This place was recommend to me by a couple friends so I thought I would give a shot. Kelly, the owner, was super nice and when she gave me my makeover I was very pleased. She did a great job and she was able to get me done in a timely manner. She also gave me good tips on how to apply my makeup. However, price was not in our discussion and I felt that I overpaid way too much for what I got. I didn't even end up using the products that she used on me(I didn't even take them out of the box or the tissue paper). I went to go return them and the girls offered me store credit, but I honestly wanted my money back. They told me its past the 30 day mark (which apparently is on the receipt). I felt that I was disrespected by not getting my money back. I was very upset and left with giving them the product back and not even getting my money back. In the future, I would recommend this place to people if they a very glamorous makeover for any special occasion and to test products from Italy. However, I would warn them about the high cost. read more

The Powder Room is awful. Kelly, the owner, is rude, unprofessional, and a liar. After she told me (less than two weeks prior to my wedding) that instead of her doing my makeup (even though she did an expensive trial for me 6 months prior and had planned to do it), someone else who I had never met would be doing it. After dumping this news via email, she refused to speak to me directly. Further, when I asked her assistant if I could be refunded for the expensive trial or the additional downpayment for Kelly, they said no because "I wrote the check to The Powder Room, not Kelly." They offered a trial with the other girl on them, however since I live in NJ and would not be home until the Thursday before I got married, this wasn't very helpful. Thank goodness I was able to find another makeup artist just a few weeks before my wedding, who was wonderful to work with and much better (I got lucky!). I would NEVER recommend Kelly or The Powder Room to anyone!!!! Stay away from them! read more

This was hands down the worst experience I have ever had in any store in Cleveland Ohio. I went in for a custom spray tan, which was completely overpriced to begin with. They also require a credit card to hold the reservation. Again, a first. I then came in and had a spray tan which they didn't cover my hair or spray my hands or feet so that my nail beds wouldn't turn discolored. I didn't think much of it other than ok, this is a little odd....but kept my mouth shut and let the owner KELLY do her thing. Then I came home and went to bed and it ruined by sheets, comforter and clothes. Literally, the dye was everywhere. I said to myself, ok, this will come off in the wash. NOPE. My sheets are ruined and $50 later for a dry cleaning my comforter it also didn't come out. Also, after showering, the second set of clothes I wore were stained. Again, a pair of jeans ruined from this experience. I decided to call the owner KELLY to tell her what happened. Instead of being at all apologetic she was defensive. I said that I understand you have never had this happen before but in actuality one of my friends said that it happened to her as well at her store. All I wanted was my money back and she refused. Wow. An unhappy customer and she refused to refund my money. In fact, she didn't even offer me a store credit! She then processed to call me crazy. No joke. This is what she called a paying customer. I would suggest never going to this store. Terrible spray tan but worst off all TERRIBLE customer service. I have never in my life have had anyone talk to me this way in customer service. Kelly, is one of the most unpleasant, unprofessional rudest people I've ever had the misfortune of coming in contact with. She rushed through the entire makeup application was rude and indifferent towards mine or my daughter's requests as to what we where looking for, didn't care that she made up my 15year old to look like a street walker or that we were unhappy with the end result. Even when I asked her to fix My daughter's eye make up, I was told that she doesn't have time, she just wanted to be done and move on to the next "victim". Would never ever recommend The Powder Room to anyone. Please view pictures of the so called "professional" makeup. My 6 year old niece does a better job. Paid $100 this smeared mess. Kelly is far from a professional makeup artist, more like a wanna be. Beware of the hostile, rude unprofessional environment. read more

I came here for a test spray tan for my wedding this upcoming October. I live out of town, and won't be back until closer to the wedding! I have had many spray tans in Chicago. Kelly seemed nice and we got all set up for my spray. I thought it was odd she didn't give me anything to cover my hair, my nails or a disposable pair of undergarments. All of the places I have been to in Chicago do all of the above. The spray machine seemed really outdated, and she had you stand inside a closet with curtains. There was not a ventilated area with fans or anything! After she sprayed me - I was VERY sticky and she gave me a hot air machine to blow all over myself to dry my tan. I have never seen this before? I am paying for a service - why should I have to stand there and dry my tan? Also - the tan places are usually ventilated with regular fans that dry your tan in no time! And I have never been that sticky before! Whatever - I thought I would see what I looked like when I woke up the next morning. I asked her to do just 1 shade darker than my current skin tone. I went to dinner with my family that night and everyone kept commenting how I kept getting darker and darker throughout the evening. I woke up the next morning and my hands and feet were completely stained orange! They looked awful. I was much darker than someone would look with a tan just 1 shade darker. The tan also came off all over my clothes and bedding! If that is not bad enough - the tan continued to come off for the next 4-5 days on EVERYTHING I wore! I even showered 3 times the day after my tan to try to rinse it away. Horrible experience - I would not recommend going to this place for a custom spray tan. There has got to be better in the area. I scheduled The Powder Room for my make-up on my wedding day. I confirmed the arrival time with the owner/make-up artist several times, and even signed a contract stating the latest possible time they would arrive, which fit into our wedding day schedule. All brides know their wedding day is generally jammed full of appointments, so any hiccups in the schedule have the potential to cause an unwanted domino effect...they were an hour and ten minutes late. Apparently happy they were running late because they came in laughing, because of PR's very late arrival, our original plan to include our best-man (groom's brother), and matron-of-honor (bride's sister) in our pre-wedding pictures (being held at an offsite location) were scrapped. I decided not to ruin my amazing wedding day with a confrontation with her, instead I planned on calling after we returned from our honeymoon. When we did return I noticed charges on my credit card for items I did not receive and an additional charge for a service the Monday following the wedding. I called to share my disappointment and frustration regarding the service, or lack of, and she blamed their tardiness on the "hellaceous mother-in-law from the prior wedding party" (a slight contradiction from their original excuse of getting lost....) I did start my make-up artist search later than intended, there was clearly a reason why she was still available and none of the other make-up artists or wedding planners had her on their list of options. None of them. As a business owner, accountability is a necessity and blaming the other wedding party is proof that one cannot handle a difficult situation, and a GPS rather than Map Quest is an essential tool. read more
