Good place to paint already-made pottery pieces. You can select whatever design speaks to you, paint it and they will fire it for you. It's pretty popular with kids, which is fine except some adults just stand around in aisles talking to other parents, while their kids paint which makes it difficult to get more paints, water, etc. Seen this happen more than a few times. Cute and fun! Went with a few friends for the first time (4 in total) and liked my experience overall. We went on a Saturday so it was pretty busy and couldn't be seated at first but we put our name down for a reservation and came back a couple of hours later and it wasn't a problem. There were some cute piece options with different price ranges (around $20 overall if you get the cheapest options) and plenty of colors. This place is great! So many different ceramic pieces to choose from; animals, dishes, decor pieces, jewelry boxes. It's got plenty of tables and the workers are all kind and helpful. Similar to my first review on Wedge, The Pottery Place took place during the same weekend as a bonding event with my sorority sisters. I am happy to say that it was one of the best creative experiences that I have had and it is a hidden gem in the CU area. I know for sure that will be returning in the future! Check-In: Two days before our scheduled appointment, my roommate and I paid our first visit to the studio. It was only thirty minutes until they closed and yet when we walked in an employee instantly greeted us with a warm welcome. After explaining that we were coming in to take care of a deposit for our party, he quickly gave us a run through of how the day would go. We were able to preview the elephants that were ordered for us and were given the chance to browse all other figurines. He was even happy enough to answer all (literally ALL) of our questions to ensure the day of would run smoothly. He was quite informative in the procedures from when we would arrive to the pick up of the items. He was definitely a super informative employee that set a great tone for the company. Day Of: The day of our painting appointment, the studio was packed with families and friends. We were instantly escorted to our room full of three long tables and three smaller ones with multiple chairs surrounding each one. At each spot, there was an elephant in place and small pallets to hold our paint. An employee came in to give us brief instructions about the different types of paints, locations of supplies and the process of payment (which takes place at the end of the session). There was a wide range of variety in brushes and paints. During the entire session, there was background music that was soothing and the employees were attentive to any needs. We stayed for about an hour and a half with wrapping up by paying $12 at the counter. Pick Up: After a few days, I went to pick up the bulk of the elephants; however, there was a bit of a miscommunication. The night before the pick-up, the order did not dry properly and to ensure the best results, they kept them for an extra day. After the initial pick up, I did not return until after Fall break. Each elephant was labeled with a name, wrapped in paper and placed in individual, small brown bags. Overall, I am excited to return back because of their superb service, soothing environment and wide range of options. Would recommend it to anyone in the CU area to at least experience once. read more

I organised a surprise birthday party for my wife at The Pottery Place. There were 7 families with kids. The whole event was a roaring success. The kids and some of the adults thoroughly enjoyed painting the pottery pieces and they eventually came out incredibly nice. In organising the party, the folks at The Pottery Place were very cooperative. I also thought the cost was very reasonable. read more

Awesome place to go if you're looking for something to do as in outing in Champaign! I took my mom here her Moms Weekend and she had a blast, as did I! Really was hoping to find a place where I could create my own pottery and paint it but this was just as exciting. BREAKDOWN: I think it's an entry fee of $7 just to come and use their facility and supplies. Then you pick up the pottery you paint, which varies per selection. Pretty sure my mom and I spent under $25 so very affordable. Any who, it takes 3 days for it to be ready so that's not to bad! (But you pay once you're done painting) Overall experience was fun! Fun family oriented place it seems as there were two birthday parties for kids while I was there. P. Loved it! Four tall shelves of pottery to choose from... everything from knick knacks to plates and cups... all ready to paint. This was my first time here, so the staff took the time to explain "the ropes". We were encouraged to look at other pieces waiting to be "fired" and pictures on the walls. All staff were friendly and more than happy to answer questions, even silly ones :) I made a all in one teapot and cup, my friend made an adorable ornament, while the mother/daughter next to us made a mushroom and chip/dip platter. Everyone had a creative spark which made the pieces special. The paint & glaze used makes all pieces food grade. There is a studio fee which includes table space, paint, brushes, stencils, stamps, and firing. From my understanding, theme pieces rotate out per season and holiday. I am looking forward to seeing more Christmas pieces in the next couple of weeks. read more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!!!! From start to finish they were excellent to work with. I needed a place to have my sisters Bachelorette party, and every place we called to do something crafty didn't give us great customer service. But when I called The Pottery Place they were nothing less than phenomenal. The party was perfect! They gave us a step by step on what to do, answered any of our questions and made my sis, the Bride, feel like a million bucks! Honestly they went above and beyond in every way. The staff were very helpful. We painted pottery which took about 2 hours. It was a lot of fun and we received our pottery with in 3 days.

This place has always been awesome and accommodating to me and the different crowds in store. Whether there are loads of little children running around, grandmas with their more mature grandkids, or me and my college friends-- the staff has noting be kind words of encouragement. I never leave here feeling like a great artist but I have multiple plates and serving pieces I love. As with any pottery painting place, it is not the cheapest, but you leave with a food ready item. Unless you are like my boyfriend who painted an ape like a baboon... Go take an hour and pick up an amazing piece four days later! You will not regret it! read more

The Pottery Place is amazing. Last year they expanded into an adjoining space for even more room. They have a wonderful selection of bisque to paint, and some seasonal items as well. Each time I go in, there is something I have not seen before. The paints cover a broad spectrum of colors. And if you are stuck for an idea, there are photo albums of items previous customers have painted. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, (even if you space out and think they close at 10 pm on Saturday, instead of 9 pm!). The customers are also very friendly, so don't be afraid to walk around and admire works-in-progress; and don't be surprised if folks stop to watch while you work. As many times as I have been in, I have never encountered a child in the middle of a meltdown. Talk about awesome! And while they are usually closed on Mondays, they are frequently open if it is a Monday holiday, which is great. read more

This is one of the few things-to-do places which is enjoyable for everyone in the family. It's affordable and you don't need to bring anything except your creativity since they provide everything from the painting tools to the pottery. Average time people spend here is an hour to hour and half. Total price per person varies as I believe there's a base rate of $7 for adults and $5 for children and the price of the pottery you pick is added on top of that. Theres a whole wall worth of pottery pieces to select form. Those range in price as well, I saw some for as low as $8 and there were some for $40. Mugs, cups, platters, bowls, decor pieces, everything was there. They keep your painted piece to finish with glaze and dry and you come back to pick it up a few days later. The paint is food safe. The piece is also microwave safe. Ive been using the cup I made for two weeks now and am still obsessed with it! Great place to take your parents, kids, besties or plain ol date night! read more
