Amazing on all fronts! We were lucky enough to get a chefs counter seat and could watch all the hard work and love that goes into all the dishes here. The head chef Casey served us our plates and he was a delight to chat with! He puts so much love and thought into every dish. He explained some of the inspirations for things on the menu which was fun! If you are vegetarian this place is a dream with tons of options! Do not be fooled, they are very filling. My husband and I shared the marinated white beans on toast, cauliflower, oyster mushroom and pesto spaghetti. All were great and delicious! Least fav (although still tasty) may have been the cauliflower cuz it's fried and gets a little heavy but the raisins in the dish are a nice surprise and treat! Although tapas style, the portions are generous. You can taste how fresh the Ingredients are in each dish as well. The pesto was a flavor bomb of fresh basil and garlic! The drinks are also top notch with interesting ingredient that create a wonderful medley together. Highly recommend trying a few. For dessert we shared the bay leaf cake and the creme brûlée- also delicious. I look forward to returning the next time I visit Madison. Also love how the restaurant ambiance is a homage to blanches lanai from golden girls! It's a fun space with great decor. I've dined at MM more than 10 times since moving to the area, and the food is consistently creative, flavorful, and among the most exciting in Madison's dining scene. They clearly take risks in the best way, and it often pays off. The only reason I can't give five stars is an ongoing issue with salt levels. On a few occasions, dishes haven't just been slightly over-seasoned, they've been overwhelmingly salty to the point of overpowering the flavor and, at times, bordering on inedible. And that's coming from someone who genuinely enjoys salty food. When they get the balance right, the food is exceptional. I just wish the seasoning were more consistent. read more

Really well done, fresh food. We got a NA Sangrita and it was delicious, super vegetal. It was our first time in and the chef was super kind and gave us a biscuit, which was insanely good. Like blew my mind. The preserved beets were so refreshing and acidic in a pleasant way, just wish there was a little more crème with it. We had the cauliflower too, which was so flavorful and we enjoyed it, but it was really, really oily. We also had the zucchini which was great but also oily. The carrots were perfect. The strawberry pizetta was also great but the dough was a little undercooked, but still really enjoyable. If you're coming with a big group, I would recommend making a reservation beforehand unless you want to be seated at countertop. Sangrita with mezcal: The mezcal makes it bit spicy. Very refreshing, slightly on the sweet side but you can still taste the alcohol. Brandy old fashioned sweet: Sweeter than the Sangrita surprisingly, very citrusy. My favorite from the two. Biscuit: I had to get this staple dish. Pretty much everyone had good reviews. I would consider this dish more as a savory dessert rather than a appetizer because this was SWEET. Of course, I had to dig in and see what she was talking about - the joint was called Mint Mark so naturally I booked a rez. It was a newer space in an apartment building and right away we really liked the vibe - midwest or Wisconsin supper club (not that I've been to many) / Frank Lloyd Wright with a good touch of Mad Men should Don Draper travel to Madison for a client wanting to advertise cheese. Our server was incredible - she was so knowledgeable about the dishes, gave good recommendations, and was super friendly. I will spare the suspense - the biscuit was amazing! All the dishes were very creative and interesting, and give the chef a lot of credit for that. Ranking our dishes from least favorite to favorite: Langos Donut Devilled Eggs Chitarra Biscuit Meatloaf The only one of those dishes I'd prob pass on if I came again would be the donut - the first few bites were good, but then I didn't love it. Went for brunch yesterday, and really liked the general vibe... but I must point out that the service was just okay. Not even casual conversation from anyone, barely observed pleasantries. Interactions are half of hospitality! I also felt that the furniture on the patio was quite uncomfortable to sit on. My friend's food hit the table probably ten minutes before mine. I asked for at least one thing I never received. Now.. I am a sucker for chilaquiles, so despite a few tantalizing options- I ordered that. It tasted like the chips were drenched in tomatillo and broiled instead of sautéed in oil and hot sauce. It was okay, but traditional prep method is superior. Years ago we ate at their cramped location on Winnebago Street - frankly I don't remember the meal itself. When they moved to this new much bigger location we knew we had to give a it try especially seeing the great reviews. Reservations are essential especially on weekends. We got there early and were able to opt for a better table with a good view of the spacious and nicely designed room. Our waitress Madeline was fantastic. She spent time explaining the menu and the concept behind the dishes. I started with their guava rum cocktail which was very tropical. My wife got their version of an old fashioned- both were a big thumbs up. We tried five of the small plates which came out as each was ready. The smoked onion dip was very good especially with the home made chips. The Brussel sprouts dish and the pork sausage and barbecue beans were both great. The pizzetta with goat cheese was good but you have to like a strong cheese. My favorite of all the dishes was the biscuit- this should really be a desert since it was so sweet. Overall we had an excellent experience. We did spot that there are seats at a bar overlooking the kitchen. We might try that next time since it is fun to watch the action. We will be back! read more

I was seated at a high table for 10 minutes and nobody came to give me a menu or water when I decided to flip my experience around and move to the bar. Ok, I get it. It's a busy Thursday night. What would have been a 1 or 2 star review in terms of food quality, cooking style, service (at first), and value was rescued solely based on the wonderful service of my waiter/bartender, Jake. He did a phenomenal job in reading the room and noticing that I did not enjoy the overly oily cauliflower dish. His observant professionalism made up for my experience entirely. He was attentive and gave great recommendations to make up for the first two misses for me. Mint Mark is a hip spot in Madison but extremely overpriced for what it is. What an experience this was! I never made it to the old location so this was my first time ever. The space is so beautiful inside. The menu is very eclectic and it was exciting to try a slew of different dishes! I started out with a Carajillo Collin's and it was so delicious! Much better than an espresso martini. We then ordered 7 dishes to share between 4 people and this was plenty of food. The standouts were the heirloom tomatoes, langos donut, the biscuit (MUST ORDER), and the smoked onion dip. 5/5 Went for the first time to celebrate a special occasion and was so delighted I've been back twice more with different friends/family to try and show them how lovely it is. Full disclosure- my mom was overwhelmed and my friend was delighted so make sure you choose your audience wisely... essentially the menu is built around a few ingredients without much detail to allow chef the most creatively (I haven't been the slightest bit disappointed but this style isn't for everyone). The menu is constantly changing to match what is in season and Mint Mark works to source everything locally which is a huge plus for us. The ambiance/decor inside is LOVELY. It matches the entire vibe of the restaurant really well. Cocktail/drink menu is also always being updated and I've had two different cocktails now that I've thoroughly enjoyed. Parking is easy- in the covered garage attached and validated when you go inside to make sure you're not accruing extra cost. Ultimately Mint Mark is a higher price point restaurant and small plates style for sharing with a ton of flexibility/creativity built into the dishes. I was able to make a reservation, which was far more efficient than their previous waitlist situation. We ordered the biscuits and gravy, short stack, potatoes, and bacon. We tried the Olive confit, French fingerlings, tiger salad, biscuit, mafadine, and Amish chicken. The fingerlings had an amazing sauce on them and were so crispy. The tiger salad was our favorite, perfectly spicy and fresh. Overall, I thought the portions were very generous for a tapas style restaurant. For drinks, we tried the vesper and the old town Punch. Both were fairly strong, I liked the old town punch the best because it was a little sweeter. The cocktail menu was very large, though It was so hard to pick what I wanted. My husband and I ate here with my parents for the first time. I hadn't heard of this restaurant until they moved to their new location on East Washington. It is very easy to find and there's an indoor parking lot you can park in and they validate the parking for you at the host stand which is super nice since the parking is then free. I read online they change parts of their menu by season and they now have a few new things for spring we were excited to try. When my husband and I arrived, my parents were at the bar having a drink. We all loved the decor and the atmosphere feels light and open. I love the color scheme and plants all around. I also saw children enjoying being able to watch people making the food in the open kitchen area. We all loved the drinks and there were so many to choose from. I see why this is a popular brunch spot! For our group of 4, we got 8 different foods off the menu. The menu is broken down into 4 parts by size & our waiter told us they get heavier as you move along. I've included pictures of some of the foods we got in my review. I forgot to take a picture of a couple bc they looked so good we dug right in! For this reason a few are taken after first bites as well. Below is what we tried: Lil Bits- The Biscuit & The Smoked Onion Dip (both so good!) Small Plates- The Cauliflower & The Crispy Pasta (we all loved the flavors in the cauliflower & I was skeptical of the crispy pasta as it didn't look like what I envisioned but it tasted so good and had a great balance to it) Pasta, Pizza, & Pierogis- The Cavatelli, The Bucatini, & The Pierogis (the cavatelli had very little lamb in it, moreso little bits of it but had a good kick of spice and flavor. We all loved the bucatini and pierogis) Big Time- Chicken Fried Catfish (this was recommended to us by our waiter. I normally don't like catfish and find it too fishy tasting but this was very good. Nice crispy fish and the sauce on top was so delicious. I was so full but kept eating because I was obsessed with the sauce. The trout roe were a nice touch and added nice texture to the dish!) Visited the new East Washington location with family. We were looking forward to eating here. Ordered many new dishes with a couple of favorites - biscuits and cauliflower steaks. Generally, the dishes are still good. We were however disappointed with our favorites. The new biscuit don't taste as good as before. It got taller and so more doughy. The old biscuit was fried on all sides but this isn't. The new cauliflower dish is now florets instead of a steak. It is softer than before. The old dish was charreed with a slight crunch. We would come to mint Mark just for these 2 dishes but with the changes, I don't think we would anymore. The other dishes were new to us and taste good still. Wait staff was very nice and asked for feedback and I share our preference with her. We love the new location. I like how they brought some of the things that I like about mint Mark grin the old location over. Feels familiar and new at the same time. Lots of tables now. Love the vibes, seasonal menu with amazing ingredients, and amazing chefs! First time at the new E. Wash location- larger space than their old Winnebago location and many more tables. We walked in early on a Saturday night and were told it would be about 30 minutes for a seat at the chef's counter and had a drink at a cocktail table in bar while we waited. I was really disheartened that the bartender was rude and did not acknowledge me went I went back to the bar for another drink. Stood there for five minutes while she served other patrons. Not even an I'll be with you in a moment. The chef's counter was awesome! Jay and Casey were wonderful and it really made the experience to interact with them and ask questions. We were asked about allergies or dietary restrictions and they marked up the menu for me for all vegetarian dishes (was even asked about chicken/beef broths!) Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs even though they are small plates. But the flavor and local ingredients were top notch. The beet and burrata salad was my favorite- the beets were smoked and had the right amount of salt with a dill dressing. You MUST get the biscuit bathed in honey and butter. The onion dip was a fun twist on a classic midwestern staple. Will go back because the food and chefs were amazing and there is a lot more I want to try Hopefully the bar service will up their game. read more

The Calabrian potatoes were cooked perfectly buuut, way too much sauce on top. I recommend getting it on the side. The strata Benedict was a dangerously runny poached egg (I've never gotten a poached egg with runny egg whites) on high quality cold deli ham, and what seemed like to be a warm but soggy savory French toast in the bottom. The hollandaise wasn't very good. Again, a boujee take on a classic but very unnecessary steps were taken. But hey the pancakes are some of the best pancakes in Madison which makes my review a 3 and not a 2/5. read more

I think there is a parking lot too, but it is kind closed garage where we need to speak through intercom. I couldn't figure that one while driving either. The service was friendly, the Golden Girls vibe (I stole that from another reviewer because it's accurate) was fun. The roasted cabbage was tasty and the beets were legit. We weren't put off by the kitchen's request for a full order because that's not unusual in the small plate concept. What is unusual is the complete lack of attention to any manner of spacing/coursing. The idea of small, shareable plates is to spend some time enjoying/savoring/digesting each one - not to have 6 plates crammed onto a 2-top at the same time. There is little enjoyable and nothing elevated about that. We can go a lot of places to get a bunch of food piled on the table and be out the door in 45 minutes; that's not why we chose Mint Mark. We felt rushed and unable to truly enjoy each plate. We can't review the pasta dish that never made it to the table. Just not at all what we hoped for based on reviews and local talk-up. read more

Whoa! An absolutely incredible experience at Mint mark. Every single thing on the menu looked delicious and included tons of vegetarian dishes. Their new space is massive and really beautiful inside. They have indoor/outdoor seating as well as bar seating and even kitchen seating so you can watch all the dishes come out with a front row view. I sort of felt like I was on an episode of "the bear" while I was here. Service was excellent and food came out quickly/as soon as it was ready which was really nice. The menu is setup for ordering several small plates which was a really fun way to try so many interesting dishes. TLDR: good drinks, very delayed food and drinks, poor quality/burnt food, weird service model I've been here twice now and both times were strange and off-putting despite good drinks and ambiance. The first time was for their martini lunch which my friend and I were so excited for. Our server was great and so kind, but she was clearly overly busy and understaffed. We put in our martini orders right away when our server made her way over to us. After a bit of a wait, she came back to take our order and apologize that the bar was so backed up. We ordered and received our food before our drinks. Overall it took about 40 minutes for two martinis to arrive which really defeats the purpose of a martini lunch. We had planned on trying multiple drinks of their menu, but didn't get the chance since it took so long. The food was alright, but a bit pricy for the quality. Everything was so backed up that our check was dropped before we could order dessert or another drink in order to get the next reservations sat. I felt for the poor bartender, but seems like poor planning or management to be so behind. The second time was for brunch with two friends. We arrived right at open since we didn't have a reservation and were given a long-winded and condescending answer that we could only eat at the bar. We love sitting at a bar though, and made our way over there to eat even though the host seemed so annoyed with our choice. The drinks and cinnamon roll were fantastic and the bartender was great, but the rest of the meal was just strange. We did not know that food would arrive from the kitchen whenever it was ready, so there was an awkward wait time of about 20 minutes between when the first and last order were brought and everyone had their meal. The chilaquiles were nicely spicy and the best entree we ordered. The French toast came out lukewarm and soggy and was overall pretty bland. The chicken and waffles took the longest and arrived with a cold, soggy waffle and burnt chicken. I'm talking like black, acrid tasting burnt with chewy overcooked chicken. When it was dropped off, we thought it must be coated in a seasoning blend because there's no way a line cook, chef, and server would look at it and think it was fine to serve. We were so baffled that we forgot our friend had ordered a poached egg for his chicken and waffles. After eating what we could and putting napkins and silverware on the plates indicating we were finished, the poached egg was dropped off. 40 minutes after the first item of food came out. There was no longer anything to eat the egg with and the poor food runner seemed so confused on why we didn't want the egg anymore. Not to mention that the poached egg was served barely cooked with uncooked egg whites and placed in a bowl so it wouldn't run off the plate. One poke and it went back to being a raw egg. The egg was removed from the bill, but we were so confused how such poor quality food made its way out of the kitchen. Overall, based on both times I've been here, this restaurant feels like it's masquerading as a high-end restaurant when it's really very mediocre with cute decor and kind staff. My friend ate a third of her dish and packed it to take home. She tossed it into the trash in the parking lot. The martini's were great and the server. But the food disappointed. Here's what we ordered and here's what we thought: Biscuit w/ honey: 5/5 Hands down the best ever had Beets: 2/5 Whatever it was spiced with was too much, you couldn't taste the beets Corn dog: 3/5 It was good, but didn't wow us Pierogi: 2/5: Too much pickled sauerkraut flavor Duck w/frites: 2/5 duck was bland, no cherry flavor and the frites were boring Altogether nothing really wowed us, except for the biscuit, which isn't enough to come back for. read more
