Mathnasium - Kids get to spin a wheel every so often

We've been visiting Mathnasium off and on for over a year now, and we just love it. Most…read moreimportantly, my child loves it! I have two children who have mathematical minds, and they really enjoy math and logic. However, my oldest has been struggling a bit learning certain math concepts at school, so we visited Mathnasium to get some help. I wanted to be sure that any help we got with math didn't extinguish that love he has for math -- I didn't want him to dread doing math. But Mathnasium makes learning mathematics fun. And the people who work here are super invested in the kids and work very hard to make sure they succeed while having a good time. Our first visit consisted of an evaluation, just to see what my child knew and didn't know for his age/grade. After the evaluation, they could then see what he needed to work on, and they were able to tailor the tutoring to fill those knowledge gaps. The tutoring is all about making sure the kids have the basics down, and then working up from there. I really like that. What my child really liked was that he was able to work up toward prizes. Each page of work he completed meant he got a punch in his punch card, and punch cards could be redeemed for prizes. And the prizes were really good! We're talking board games, water bottles, snacks, and other fun things. There were also lots of fun bonuses throughout the week -- each day you visited, there was usually something interesting happening. Like one day, they celebrated National Chocolate Day by giving out chocolate to everyone who visited that day. Or if it was a tutor's birthday, then everyone got double or triple punches in their punch cards. Speaking of tutors, they were all so very kind and helpful. The tutors seem like high school or college-aged kids, which was nice because I felt like my child could relate to them. You can visit Mathnasium on a month-to-month basis, which I like, because that means we can drop in when I start to feel like my kid needs a math refresher. And it was especially helpful this summer break -- we visited to work out some of the kinks he had with math last school year, and also to keep the skills he had already mastered sharp. I have recommended Mathnasium to real-life friends with kids, and now I'm recommending it to you! I'm sure we will be back at some point, and the best part is that my kid is actually looking forward to going back.

great love it, it is such a great place to help with homework and any questions you haveread more

This review is for the "Light Cafe" at J Everett Light Career Center near North Central High…read moreSchool. Lunch is served from 10:15 - 1 pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the school year. There is free wifi, no tips allowed, and no tax! The prices are extremely reasonable. This place was BUSY! We arrived at 12:45, just 15 minutes shy of them closing for lunch, so everyone else was enjoying their last bites by the time we arrived. We saw a lot of carry out orders...perhaps some teachers were getting their lunches to go?? Well...it took too long for our "waiter" to take our drink order, and then it took way too long for us to get those drinks! Complimentary fried potato chips were served when our drinks finally arrived. My vegetarian friend asked if the chicken quesadilla could be made without the chicken, and he was pleased it could be. We ordered some guacamole and pico de gallo to share, a cup of the French onion soup each, and also some crab cakes to taste. The crab cakes were good. They were topped with greens and aioli, and served over a rich mustard beurre blanc. The guacamole was fresh, and my friend enjoyed the HUGE cheese quesadilla. The food is not fussy or fancy, but it was overall tasty. My friend ended his lunch with the house made cookie dough ice cream. The portion was large, creamy, and delicious (yes, I of course tried some!) The menu changes each week. Students cook and serve the food here. Some of the students we encountered take Light Cafe very seriously, and some of them are still learning how a restaurant and kitchen operate. What a cool concept! Instead of tips, you can donate funds to help support the Career Center. Website with link to weekly menu: http://www.jelcc.com/

J Everett Light Career Center serves as a nursing school. This place is a joke. If you are thinking…read moreabout nursing RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I'm currently in my final semester and it's literally been hell. There is ZERO organization. When you go to orientation they tell you all these lies about how organized they are but once you are signed up that all goes out the window. We have rotations while in clinicals and one of the main items that are on the NCLEX is OB and this wasn't offered to the entire class! Instead we were assigned classroom projects. Also, we were told prior to the summer break to not make any plans for vacations because they, the school, weren't entirely sure of when we would be on break! Who runs a program like this? The financial aide woman is extremely unprofessional, does not return phone calls to your questions, and avoids you at all costs after you're signed up. She literally came into our classroom, crossed her arms and curled her lip because she was upset we had questions about our financial aide. Now, when several students state that you tell them one thing and then you go back on it at a later time who is wrong here? I suppose 7 students who met with her at seperate times came up with a lie? Then when there is a one on one and she's upset because you are asking questions about YOUR financial aide, that is HER job she tries to talk to you like a child. She also, unprofessionally, walks down the hall on the phone with her friends cursing in her place of business. There is zero professionalism aside from a select few teachers. The teachers are also very cliquish and attempt to intimidate students with their grades. Students should be proud of where they attend their training and their school. I however would not recommend this place to anyone ever.
