We continued frequenting this spot even after new ownership as the location is ideal for the area. We've all had so many cool memories here. Hanging with friends and family, NFL Football Sunday's, St. Patrick's Day after parties. Summer Weekend Afternoon Live Music. Unfortunately Covid put a kibosh on most things and calmed the activities down somewhat. Despite the calmed down atmosphere this spot is still one of our go-to's for the occasional drink. As for the food itself, it always seemed basic and not on par with food options from back in the day. It's apparent that improvements on food are trying to be made, so good luck to them on improving. As for the staff, never any issues there, they've always been on point. Some are longtime employees, so you get to know them over the years. Despite some things here and there we are glad that you remain an ol' faithful in our Neck of the woods. 3.5

I would classify the food as typical bar fare with an occasional special that can be a hit or miss. Personally I am a person who find certain meat and textures off putting so I tend to enjoy more lean proteins. The pork chop in mushroom sauce special wasn't something I'd order again because I found that it had many things running through the meat. The mushroom sauce and tortellini were great and I enjoyed them very much. The Fishermans platter was also a special and I found that the fish was really dry but the shrimp and clam strips were tasty and easy to eat. I love the side salads they offer with dinner because they are plentiful and full of fresh vibrant vegetables. The balsamic is also good. Anytime I see they have mussels on the menu, I usually order them. The mussels (for the most part) are clean and not sandy. The sauces are always tasty and they serve it with some bread which is great to get all the sauce! This review is more of a 3.5 because I cant say they have amazing food but it is great food for drinks and for a casual night out. I wouldn't get too experimental on food but I do love this neighborhood staple. The view of the bridge and water aren't bad either. The staff is always quick and generally nice.

While I had heard mixed things about Dakota's, I wanted to check it out for myself. I had been meaning to catch up with some of my IRL Yelp friends, and thought this would be a great place to meet up - so off we went. Dakota's is located right on the water in Throgg's Neck and provides great views of the marina. The dining area is separated into a front room, bar area, back room, outdoor patio, and a biergarten area. The decor and aesthetics have a nautical vibe - think blues, greys, and whites with lots of clean lines. One of my friends told me that the menu is relatively new, as they got a new chef ~ 2 weeks ago. The menu isn't large, in fact it's somewhat limited in my view; there are a few apps, mains, and sides - but I would like to have seen an expanded salad selection (there are only two on the menu) and a sandwich section, especially given the aesthetics and the fact that they're open for lunch. We decided to start by sharing some apps and one of their salads: the tuna tartare, the mussels, and the specific salad name escapes me but it had feta whip. Everything was very good - the tuna was fresh and came with some thin crostini that provided a welcome contrast in texture. The salad was flavorful, but the portion was small for the price and the combination of feta whip with the dressing made it a little too wet. The mussels were great - we chose to have them prepared in a white wine sauce which was super flavorful. It came with two pieces of focaccia which were good albeit slightly stale; crostini would have been better. For mains, we split two: the fish and chips and the linguine with clam sauce. The former was pretty good - two generous pieces of fish, but it could have used more fries; the apple slaw it was served with cut through the heaviness of the dish well. The linguini was also good, however it's hard for me to justify a pasta dish being over $30 - especially in this case where there were relatively few clams and the portion was not big. We also ordered a side of broccoli rabe which was good - though the addition of some garlic bulbs/slices would have elevated it. For desert we split the lemon gelée abd biscoff cheesecake. I wasn't a fan of the former, it had a tough-ish consistency and lacked flavor; the cheesecake was better. Service was excellent; we made conversation with several members of staff while we were there - including the owner. They are really putting an effort in to make this place great and I saw it in all aspects of my experience. Overall, I had a great time at Dakota's; I think they still need to fine-tune their menu, especially in relation to portion sizes and prices. However, if this is an improvement from where they were, then they're taking a step in the right direction.

Great New Bar! Making the neighborhood a better place…read more This bar opened the day before Thanksgiving 2014. It replaced an neighborhood eyesore closed because of back taxes. The renovation is great! Clean, friendly, strong drinks and a couple TVs for various sports. The owners could NOT be nicer! One offered me and my friends shots both times I've been there. The bartenders are a group of sweet young ladies that are cool and never leave your cup empty for long. Dave on Sunday is a funny guy. I really hope this place stays a little more hip then the old school pubs around the area. I've lived in this area for a while and don't feel like I have a local watering hole. Here's hoping! Best of luck BL. p.s. I hope they get rid of the old lady stemware. Why do pubs have those old school grandma glasses???
