Came here for a lunch date, and was happy we decided to go. The service was amazing the waitress was very kind and helpful with me deciding what to get and we couldn't have been more happier with our decisions. The food was so hearty and delicious top notch. Fantastic local Irish bar. The food is phenomenal, the kitchen is open till 10 pm every night. Many of the local bars the kitchen closes before 9pm. I've eaten here many times, the food is great. For a place that's historically been a stinky dive bar (I just remembered that the cat in my photo was a resident of one of the prior locations!), they've really transformed this spot. Hands down best food on McLean Ave. I've had multiple appetizers and entrees there and everything has always been top notch. Super nice bartenders and waitstaff. A little far from the heart of McLean but don't sleep on it. read more

Had a nice dinner here with a colleague after work on a weekday evening. The staff were very attentive and showed us to our table right away. We started off with the whistlin' nachos - the generous portions of cheese and guac made it an excellent appetizer. I had the yonkers burger, which was cooked perfectly, and I loved the onion rings and barbecue sauce on top. The food was ok but I've had better at restaurants around the area. My partner and I went today for St Patricks day. Our server was nice and attentive. Later on in our stay a dark haired older woman wearing a dark shirt (might be the manager) was rushing us and made us feel uncomfortable. She passed the check midway during our meal and then asked if we were going to pay because other people wanted to sit. We told her we were finishing our fries and were going to order more food. She didn't let us and said if we wanted to drink we could go to the bar. Horrible service There's other restaurants in the area with a nicer ambiance, better food, and nicer staff. Ok. I've been here a few times and it's consistently good. My first 10 times here I was just enjoying drinks. Not sure why I didn't try their food. I normally would go to 2 other places that are quite well known for food. That was my mistake. I've now eaten here a few times and damn. Real good prices and the food was right on. Ok , a little slow to get it to me but I'm WAY ready to forgive that of the food is right. Just had the chicken piccata, mashed taters and green beans with garlic and it was just spot on. Was working in the area looking for a great burger and a beer and found the Whistling Donkey ... the place was empty but the menu was full of nice choices settled on the bacon cheeseburger with a great house Celtic sauce ... a mix of ketchup and mayo I think... it came out perfectly cooked on a brioche bun... it was delicious ...?i asked for pickles and they were great... the fries came in a metal basket and they were not only presented well but cooked golden brown with a hint of salt... Very solid pub. I've never seen it too crowded, so it's a great place to grab a few casual drinks with friends because you'll actually be able to hear what everyone is saying. The food is great. Really love their curry sauce - it's creamy, spicy, and comforting. I wish they were open later because I would much rather get my curry chips from there than the chipper truck cafe next store. read more

Came here on a Thursday afternoon for some food. It was empty, but we were happy because we had a toddler with us and we weren't so strict with him being quiet. Not sure it would be the best place for kids if it was crowded. The dining area is a bit small. I heard there is a downstairs but we didn't get to check that out. Food was great! I got the whistling sandwich. They accommodated my change for pepper jack cheese instead of Swiss. It was delish. The other two in my party were very pleased with their food too! No complaints! went to dinner with my wife and decided to try because i heard good reviews. was happy with food very tasty, when it was time to wrap up take home food my wife asked waitress for more sour cream and salsa, to which she came back to table with little covers and said how about you just take home what you have left, WTF ??? would have been more than happy to pay for it, get bill of $47.95 left $70 and left, i know what it is to work for tips, my son is a busser in another local restaurant. that being said, food was really good so went back with my wife last night and another couple, figuring maybe waitress had a bad night last time, sat down outside and had same waitress and we all ordered drinks, drinks came out then 5 mins later waitress comes to table with check from last week and said i shorted her and only left $10 in bill book. Now im mortified/embarrassed that she said this in front of other people! Not only did i give her a tip she didnt deserve, but came back to this place with more people. I would never even think about running out on a bill, and if i did why leave $10???? or come back 4 days later with friends???? I told her right away give me my bill for drinks and cancel my food, abruptly left and had a even better meal down the block at the heritage! this is my first time writing a review because i was so appalled at the audacity of this waitress. when it comes to bars and pubs i am the tag along for a friend or friends and glad that was the case for the whistlin donkey in yonkers on mclean ave. a great place to grab some drinks , watch the games , grab a bite or all of the above . i like the clean old school pub look with brick walls , wooden bars , tables , etc. the menu is extensive with plenty of apps , burgers , salads , entrees , sanwiches, comfort food which includes some irish classics and they even have a kiddies menu which i hope is only served in the back dining area. as my friend and i grabbed a high table across from the main bar counter i notice a dart board and recalled how terrible i am throwing darts so i better just order some mac & cheese with hummus and pita chips and just enjoy watching the yankee game . the food is very good , service is great and prices are decent which all amounts to a really good time. plenty of pubs and bars in westchester and the whistlin donkey is one of the good ones that deserves more then one visit. read more
