Well, the squash casserole that my wife recommended was the tasty part of the meal. The garlicky new potatoes tasted reheated and the chicken was under cooked. The price was great but regardless of price I expect a good meal. At a roasting place I expected the chicken to be falling off the bone or at least be cooked to a temperature to breakup the connective tissue and this was the opposite. I ate as much as I could stomach and then I focused on the reheated garlicky potatoes and squash casserole. The squash casserole did rock. Probably try their other location closer to home eventually, but this visit was less than satisfying.

The seasoning is hitting every corner--it's like they actually care about your taste buds. No grease, just crunch. Then you hit it with the guacamole. It's fresh, I think, it's chunky, and it's got that lime kick that actually makes sense. It's not that neon green paste they try to slide you at the grocery store. When you combine the two, it's a beautiful thing. It's a peaceful transaction. No complaints. No notes. Just pure, unadulterated productivity. Totally yummy. For a side I had a substantial bowl of collard greens ($6), done perfectly. Wife had the meat loaf ($15) which was two large hamburger-sized pieces, wrapped in bacon and with a delicious sauce. She did not share them with me. One of those pieces came home with us. Continual iced tea was served for $2. A bit of history is in the hallway of the Kounter building. Nine Black college students served nearly 30 days detention on a prison farm after staging a sit-in at this South Carolina Whites-only restaurant in 1961. On a visit to Kounter in December, I was told by a waiter it's not uncommon to see some of the Friendship 9 eating at the restaurant. Drop by to ogle the menu and take in the historical display. Very interesting and a good insight as to where black people were back then.

There was a beautiful rustic garden area with lots of seating, a fountain with live turtles and hanging lights making this spot a great place to hang out with a drink on a pleasant night. The front of the cafe has lots of amazing items like handmade soaps, honey, syrups, sauces, kitchen utensils and other merchandise. It was fun to look around as we waited for our reservation time to come. Escorted to our table we passed by a bar area that would be nice if you were waiting for your table and could have a drink. The main dining area held a lot of booths with some tables in the middle of the room. I think the booths gave you a certain amount of privacy and also keep the volume low so it was easy to converse with your company. Also on our table I noticed a tag with my name, reservation time and how many was expected. It was held in place with an old style clothes pin. Very cute touch and nice to see how organized they were. Our server was very attentive and answered all our questions about the items we were interested in ordering. We both ordered sweet tea with our meal and they came in what I have to believe were old fashioned jelly or jam jars! It was so appropriate! Also I barely could get my tea down a quarter of the way before she showed back up and topped off our drinks! The tea tasted like it had been sitting on the back porch all day soaking up the sun. The salad was very bright and looked fresh and was served with dressing on the side which my friend liked. She ordered the Jereline's Chicken. It was two breaded chicken breasts, served w/ pepper gravy over mashed potatoes. I had a taste of the chicken and the breading was light and seasoned lovely and it was very juicy. I ordered the Pecan Crusted Chicken sandwich, which was fried pecan breaded chicken, lettuce, bacon, red onion on a crusty hoagie roll minus the honey Dijon. My side of fries came in what I would call a strawberry pint container. Too cute! The fries were hot and crispy! The nutty flavor of the pecans with the smokey flavor from the bacon made this sandwich a real winner! Even though the dinners filled us up there was no way we could pass up dessert. Be aware their menu does change as I was looking forward to the creme brulee but was absolutely not missing it after ordering their bourbon pecan pie. It came warm, the crust was flaky and the fresh whip cream really added to the whole bite. My friend was deeply satisfied that she got her southern meal and I couldn't stop saying "oh my god" all the way home. It was just an overall very enjoyable experience.

We set up our chairs then went inside to place our order. They have TWO lines. One just for beverages, beer, wine & spirits. Then a food line where you can get both. There was a young lady at the front of the line with a wireless device who took our order and money. Michelle got a Fort Millsner and I got a coke. The lady said: 'they will call your name for the drink order and we'll send you a text when the food comes out' After about 10 minutes, they called my name and ONLY the coke came out. We waited for another 5 minutes waiting for the beer to be called, we never got called. I went back up to the counter and explained what happened and they immediately poured a Fort Millsner. We waited another 20 minutes for our food to come out. I got the 3 salmon tacos and Michelle got the Greenway salad. She said it was 'OK'. The flour tortillas were very dry and there was very little salmon on them. Very little pico de gallo and not much avocado flavor, disappointed. All in all we missed about 40 minutes of the concert performance. VERY disappointed with the lack of service. You're not allowed to bring in outside food or beverage. They can do better. There are SO MANY other things to do in Fort Mill so I hope they can turn it around.
