White Wolf is the best! I joined in August and am so happy I did. The group strength classes are…read morechallenging but manageable and the trainers are always there to provide feedback and corrections. Joe, the owner, is almost always around and the trainers he hires are knowledgable, supportive, and friendly. I started weight lifting at home with some dumbbells during the pandemic and was a little nervous about joining a 'real' gym but I didn't need to be - I really appreciated how welcoming everyone was and how it really feels like a community, even when you're brand new. I also worked with one of the trainers, Theresa, specifically on nutrition. She rocks as well!

Food and fitness is not always a harmonious marriage, but they go hand in hand. For the last month,…read moreI've been an official member of White wolf gym in Salem. After giving birth to burrito last year Phil and I rediscovered our love for food on the Northshore. We realized we were eating out almost every day and decided to capitalize on it by documenting our meals and experiences. The more restaurants we visited and reviewed, the more we wanted to share with our friends and family. This quickly became part of our routine. After doing this for several months, I realized this was supper counterproductive to losing the baby weight and overall health. I started going for 30min walks every day, and when that became super boring, I signed up for planet fitness, and when that didn't yield any results, I started taking yoga classes sporadically. I wasn't able to keep up with any of these for one reason or another, so I decided to move on to something new. As our blog grew and the length of time I spent on Instagram increased, I started to notice this gym pop up on friends' pages or in my feed sometimes in other friends' stories. White wolf seemed to be sending me subliminal messages. I spent weeks creeping and basically stalking their content before I finally decided to DM Joe, the owner. He invited me in to do a 2-week, and the rest is history. Phil and I are still working out some kinks in our routine, and the struggle to attend classes consistently is still there. But there's nothing like taking one of Joe's classes. This gym is the embodiment of Cross training. And Joe always keeps it interesting. I have yet to be bored or come out of a class feeling like I wish I never came. What does happen is your motivation is ignited. I'm continually hearing other members talk about how much stronger they are since coming here or sharing words of encouragement to stick with it and be consistent results will occur. When something in your life is changing you for the better, I feel like you have to share it!

This is how I'd sum up my feelings about TD Athletics- I recently was looking to buy a new home,…read moreand I limited the perimeter of my search because I wanted to stay within an easy drive of the gym. I think that says it all...TD Athletics has apparently become the epicenter of my universe! I am in late middle age, and have struggled with chronic illness for almost a decade. It'd gotten to the point where any exercise I engaged in, supervised by a professional or not, quickly ended in fairly substantial injury. For example, a Gentle Yoga class about 18 months ago caused a painful shoulder injury that lasted over a year. About ten months ago, my physical therapist told me about TD Athletics, and I've been going three times a week ever since. I've worked with personal trainers many times over the years, and these guys are absolutely the best. They are really skilled, helping me tweak my workouts so I don't get hurt. They design evolving, truly personalized workouts that keep me interested and challenged. The environment is extremely positive, and even though I was very deconditioned when I started, they've treated me with great respect and constant encouragement. I am feeling much stronger and able to more easily do basic tasks and activities that were a challenge for me before I started. Also, though not explicitly endorsing HAES, their approach is size-neutral- I'm in a larger body and feel really comfortable there. I can't say enough good things about these guys, and particularly encourage folks who have not had a good experience at other gyms to check them out, you won't regret it.

This is an extraordinary gym, clean and pristine with amazing equipment and is a great asset to…read moreSalem. They follow a functional training philosophy and Tim is very knowledgeable. I was truly sorry that this approach did not work for me as I would love to have continued. Regrettably I'm still rehabbing an injury with PT & pain management after 5 months that happened at this gym. Plus the additional knock-on effects to ongoing conditions. My advice to others who are older with either injuries or have a chronic health condition like myself, is to ensure that the team speaks to your doctor, physical therapist, chiropractor or prior trainers to ensure there is a transfer of critical knowledge to minimize or avoid the potential for additional injuries. While they have many adaptations to exercises, without input from these professionals in my case this was not adequate. The extra information would have added important insights. A great gym if the philosophy and approach is a fit for you. If I could figure out how to give three and a half stars on Yelp that is what I would be do!

Big planet fitness with a good amount of machines. I went at 4pm on a Saturday, and it was…read morerelatively busy, especially the treadmills. It's very possible that this is classic January busy-ness, but if you want a less packed gym, I'd recommend checking the app to see the crowd level. About 90% of the gym goers at the time were men so the women's locker room was very empty and all showers were available (4 showers which is more than some other locations). Overall the locker room was clean and the facility was nice, although the locker area was quite dark. The bathroom had some wet paper towels scattered around which was odd since there was no dispenser for them, but was otherwise relatively clean.

I'm actually super impressed with this PF. Maybe not the staff, but certainly the layout of the…read moreequipment and the space available. We visited on a Thursday evening at 6pm and the place was busy but not too packed yet. This was our first time at this location and we wanted to change our home gym but the lady at the desk was confused and gave us some bizarre information on how to go about that. We just checked in and carried on. The cardio equipment is set up in 2 rows spanning the length of the gym and there appears to be enough for everyone regardless of how busy they are. There is an area with free weights and actual squat racks with space to lay a mat out and workout. There is another area for abs and more free weights in that section. The equipment is laid out in a way that makes ideal sense based on muscle group (I've seen other PFs where machines are just haphazardly placed around) so this was a delight to see. At about 630pm the place was so busy most of the equipment was in use and there wasn't a single spot on the floor to stretch so I hopped back on the cardio equipment. After our workouts we hit up the Black Card Spa zone - I am so glad they have 3 cryo massage chairs. Those are great post-workout! All in all a great gym and I'm really glad its so close to our house.
