I didn't realize brunch was such a big deal in Madison, everywhere I wanted to go had over an hour wait. We had other plans later, so when we passed this place and saw it was totally empty, we decided to give it a shot. The space is nice, open layout with lots of tables and bar seating. They serve standard American fare and have a brunch menu. The food was okay, nothing bad, just pretty standard. They offer bottomless mimosas too. Overall Service: We got seated right away, we were literally the only ones there, but service was a bit slow. There were a few servers around, mostly on the other side of the restaurant, and it took a while to flag someone down when we needed the check. The Post bagel sandwich appealed from the moment I first saw it on the room service menu. I actually HAD it in the dining room the next day and it was very neatly prepared and came with an enormous side of fruit. The bagel had a LOT of stuff on it including a house made aioli, avocados, sausage, cheese and about 4 other components. While everything tasted great together it was beyond the carrying capacity of the everything bagel it was served on. Still, it was a treat. read more

We came as a large group of 7 and got 2 large charcuterie boards to graze on for our group as well as an old fashioned cocktail for each of us. The charcuterie boards were packed and we ended up needed to go boxes for all of our extra food we wanted to be able to snack on later. The restaurant was pretty quiet for a Saturday around noon which was nice for us as we almost got the place to our selves. All in all the drinks and charcuterie was delicious, I'll definitely be back. read more

Unfortunately our experience at The Post was very disappointing. 5 of 8 meals were served after a long wait, one of which had to be remade. The remaining 3 meals took an additional 10 minutes because the original orders, we were told, were grabbed by another server. Came in for lunch about 1:00 on a Sunday. I ordered the Post Burger from a lunch menu they gave me and it was listed for $16. I ordered it with no modifications or additions. It was a good burger cooked as I like, so I had no complaints about the food. When I got the bill it said $18. I asked and the server said that the menu was wrong and that it was $18 and that I would need to pay $18 and they would get the menus corrected. She brought out another menu that had the price at $18. I pushed back a little and gave up and paid the higher price. They really need to straighten this out. read more

Place was empty on a Sunday at noon which is very surprising for a restaurant on the square. It was very clean and recently remodeled, so it looks very fancy. Service was friendly and accommodating. Tortellini pasta was really creamy and a great combo with the shrimp and scallops included. Chicken tenders, cheese curds and pub chips were all hot and crispy. A solid lunch spot! read more

I stayed at the hotel and checked the menu before I went to the Post. The menu fine print says to ask the server about vegan modifications. When I asked they said they could leave the cheese off of the salads. I guess that's a vegan modification, but I was disappointed that my only option was a salad. I don't think you need to specify to ask about vegan mods if all you offer is a cheeseless salad. The Paloma cocktail was good. The two servers went and sat down on the other side of the restaurant for awhile and I finally had to get up and go ask for my bill. I didn't return to this restaurant for the remainder of my stay in the hotel. read more

Went here for lunch on a Friday with some coworkers. The place was pretty much empty other than one person at the bar. Our waitress was very nice in explaining the menu items. It's not the largest menu, but what we ordered was pretty good. I got the veggie wrap with a side salad. I got my dressing on the side and it was quite good. I was also a fan of the veggie wrap, but it could have used a little more flavor. The dressing that came with the wrap was the same as that was on my salad, so it would have been nice to have a different flavor added in. My friends got the fries with their meal, and all were big fans. They were crisp and not overly salted or greasy. Our only complaint was that it took a while for our food to come. We all had pretty simple orders, but the wait was a little long for us being the only people in the restaurant. read more

Really good location and a beautiful place. My husband and I had a rare opportunity to have food downtown together, so decided to try it. The food was just okay (exception being the pub chips which were really good). I had the Buttermilk Chicken Brioche sandwich. Some of the ingredients that were supposed to be in the sandwich were missing. The sandwich was super dry. The tzatziki came on the side and it was so watery, I couldn't add it to the sandwich. The fries were good, not too greasy. My husband had the Reuben and pub chips. Reuben was also dry, and just okay. The worst part of our experience was the service. When we walked in (a little before noon) there were only people in 2 or 3 tables and one server and one bartender. We got a glass of water pretty quickly, but it took a minute to get our food. When they brought it, we didn't get offered ketchup or any other condiments (which they have because other tables had it). I drank most of my water half-wat through my dry sandwich, and my glass was never refilled. It took the waitress so long to come back that by the time we asked her for our bill and a box (my husband only ate half of his sandwich), I had to leave to get back to work. My husband got the bill (he said he had to wait for it) and never got a box (he wasn't too sad about it as the food was average). I thought it was a fluke and they were understaffed, but reading reviews here it seems to be a consistent issue. read more

We've (the three of us) have gone to the Post many times, and, with almost no exceptions, have been served well-prepared food and drinks and great service for brunch on Sunday. Brunch, at the Post, is essentially the breakfast menu, although you can also utilize the lunch menu. So imagine our surprise today, 11/19/23, at around noon when the wait person provides us with menus, says she'll be back soon and, finally, after about a quarter-hour we leave because the wait-person never returned! When Shane was the wait-person, this would never have happened, but that is no longer the case. It's a shame that the Post, in terms of service, has deteriorated so much that we can't wait long enough to get it. You can't order anything if you never get served. We never got served. So we went to Bear and Bottle and got served immediately. read more

If the quality of the food was better, I'd consider frequenting this establishment more often. After a major renovation in 2016, The Post features a stylish black and white tiled floor, a gorgeous curved wooden bar and a fantastic view of the Capitol Square. The Cuban Sandwich ($9) I recently had for lunch was a terrible disappointment. The quality of the ingredients, from the exceedingly dry bread to the semi-melted Swiss Cheese to the bland cold-cut quality ham, were a letdown. Instead of pulled pork, my sandwich had a sliced pork loin that imparted little flavor. The fries that accompanied my meal were under-cooked and over-salted. Based on my mediocre experience, I was not surprised that there was only one other set of customers at the restaurant at the peak of a weekday lunch service. read more

Food was very average. Definitely not worth the super bad reviews they've been getting. It's a cute place with a nice open space and friendly staff. You get what you pay for really. If you're staying at the hotel as just a Madison visitor I would recommend you go somewhere else if you have the time, because the dishes aren't anything you couldn't get anywhere else. But if you don't have the time or you're nearby and want something simple it'll do just fine. read more

We went for lunch after attending the Madison farmers' market. We sat outdoors and a very good guitar player had set up shop at the corner. We had French onion soup, ahi tuna tacos, the Post salad, and caprese salad. Food was excellent!! It helped to have bottomless mimosas and bottomless bloody Mary's. This place is gorgeous inside. The food is basically what I'd expect from a hotel restaurant - edible but nothing special and overpriced, but the service was atrocious. I had a chicken Caesar salad wrap and fries. The wrap was decent although the dressing was a bit heavy for my tastes. The fries were mediocre and overly seasoned. They're the only French fries my toddler has ever turned her nose up at. When we were there (mid-afternoon) the bartender was doubling as a waiter and was extremely inattentive. He also seemed a little annoyed to have a toddler in the restaurant. read more

The staff is so friendly, the food is good, and the drinks are wonderful. I go here to have a New York City or Washington DC feel. It's especially fun to go on weekends, or during an event such as the Madison marathon or the Ironman. read more

Finally found the perfect brunch spot! This place is never super busy so you'll always find a table for nearly any party size. We came here on a Saturday for bottomless mimosas from 11-2! The food was great! I had the mexican omlet and it was FANTASTIC. A great size too! Wish I had a side of salsa with it and the hash-browns needed a little bit of flavor though. My friend had the avocado toast with some smoked salmon on it and it was delicious! Huge piece of toast too. The service was STELLAR. Our waitress was very funny and always kept our glasses full of mimosa! The mimosa had a balance of OJ and Champagne so good work on that too. Overall, I can't wait to return! Hard to believe this place doesn't have a better rating. Heather is THE BEST bartender around. Great to get to know, pouts a good drink, and takes great care of you..... whether your a local, or not. I thought my Greek salad was really good! Not sure why the bad reviews either!!! Every time I've ever eaten here it was good!

OK, I see the other review says that folks ordering beer seemed content. I've been here twice, and I've had mildly offputting experiences both times. The nice things I can say are that the decor is beautiful and the location is great, and surprisingly the happy hour drinks are very cheap. I'm not the kind of guy who complains about service. Bartenders and waiters/waitresses work a real tough job, with long and weird hours where they have to deal with drunk folks nonstop. That sucks. I am going to make the *rarest* criticism of bartenders here at The Post. I've ordered 4 drinks here. 2 out of the 4 have been wrong. I got the wrong cocktail the first time. Sorta excusable, I think I ordered Whisky Sour, not exactly exotic but probably not one of the top 10 most common cocktails out there. It came out awful. Again, I can sorta look past it, but then it became a pattern. Second drink wrong was a beer. Like, literally, I even said what color the tap was, and they poured the wrong one. I told them it was the wrong one, and maybe they didn't hear or maybe they did, but they handed it to me. I wasn't about to stiff them over it, but jeez, it's a beer. Tough to mess up, but I guess possible. I also had to practically scream for the bartender's attention... at a practically empty bar. Just all in all, I'd avoid this place. read more
