For context, we got our dog from the Puppy Place in Wilmington. We got a Goldendoodle and absolutely love him, and overall we had a great experience there. We've even gone back to visit, and the Wilmington location has always been very welcoming. People who came back to visit, brought their previous puppies and even told us, we are coming back to get a second dog because we had a good experience. Recently, I stopped by the Jacksonville location to look at another Goldendoodle. I asked a few questions about the puppy, including the weight of the parents, whether the dog was F1 or F1B, and where the puppy was bred. One of the girls helping us was friendly and answered the questions. After finding out the puppy would likely be smaller than what we were hoping for, I told her that it probably wasn't the right fit for us. Because of that, I asked if we could look at a Labrador instead. At that point, another employee responded rather abruptly and said, "You have to be serious, if you're just here to play, you can only look at one." The comment felt unnecessary and a bit rude. I had asked detailed questions about the first dog because I was genuinely interested, but once I realized the expected adult weight didn't meet what we were looking for, I simply wanted to look at another option. I think it would have been much more appropriate for her to ask whether we were seriously looking to adopt a dog rather than immediately insinuating that we were just there to play with the puppies. The way it was said felt more like a jab than a policy explanation. It was disappointing because we had such a positive experience with the Wilmington location, I've also been to the Jacksonville location before, and they were very friendly and I expected a similar level of professionalism and friendliness. On top of visiting, we've gotten a dog already there and that shows that we are not only visitors, but we could've been second time customers. read more

These are puppy mill pups and NOT purebred at all. If you know anything about specific dog breeds you can tell immediately, the coat colors, the faces, etc. They are sick, sneezing, coughing, throwing up. Charging you thousands for a dog that you can buy the sibling of for a few hundred. They don't have paperwork for the parents, nor do they do any genetic or health testing. If you really care about dogs do NOT give this place your money. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE: In January, we purchased a "Cavapoo" for $2,550. Today, we received the results from the vet's Wisdom Panel DNA test, confirming that our puppy has the genetics of at least three different breeds--none of which include King Charles Cavalier. The DNA test did, however, identify 43% Poodle and 35% Yorkshire Terrier. Be cautious and do your research before purchasing a pet from here. Went to the Wilmington location, which doesn't have a yelp page. The puppies are kept in literal cribs with about 6 inches of newspaper as flooring. They have hamster water bottles that they have to maneuver their heads around to drink from, and only 4 out of 12 of the dogs we saw had a single chew toy. 3 of the dogs we saw were so big that they couldn't move more than a step or two around their crib. Most of these dogs are high energy and need more than just 4 feet or so of space to move around and more toys to teeth. The puppies most likely come from a puppy mill, because breeder information is not even remotely accessible. The staff are absolutely not knowledgeable on any information about the puppies, and had no knowledge of what one of the dog breeds was even mixed with when asked. When my friends and I were petting one of the puppies, the puppy next to us was having a sneezing fit and an employee rushed over to try to get it to stop as if they knew a sign of illness would hinder a purchase. These 3-5k dollar dogs are not worth your money. Adopt or get from an "ETHICAL" breeder. This 3rd party puppy mill is absolutely not the place to go looking for a pet. read more

Went to fill up my tank and saw a place next door names puppy place, decided to take a look inside and was immediately greeted by Hannah and Leah, the puppies were all so cute and playful! any and all questions I had while looking at the pups were answered so professionally by the two employees. Both Hannah and Leah were the sweetest ladies and very obviously cared a great deal for each of the many puppies there. Just visiting today made me want to buy another dog, I highly recommend the puppy place to anyone near Jacksonville who want a new addition to their family. Those pups are in great hands. read more

I had a stroke back in 2022, my husband made me go and find out about this place where there's beautiful healthy animals to buy. I had lost my Bailey bear ( shih Tzu ) the year before my stroke. I was so sad by it. I went in to the puppy place open the door and there he was a gift from my previous animal, a Shih Tzu baby 3 pounds and half. My Mr. Pickles. I had to have him. We had automatic connection. Couldn't even look at any other dogs there. I was able to I was able to hang with him. And I automatically was in love. I purchase him. Expensive but worth every penny. He has cold and they paid for me to take him to the vet. We haven't been back. He is my side kick and we fit together. He is nothing but love. So yes they provide at a big price for love. I took my young daughters to The Puppy Place in Jacksonville NC last week and we were told by staff that we could only play with one dog and that it had to be one for the whole family. Then when we finally got the girls to agree on one dog a staff member came and took the dog away from the kids and I saying "it needed its medicine". This place use to be so friendly and fun. You could hold 3 dogs and they just asked you played with each one for at-least 10 minutes to be fair to the puppies who need love, attention, and to play. We drove from an hour away to play with these puppies because this business use to care about the puppies getting out of their cages in order to get much needed love and exercise. Now it seems they just see the $ involved and their staff is allowed to be rude They come off as to only care if you seem to be a potential new credit line buyer for them to gain from. Knowing that many young, and new Marines live near their business's location. Also the owners being military affiliated themselves, they surely know how to ensure they get the service members to pay their credit lines by utilizing the military members chain of Command. My daughter is special needs and kept asking why she couldn't play with the puppies, why the "worker girl took the puppy she waited all week to play with". What a disappointment The Puppy Place is now days. Just like so many other local Businesses in Jacksonville NC are, they have gone down hill. This is no longer a family friendly place unless you are immediately going to appear as if you are ready to open a 3,000 dollar credit loan to pay off a dog. read more

Selling sick puppies! A mastiff with green snot running from its nose, a bully with very weak crusty eyes, puppies expected to drink from large gerbil water bottles. Very much puppy mill puppies. They require you to hand sanitize between puppies which is an obvious sign these pups are sick. They are asking thousands for these poor babies who are kept in cribs with shredded paper. Thank you so much for not clarifying that my almost $2,800 dog came from a puppy mill. We were absolutely disgusted and heartbroken when we looked up the "breeder" only to find out it is a puppy mill in Missouri. Not only are no better than Pet Warehouse, you also ripped us off for the same dog that the puppy mill is advertising elsewhere for $500 on another website. You pull the sheet over peoples heads by making it look so inviting when you walk in and all the puppies are in baby cribs. For all we know, all the documents we have on our dog, including the bloodline could be completely falsified. Besides that, our vet indicated that something is wrong with her vagina, you also washed her so much, that the oils that protect her hair are gone and she has an upper respiratory infection. We are fully aware of the 10 day policy bs. I am going to make this known to every social media outlet, every person I see. Whoever owns and operates this place, you are nothing but blood suckers and pull on heart strings of people. I feel so horrible and can't help but think an about the parents, of this puppy, the poor mother being used just for her uterus... all of these puppies and how they live. For the general public, don't be blinded like we were, ask for the paperwork up front, look up the breeder information. Before you purchase. If I could file a chargeback I would. Yes the puppies are cute and yes the place looks clean. Honestly me and my husband love puppies and would go in every week sometimes 2-3 times a week to pet them. However thought it was weird how we have two puppies from them and they still didn't remember us. We got a cavapoo and a shih tzu. With the cavapoo all was fine besides his constant bladder problem that we have to get under control. The shih tzu was the issue. I have had shih tzu's I know what they look like and how they act. Tell me why not only does my shih tzu seem crazy but he has long back legs instead of the short stubby ones a shih tzu would have and the more I look at him I start to notice the brussels griffon. But my issue lies with the bullshit lie of the no money down as we had to put money down both times, then the 6 months interest free when we paid interest all 6 months and even paid off both dogs at the mark. Another issue is my shih tzu was sick and when I called within my '30 day health' policy, they said they would call me back and never once did. Now I know that buying from this place is bad enough but I definitely got my karma. I do love my boys but thats because I trained them, I took care of their health needs and much more. For families who could not afford the same care, they are at risk of losing a dog that costs outrageous numbers. Even the papers they give you of the puppies parents look so forced. So yeah this is why I typically go through a breeder. They work with the dogs, they aren't nearly $3k for a puppy and they build a relationship with you. So any arising issues that any puppy have is immediately taken care of. The Puppy Place has a "puppy play area" so you can make a connection with a puppy you are interested in. The Puppy Place also has a payment plan if you cannot to drop the full amount/price. The cost of the puppy is a bit on the pricey side... but for the unconditional love of man's best friend makes it worth it. I had an instant connection with my pup and knew he found his forever home. He did have upper respiratory infection but the Puppy Place did reimburse me for some of the veterinary bill/stuff. This review is for the Wilmington location. I went in to buy a puppy I saw on their website. There were these two workers who refused to identify themselves. So for purposes of this review I will call them Cheech and Chong. They had this super paranoid look about them the moment I walked in the door. Wanting to buy a puppy that cost almost $5000 I had a few questions first. Like I wanted to know about the health guarantee they claim to offer and also see their vaccine record so I could plan on how much the first vet visit would cost. Well these two characters refused to answer those questions. They said after I pay them for the dog THEN they will tell me. I felt like that was kinda shady. After all, who would front them that much money and then HOPE that what they were saying was true? Cheech was staring me up and down like a piece of meat the whole time I was in there, making me feel very uncomfortable. Chong was making a point to hover around me as if I was about to steal the dogs or something. Apparently I was taking too long looking at the dogs because Chong suddenly told me to GET OUT. Or he was going to CALL IN THE LAW. Not exactly the kind of customer service you expect when about to dump $5K on something! As I was being escorted out, this guy comes in absolutely raging because the dog he bought just 2 days ago apparently came down with parvo and died! And these two guys were refusing to refund his money or replace the dog. That told me all I needed to know right there. I am surprised that the better business bureau and attorney general allow this store to exist. Selling sick animals to people and being just all around shady! ***BEWARE***VERY DISHONEST*** My family and I have loved this place for months until we bought our precious puppy. We would visit weekly to love on the pups and thought the staff was so friendly. We fell in love with our Pomeranian and decided to purchase her. The lady working that night was a lady we had not met yet and was very pushy. She offered us 0% interest for 6 months and no money down. so we decided to move forward with the purchase and started with the paperwork. She was unable to tell us what the interest rate would be after 6 months and claimed that this company didnt offer any paper work for me to review. She couldnt show me the interest rate on paper or the offer for 0% interest. She just kept reassuring me it would be 0% interest for 6 months. I'm an honest person and thought she was as well, so I believed her. We took our pup home and about a month later received my first bill in the mail, not only did they have a 34% interest rate, there was no offer applied for 0% interest for 6 months. I called the creditor and they said the puppy place would have to apply the 0% interest to my account. So i called the puppy place and they said i would be refunded from the card company after i paid interest and paid the card off in 6 month. This sounded crazy. I have never heard of such and just knew i had been lied to. Upon contacting the creditor again my concern was confirmed. This is not something they offered and I was being lied to by the puppy place. I was finally able to talk to the girl that sold me the puppy. She acted like she didn't even know who I was and just lied and lied over and over again saying she didn't say that and I signed the paperwork. She knew what she did but wouldn't take responsibility for it. she said the manager would contact me the next day but never did and she hung up on me. This is not an honest business. They lie and do whatever it takes to sell you a puppy. As I have been reading reviews I now see they have done this same thing to other people. Do not get any animals from this location. We ended up spending $2000 for a 10 week old puppy. They neglected his kettle cough. The vet said within 24 hours if we did not get this puppy he would have died. We have already spent over $3000 putting him in an oxygen tank because they neglected the kettlecough he had severe life threatening pneumonia. They said he was clear on the paperwork but yet had a cough and they gave him kettle cough medicine, so which is it. read more

Super dissatisfied with this place. My husband and I go here every week on Tuesdays since that's when their new shipment of dogs come. We've been on the look out for a male goldendoodle and yesterday found the perfect one which was marked down to $1000 since they were having a hot sale on their dogs. We got super excited and even played with the dog. We fell in love needless to say. Mind you the dogs information was next to a big sign that said $1000. Once we got up and asked about pricing with their hot flash sale they let us know that the dog was $2700. We were in shock and confused they said that the price tag was incorrect and accidentally placed there. We were heartbroken and they said they could do nothing about it. Any other place would have given you the dog for what it was marked as originally. Super upset we went to pet warehouse down the street and found out they get their dogs from the same breeders and are significantly cheaper. What an amazing pet store! My family and I drove past this store and decided to take a look at all of the puppies. I will have to say this is the cleanest pet store I have ever been to. So many cute puppies to choose from, It's hard to choose just one which is why we took home two! Both puppies just had their first vet checkup and the vet said they both are definitely happy healthy spoiled puppies. PLEASE do not buy a dog from here... a glorified puppy mill located right off base for a reason, NO dog whether it comes with papers or not should be 1300$, Shelters and adoption centers send dogs home spayed/ neutered all UTD on vaccines/ preventions/ and a heath history, plus partially trained, and are passionate about the animals they are trying to rehome for a 13th of the cost. Did you meet both parents, how is their temperment? How do they look? How is their behavior? What are these people doing to better the breed and not flood the county with more unneeded dogs? Please go walk thru a shelter before purchasing a dog. Consider before getting a dog how much mental and physical stimulation you are going to give it, is the breed align with your lifestyle?
