This was our first stop in town while visiting family, and man did it NOT disappoint. I had the candied bacon BLT and the Gouda Soup, while my dad and brother both had pulled pork and chili. The bacon was the best I've had in my life. It somehow had a charred taste while being gooey goodness. The pulled pork had a unique, slightly sweet taste and it melted in your mouth. The beanless brisket chili was insane. The local craft beers they had on tap were spot on too. I'm picky about my ciders and the blackberry cider was spot on, I tried my dad's porter and it was one of the best I've had as well. This place is a MUST visit in Ludington! read more

This is the 5th time we've eaten here during our yearly visits to Ludington. The first time they had just opened...so very good. The menu was smaller, but focused on the meat and it was perfect. My husband and son said the brisket was the best they had ever eaten, so each time we returned, they ordered the brisket. However, this year, there was no brisket. He explained to the person in front of us that the prices had gone up and they didn't want to raise their menu price so they were waiting for it to go down. A possible solution might be to charge market price and let the customers decide what they're willing to pay. The customers behind us had to rethink their order as well...it's clearly a favorite. It's that good. The menu was extended when we returned last year, my family stuck with the basics, but I tried a bowl and regretted it, too much of everything but the meat. I should have learned from the experience I had last year, but this year I ordered the Loaded baked potato with pulled pork. Loaded was taken to an all new level...the dried out potato was difficult to find under the fried onions and cheese, more doesn't mean better. If I were to come back, I'd stick to the star of show....the meat. As we walked out we noticed the windows on the side were plastered with political commentary. Let's just say you might want to reconsider coming here if you're a Republican (they DESPISE you) or Independent, or Centrist for that matter. I'm not sure what would happen if you had any kind of MAGA clothes on. I would bet they wouldn't serve you. I actually agreed with many of the comments, but we just came to have some delicious BBQ on our relaxing vacation and escape from civilization. I was told by locals that this was the place to visit for barbecue in Ludington, and yes, this is the spot! We came here for a quick lunch on a weekend. We wanted to order everything on the menu because it all sounded so good, but we ended up ordering the pastrami reuben and the BBQ pork sandwich, plus a kids pork sandwich and a kids grilled cheese. We all loved our food, including my kids, who are usually hard to please at barbecue restaurants. Kids meals come with a choice of apple sauce or chips. If you are into sides like I am, you will find many delicious choices. They have baked beans, coleslaw, collard greens, potato salad, apple sauce and more. We ended up choosing to get a side of the candied sweet potatoes and a side of pasta and cheese (this is what they call mac and cheese). Both were amazing. The Q Smokehouse is neat because they have artwork on the walls from local artists, which are all for sale. And speaking of local, they also sell local sodas (Faygo!) in several flavors. The people who work here are also very friendly and welcoming. I got empanadas ( a special, really good, best crust!), and a combo plate of ribs and brisket, with mashed sweet potatoes and cinnamon apples for my sides. Take it for what you will, but there is no "BBQ" place in Michigan I prefer more than this small corner establishment in Ludington. I'll go further to say that their smoked pastrami (I know, by definition, it's at least cold smoked) is among my favorite dishes in all of Michigan. A moist, briny exultation of culinary excellence. Food: We have tried the smoked chicken, beef brisket, and the pulled pork. Flavor was on point. Meat is smoked beautifully. Tender & juicy perfection. Seriously delicious. Applesauce - amazing! Coleslaw & Mac were also good. Nothing fantastic. We had their house bbq sauce and it was tasty, but also wasn't needed because we were just enjoying the true flavor of the meat so much. Size/Portions were weak for a price that felt it should've packed a little more... that's the only downfall on the food. Service is fast, we've had mostly friendly service. Only once did I feel rushed, but they weren't being rude or anything. You could just tell they wanted me to make up my mind, which I struggle to do - especially if I'm somewhere I don't go often! We live two hours away so we only come here occasionally when we're in town for vacay. I recommend this place to anyone that asks me where to eat when they go to Ludington. After 10 years of living in the South, I tend to be leery of BBQ places north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Kind of like sushi in the Mid-West. But we were hungry, in a hurry and Q was right in front of us. What a happy surprise! The pork I had was moist and succulent. The potato salad was perfect (you'll note there are MANY ways to prepare potato salad). Service was great and enthusiastic. If we lived in Ludington, I'd eat here often. Is this the best BBQ I have ever had in my life? No...but it's still pretty darn tasty. The crew here uses quality ingredients and they know their way around the smoker. I had a 2 meat combo platter with ribs and a chicken breast. The ribs are off the bone and not too fatty. The chicken was a bit of an underachiever on size but on flavor was running with the big dogs...errr...hens. sides of creamed corn pudding and collard greens were even better than the meat, which was pretty good. The staff is friendly and genuinely want the customers to enjoy the food. The only things I would change--the sauces are a bit heavy on everything. The Carolina Sauce punches in the face and the Mole has no subtlety to it. And...and this is a big one...if you're going to put out plastic tableware at a place like this it has to be sturdier than what they put out. Minor complaints, all in all. Great atmosphere. Absolutely delicious! When I bbq I like to taste the seasonings and the smokey flavor. I love the concept of this restaurant because they do not smother the meat with bbq sauce. The chicken was so juicy and moist. I ordered a half chicken and only ate half during lunch, but trust it was so good that I could've eaten the whole half chicken.
