Stopped in recently for a couple of beers while waiting for my table to open at Bronx Ale House across the street. They have outdoor seating with tents, in each one is a string of fairy lights. Welcoming regulars got up to sit together so me and my friend could snag a table. The woman bartender working on a Tuesday was fast and friendly. No drafts, just bottles and cans. Blue Moon & Bud are among the offerings. They have a small menu which includes (air-fried!) French fries. Great crowd, and surprisingly quiet for being next to the elevated subway.

The Punchbowl is a neighborhood staple. The building has been here for generations upon generations, evident by the black and white pictures hanging on the wall. We came here one night out of the blue when our regular spot canceled karaoke for the night. When we first walked in we didn't know what to expect because the place looked a little empty but we did hear the music and people were singing so we decided to give it a go. When we spotted a pool table in the back we figured it would be a decent night. The pool table runs on quarters and you have to buy two rounds of drinks if you want to use it. The bartender was very nice and the drinks were decently priced. The bathrooms are clean which is worth it's own star IMO. We played pool while we waited for our turn at the mike. Dawn was the karaoke host for the evening. She is very sweet and have us all hugs, welcoming us to the bar. The crowd is funny. They definitely have jokes but it was all in good fun. We had a good time that night. There were six of us and my husband was the only guy and it felt like some of the male patrons in the joint were a little weird. There were a few encounters that made us all look at each other like, WTH? Bit other than that, everyone made us feel welcomed and I wouldn't mind visiting again for a karaoke performance and a drink.

I don't know who these two ladies were but they had some fr nalgas.

It made an otherwise somber occasion a little less sad. 2/28/26. We had a family memorial luncheon, originally reserved for 16 people, it soon became 20 people. Rory Dolan was very gracious and accommodating, rearranging tables to accommodate the group. We had a section in the upper dining area to ourselves. There's an extensive adult beverage menu, with of dozens of beers on tap and on ice, wines, and liquors. See photos. The food menu had the expected Irish fare; shepherds pie, salmon, corned beef, and cabbage, etc. There were some Italian inspired appetizers and mains, even Korean flavors. Everyone ordered whatever they wanted off the regular menu. Service was impeccable, the restaurant has an inviting ambience. I noticed there were a lot of "regulars" there this particular afternoon. It's still a pretty cool "watering hall". They have live music on the weekends and they also sponsor local event events.

They have a spacious bar and restaurant area, that is conveniently located on McLean Ave. It is a lively space but the decor and dark wood make it seem more like a historic location. I came here for a work event and order the chicken tender and fries. It came out very quickly, even though the bar and restaurant was packed. My food was hot and fresh. I would definitely order this again. Can't wait to stop back in.

We revisited this neighborhood staple yesterday for lunch and was a little disappointed! First, when you walk in, it's dark, I mean really dark, the lighting and decor. We went to sit in a booth that was "aged". To say this place needs a spruce up is an understatement! Even their awning outside is tattered and worn. But we are here for the food! Now realize that we are in a Pub Restaurant, so my review recognizes it's not a fine dining establishment. I loved that they had my harvest ale and they even rimmed it with honey and cinnamon without batting an eye lash, kudos to the bartender! We started with soups, a crock of French onion soup that had me nervous when I first saw the croutons atop instead of bread, but it worked, it was pretty darn good! Now the Soup of the day was chicken vegetable, and even though it was full of fresh chicken and veggies, it had a peculiar taste to it, I believe coming from the peas and green beans in it. It also could have had some rice or pasta to make it better. Onto our entrees! Before I bite into this subject I just want to say our server "Eleni" was very sweet and appeasing and did the right thing at the end, more on that later. The hot open faced turkey Sandwich was good with fresh roasted, thinly sliced turkey with a good gravy on the side. The home made mashed potatoes were delicious as well. Unfortunately, my entree was a disaster! I asked for steak quesadillas with the sour cream and salsa on the side. It arrived plated with a full onion slice and tomato slice on the side on a bed of lettuce (not quite sure what they were for. Garnish?) Now I stated my concerns to our server of getting my steak medium and not over done but alas the steak was like fatty liver! Then orangey salsa also was sub par, thin and bland. Eleni did the right thing though and took it off the check. The prices were reasonable, service good but ambiance and food needs improvement. I'll return in a couple of years and hope they considered my recommendations.
