggested only refunding the rooms as if that fixed everything. Our hotel room was entered and belongings stolen while we were downstairs eating in the hotel restaurant. If your hotel uses physical keys and keeps copies at the front desk, and rooms can be accessed while guests are out, that's a serious safety issue. New Orleans is an amazing city -- but DO NOT stay here unless you're comfortable risking your belongings and being blamed for it afterward. read more

Stayed here with my mother after staying at the Hotel Monteleone for a week and wish we had never left. It's too far from everything and when we asked about laundry they said they couldn't find the price sheet. Asked again later the same night and they still couldn't find it but said they mentioned another guest who did laundry and get a whole bag washed for $25. So we figured we'd send a bag next morning and it would be $25. It was WAY more. If I had known I would have just waited. When I called to inquire about it after we got it back, all she said was manager wasn't there. Also, when going up the elevators, hotel guests were shoved into the one elevator because the other one was used for the rooftop bar. Guests who are paying money to stay here should get first dibs on both elevators. Don't save one for the rooftop bar. Wait until one is free. That's just absurd to me. Plus we eventually went up there later and saw other people go up there and bring up their own drinks. Tacky. Anyway, hopefully things get better. Later... Really cute hotel with a couple of great restaurants and a rooftop bar called Hot Tin with the best views of the city. When checking in they were all super nice, but there was I guess a miscommunication with how much laundry would be if sent out. That was what started our whole downhill with the place. Don't get me wrong. Nice spacious rooms, especially the bathroom which was amazing, but also was annoying when people who weren't staying there were taking over the elevator just to go to the bar upstairs. Both of them should be reserved for the people actually staying there first and foremost. The Bayou Bar downstairs had a great burger and crawfish sandwich but really weird tasting wine. Also, is a trolley ride away from everything central which doesn't sound so bad but definitely eats into the time and kind of more of a hassle compared to when you are staying close to everything. I would not stay here again as it is too far away for me and more expensive then the one that was close to everything that we stayed at. read more

Staying here felt like stepping back in time -- full of charm and character. The cafe downstairs is outstanding and the rooftop Tin Roof bar is a standout feature and a perfect place to unwind with a drink after a long day. The AC worked, but it struggled a bit during the hottest part of the afternoon. Still, the experience overall was memorable and relaxing. Horrible experience from the moment I walked in. The doorman (whose job it is to open the door) reluctantly propped the door open for me. Acted as though doing the job was a bother. I attempted to call the hotel several times before check in and could never get the front desk to answer the phone. I should have taken this as a red flag. I walk in and it's a like a haunted hotel. Very dark. One lady at a desk at the end of a hallway. I walk up and there is no greeting. She just stares at me blankly waiting for me to talk. Very weird. And no name tag to call her out by name. I asked if I could leave my bag until check in time and she said yes and told me to wait for her by the doors with my bag. I wait at the end of the hall for about 5 minutes just staring at her as she stood at the desk doing nothing. She finally came to take my bag. The whole interaction was so odd. The room key is a literal key. And you only get one no matter how many people you have. If you lose it, there is a hefty fee. The room itself was very average. Dated and not terribly clean but ok. At check out, I went to check out about 20 minutes before my scheduled checkout time and stood there for probably 10 minutes before anyone came to the desk. Who doesn't have someone working during the scheduled check out time?? At check in, I had provided a card to have on file as they requested. Little did I know that the day I check out, I would be charged $50. No explanation for the charge. Of course when I try to find out, no answer to my phone calls. I even emailed and got no response. All this and the room was expensive! The service here gave me the creeps. This hotel is a horror movie that just won't end. read more

I selected this hotel based upon reviews which usually don't let me down, but I must say I regretted my choice overall. Unless you are into sitting on the rooftop each evening and looking at the skyline, this hotel doesn't really offer much more. The lobby is so small as to be nonexistent (2 chairs in the entryway). The decor is tired. The rooms are a nice size, but nothing stands out in their renovation to make them feel special in any way. They are simply adequate. The hotel is located far enough from the French Quarter to be difficult, and yet not so deep into the Garden District that it provides peace and quiet. Sort of the worst of both worlds... Our check-in was bizarre--since we arrived too early and had to drop our bags, no one ever really gave us a welcome at all. When we returned to get our bags and room key, we were sent off without being told the room number, let alone other pertinent details such as which way to go or restaurant hours. The most disappointing was the price. This hotel wasn't inexpensive, and we missed out on the change to stay somewhere better (even in the Quarter) because this hotel had been well-reviewed. We arrived well before checkin time and the staff was very friendly and accommodating! With the room they provide coupons for a free glass of sparkling and inform us of a nearby gym that is available for use. Gorgeous room! The bed is plush and comfortable. I love the old world charm and class the space has. There is a small refrigerator in the room which has some beverages for purchase, but enough room for your snacks/leftovers. There is some work being done on the main floor, but it isn't disruptive. Would stay again! read more

Visit on Saturday, March 21, 2026 My group and I went to the rooftop bar at the Pontchartrain Hotel to celebrate a birthday, and the experience was shockingly bad. We were seated and given a pitcher of water--but no glasses. When my friend's wife took a sip directly from the pitcher (since no glasses were provided), an employee immediately told the staff not to serve us any drinks at all. When I politely asked why, the same employee became confrontational and actually threatened to kick me out, even though I hadn't done anything wrong. Things escalated for absolutely no reason. His attitude was rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. What made it worse is that even other employees outside admitted this same guy has a bad attitude, so it seems like this isn't a one‑off issue. As locals, we were hoping for a fun night out--but instead we were treated with hostility and disrespect. This behavior reflects extremely poorly on the rooftop bar and the Pontchartrain Hotel. That employee should not be representing this establishment, and I definitely won't be returning after this experience. read more

I was SO excited for my stay at The Pontchartrain. I booked a solo trip, and I love a good, possibly haunted, boutique hotel. Unfortunately, when I got there, it was extremely underwhelming for what I had paid. The front desk staff seemed moody and uninterested in helping their guests. The hallway and rooms smelled terrible, and the room itself was disgusting (especially for the price). The shower curtain was torn and stained pink due to soap and bacteria. The shower floor was SLIMY as if it hadn't been cleaned...maybe ever. I had to go buy flip flops to wear in the shower. There were suspicious stains on the walls and brown gunk (??) caked on the bed pillow. The whole room was dusty. I tried to get over it, but I paid a lot of money hoping to be in a nice hotel. I left my second night. The night shift security guard and the door man were both GEMS, and the only reason I am giving this place 2 stars. They really need to either update and !!CLEAN!! the rooms, or make the prices reflect what they have going on. read more

A beautiful boutique hotel in a lovely neighborhood that isn't just geared towards tourists. The best part is the personal touches that you would never get from a chain. I had an issue come up (my issue, nothing to do with the hotel) and was able to speak to the fabulous GM after the awesome front desk passed me along to him for help. We stayed for 5 days this past October. Walking in is a distinct smell of mold, pretty much stank. Granted, the hotel is nearly 100 years old (1927) but shouldn't smell that old. Furniture was worn and dated and the carpet was as well. We received housekeeping service 2 out of 5 days. Came back to unmade beds and had to request towels, coffee, etc. Totally overlooked by housekeeping. The problem with the elevators is a joke, as you wait to get to your room and the bar crowd packs the elevators. They're more concerned with operating the bars than running a decent hotel. Management needs a good wake up call. We travel to NO several times a year and will be certain to never give this place another dime. Nor should you. This is inexcusable by any standards. read more

This property is grossly overpriced for the dated conditions of the room and common spaces. There was a buckle in the carpet right at the threshold of my door that almost caused me to trip each time I entered and left the room. The bathroom was not deeply cleaned - I saw hair in the bathroom and the tiles in the shower were visibly soiled from the last guest. The tiles were black and chipped in places, and instead of being replaced, the tiles were painted over. And the carpet was also old and looked soiled. I spent Halloween in New Orleans which was a complete blast. As part of my most recent trip to Nola, I wanted to check out The Pontchartrain Hotel. This historic hotel is on Tripadvisor's list of top attractions in New Orleans. While I didn't stay at the hotel, I did get to walk around the lobby a little bit and the lady working the front desk was kind enough to give us a short tour and tell us a little bit about history of the hotel. After that, we went upstairs to their rooftop bar called Hot Tin. Tennessee Williams worked on A Streetcar Called Desire while staying at the hotel and the bar is named after him. The decor inside is really cool and they have a nice list of craft cocktails but the real selling point is the views from the rooftop patio. You get stunning views of New Orleans from Hot Tin. It was one of the coolest bars I checked out during my trip. read more

Do yourself a favor and filter to the 1-2 star reviews and this paints an accurate picture of the service you will receive here. Went with a large party for a birthday and we all stayed in different rooms, each with similar or worse experiences. Some serious issues: * None of us received housekeeping services except on our last day, one of us in our party did, they caught a member of housekeeping going into their backpack looking to steal things. * Management did not handle this professionally and accused us of misunderstanding and could not confirm if the employee was still on the premises * I had to approach the front desk to get more toilet paper and waters since housekeeping never showed. Even after I called to request these items be brought up after 3 hours I just went to the front desk. * Someone in our party overheard a guest saying their credit card was missing and had a charge on it even though it was left in their hotel safe (check other reviews, this is common!) * Room was dusty and worn and air conditioner had odd smell * Bathroom tile was painted over and chipping in areas I'm sure some people have stayed here and got out unscatched, but the turnover in management is a definite sign things are going downhill. The only thing keeping this place afloat is not their service but the rooftop bar that brings in a lot of publicity and business. I was fooled by the exterior charm of this place, but not worth the money to receive such terrible service and no help from the management. We did get a refund of one night, but the rate for this place does not match the quality. read more

I'm staying in this hotel for over $600 a night and they only have one elevator because the other elevator is used strictly to go to the rooftop bar. The rooftop bar is open to the public. That's what they care about not the people who are paying to stay in the hotel. And they let total strangers walk in the hotel use the lobby bathroom there's no security here whatsoever very disappointing. i'm 67 years old and I had to walk five flights already three times in two days because it's an hour away for an elevator. read more

Very quaint Boutique hotel.The valet were quick responsive and friendly. The front desk staff were outstanding particularly Kaye. Kaye was quick, witty and energetic. She was so personable and helpful it made our welcome to Nola a whole wonderful vibe. Our room was a nice size and very comfortable, especially the bed. The shower and water pressure were great. The elevator was slow particularly because of the very popular roof top bar and lots of Merrymaking going on at this hotel. Luckily we were on the second floor and we were able to utilize the stairs. The Bayou bar we hung out in several times, and the male bartender was helpful, fun and very knowledgeable making drinks. We were able to listen to some live music too and it was a lot of fun. We ordered some apps from the Bayou Bar as well to take to our room, some hummus and some garlic fries hit the spot. When we were leaving there was a very strong smell of sewage in the hallway on the second floor. We were so lucky to be able to bring our little Myndee girl (our doggie) but she barked a lot I assuming because of the noise from the street. When we come back we will try for a higher floor. It was advertised as vintage when really it was just, old and dusty. The rooms could be changed to give a vintage feel, instead they keep it dusty and raggedy. The carpet is old and torn. For location this is a great spot. But for $650 a night how do they run out of coffee for the room? They gave us free coffee coupons for the cafe but they didn't open until 7am and I was up at 5am. No room service even though we were told they would bring us coffee if we called for it. I went down to the front desk and was told that they would bring me coffee. After an hour I went back down and was told sorry they were out of coffee and didn't have my room number to call me and let me know. If they didn't have my room number how are they going to bring me coffee? The only tea they had was chamomile, which is for going to sleep not for waking up. They also will not give you room cleaning unless you ask for it specifically. I heard a lot of negative feedback about the fact that there's only one elevator, but we really didn't have any problems with that. There was no light above the sink in the bathroom so you had to rely on the light from the window on only half your face. Everyone was really nice. Beds were comfortable. You really are just paying for the history. We had a fantastic dinner at the Jack Rose restaurant! Forget about getting into the jazz club. Silver Whistle Cafe had the best chocolate croissant and grits that I've had in a very long time. Rooftop bar has a great view and people watching! It was nice being in the suite because we had a separate living room with TV from the bedrooms. But I don't think $650 a night is worth it. The hotel is very dingy and showing its age. On the positive side, some of the front desk staff were very kind and helpful, but that was inconsistent - largely depended on the individual. The elevator was broken the whole time, so getting to and from our room was a bit tedious. The room itself was spacious, but incredibly worn. Carpet was filthy. AC unit was caked in dust - I don't know if it has been maintained or cleaned in a long time. Lots of cracks in the plaster and evident water damage. I was a bit grossed out by the accommodations to be honest. I was pretty underwhelmed given the images on their site. read more

The worst service possible. What a shame this renown place has become so mismanaged as to make for a 1 star review. I would have left zero stars if it were an option. Room never serviced after multiple calls to housekeeping. No doorman but car valets who are rude, unless you have a car, and they can expect a tip. A coffeeshop that seems to never be open and fake coffee in the room. a bar that was bartenderless for 20 mins at 4:30 on a friday....I never did get a drink as there was no one to order one from....mold in bathroom...only 1 elevator for 15 stories. The second one was 'reserved for the rooftop bar 24/7 eventhough the bar is not open 24/7. This is low quality and NO service not worth half the price. Never again at any price. read more

Garden District Treasure! My heart was stolen inside this boutique hotel! Guess what, and I don't want it back. I will just keep returning and purposefully failing miserably to take my heart back home. I first saw this hotel on Instagram. I was like "wow" where could this be. The Instagram girl did a whole photoshoot. I searched for the name and Bam! I knew it was New Orleans. My room awaits, I told myself! I booked my flight and off to the friendly skies headed to the Big Easy! A little background, I traveled to Nola a few times out the year. I started coming here in my college days. First reserving rooms inside the French Quarters, and then working my way outside of the Quarters. So, I was pleased to learn the hotel is located in my beloved neighborhood, The Garden District. The trolley runs directly in front of the hotel doors. Shops and restaurants are lined on both sides of the streets. Pontchartrain Hotel, she's enchanting and full of charm. I felt like I stepped into the Roaring '20s. When ladies dressed up with pearls draped down dresses with fringes. Men in top hats, suits, wingtip shoes and canes. It's impossible to go straight to the desk and check-in. The richness of the colors of the entryway caught my attention. I wandered throughout the downstairs, relishing the dining and entertaining areas. Jack Rose, by far, is the most impressive dining room in the world! I'm thinking about having a tea party there. Silver Whistle great breakfast every morning! Late nights were enjoying listening to the sounds of music from a live band in the Bayou Bar. Great bar food too. Hot Tin is the best rooftop bar to view all of New Orleans! Hint, this is a celebrity paradise. No bodyguards, or attitudes. We all sat around on the same couch laughing and talking. I was the first one to call it a night. We said our pleasantries, hugged and goodnight. Oh, my room, it's a secret to opening the door. It's an actual key, but it's how the key is used to gain entry. A stunning rust color chaise was at the foot of my bed. A chair with a beautiful pattern was position in the corner near the window. I love chandeliers! My spacious bed was very comfortable. The headboard was in a pretty green velvet. I have to give praise to the bedding. The sheets thread count was clearly over 700. It was like sleeping on clouds. The covers were the covers from grandma house. Smell of fresh rain. The dressing and makeup area are separate from the water closet (bathroom,) we are in the Roaring '20s. The shower step was raised to a decent level preventing any water to seep on the floor. That's such a pet peeve of mine...Lol. I cannot say this strongly enough - DO NOT STAY HERE! This is a two star hotel with motel quality service and unbelievably overpriced rooms. We came here September of 2023 for my moms birthday and were so excited to stay here, the photos and reviews had our hopes high and after two nights at the Peter and Paul we were in excellent moods. Immediately upon our arrival however, we were deeply disappointed. Three of us arrived with 2-3 bags each and neither of the texting valet/lobby attendants gave us the time of day or offered to help with the bags. This should have been a red flag as this treatment continued throughout our stay. We arrived about an hour after our scheduled check in and only one of the rooms was available, no big deal we went up to the rooftop bar and started to relax. The tin roof bar was nice enough with just above average cocktails, but certainly nothing special. About 45 minutes later we were told our other suite was ready so we walked into the $900/night two bedroom Melpomene and we were just so let down by what we found. This suite was supposed to be the most grand and luxurious room in the whole hotel and it seemed like an abused party room with no attention to detail and a generally poor condition throughout. Ripped carpets, paint/bird droppings on the windows, random cables hanging out of the walls and a distinct cigarette smell should have been the red flags we needed but we were tired so we settled in. In the morning after visiting a much nicer hotel and waiting half an hour for the staff to deliver some coffee creamer we decided to check out early and cancel the rest of our stay. I went downstairs after lunch to ask for a luggage cart and the front desk said "that's not my problem, go ask the bell hop at the front door" so I asked him and was told "oh just ask the front desk and they'll send us up when you're ready" then went back to the front desk where she told me to "just tell him I said to help you" and at that point I just gave up and shlepped all 7 bags myself. As soon as we arrived at our next hotel (Windsor court) which was about the same price and leagues above in every way, we realized just how strange and unpleasant our experience at the Pontchartrain really was. The staff here were entirely uninterested in helping us at any point, refusing to make restaurant reservations, help with bags, etc and the basic cleanliness standards of the hotel are despicable. I am giving it two stars isntead because there are three restaurants on site and one of them is pretty good. The other hotels we stayed in were absolutely delightful and I can highly recommend both the Peter and Paul and the Windsor court, which are true four and five star hotels in the same price range as this unforgivable rats nest of despair masquerading as a hotel. Like many iconic parts of New Orleans, walking into the Pontchartrain Hotel is like walking through a portal back in time. Vintage decor all around with an intricate and elegant attention to detail. It's hard not to fall in love with the place within seconds. They even use old fashioned keys for the hotel rooms! Some people may not like this, some may find it charming, and some may not care either way. The rooms are a similar story. While the decor in the rooms may not be quite as intricate and elegant as the lobby, there's still the vintage charm all around with mint-green walls and touches of pink, white, and blank sprinkled in in the decor. If you're into that sort of thing, you'll love it. If not, you might want to consider staying elsewhere. Despite the old-fashioned feel of the place, everything was as modern as it needed to be, from the bathroom to the bed and there was an HD TV as well. It was very clean as well. One quirky detail: In the bathroom, there was a locked medicine cabinet with fake potions and tonics in it. One of them had Cooper Manning's name on it, which was kind of funny. This hotel also has many legends of ghosts associated with it. There's one legend of a vampire living here too. I didn't see any/hear any ghosts or vampires (that I know of), so don't get your hopes/fears up for any spooky encounters. I stayed a night with my sons and we booked a 2 bedroom that according to their website had 3 king beds. When we got to the room it was 1 king 2 singles. I spoke to the woman at the front desk and she was dismissive took no responsibility. I didn't have time to stick with it so I left with a bad taste in my mouth. It clearly said on their website three king beds after she told me it did. A wife called to talk to her and I'm not sure why she chose to be in the hospitality business because she was anything but accommodating. She was pretty rude. The hotel is pretty mediocre anyway. I'll never stay there again. This is a justified bad review. I rarely post on Yelp and it's always been positive, but their response was really annoying and unprofessional. read more
