They have so many flowers and shrubs - I wasn't able to resist getting a beautiful hibiscus plant that reminded me of my Caribbean childhood. The staff was extremely knowledgeable - helped me plan my containers in such a way as to prevent overcrowding, helped me with soil selection and volume and the specifics of caring for my hibiscus. They carried everything to my car for me and packed the soil into my trunk. Any place that has dedicated parking always gets an extra point from me. They accept cards. Which is pretty remarkable given that the cultural vibe is African, and i am Wonder bread white. They are gracious and kind and really good at what they do. I've stopped buying plants from Pomelo for years thinking maybe it was just me doing something wrong but I recently bought a plant and after 4 weeks this is how it ended up. When I popped over to the shop to see if she could give me some advice (the open sign was visible so I assumed she was open but I guess she wasn't), Caitlin didn't even let me in her store, she said "well I don't know what you want me to do", and she didn't even inspect the plant. She treated me as if I was a threat to her. Speaking to some other folks in my neighborhood she had apparently treated them the same way. I don't think she really cares for the patronage of Black people even though she sits in the middle of a very Black neighborhood. She keeps her doors locked during business hours and seems to be developing a reputation of being nasty to customers, specifically Black customers based on my chats and some of her other reviews. With the poor customer service and the low quality plants/ flowers it may not be worth the cost.
