    Green curry with salmon.

My partner had the special which was green curry with salmon. He loved it enough to say he would drive the 2 hours from home to have it again. I had Thai basil fried rice veggie it was good. The portions are large I could eat that 2 or 3 more times as leftovers. One of the highlights was the chicken satay, peanut sauce was lovely with a fresh cucumber salad! We were told this is a family business ( I think grandma is in the back cooking ) and just getting started. The location is odd and a bit too easy to miss. It's attached to the front of the Econolodge. It's worth finding. The ambiance doesn't match the wonderful high end food but they seem to be putting their money into the food. It is clean.

Arguably the best food in Manistee. A little hard to find, but handmade crab rangoon and sauces without artificial flavoring

The restaurant can get busy, which means it naturally gets a bit loud. I loved the overall atmosphere and vibe of the pub, even if it was a bit overwhelming with all the people and noise. This place is clearly the place to be, because it was definitely the place everyone was. I would definitely give them a second try next time I'm in Manistee but I'd do takeout.

It had the standard toppings--avocado, corn, black bean, tomato, tortilla chips. But the cheese was melted on top, like a kind of crunchy/chewey plate--it really looked like it was topped with a mini pizza. Not sure that enhanced the salad, but overall it was fine. Instead of dressing, it came with tubs of sour cream and salsa to mix in. I do that at home sometimes, so can't complain. The lettuce was fresh and crispy. Decent beer selection, including a quite a few bottled ones, which I hadn't noticed until after I ordered my pint of Two Hearted. Be sure to ask for a bottle menu. I sat at the bar and the server regularly looked in on me. Wasn't too noisy, in spite of the tight space that was full when I stopped in on a Sunday night. Nice little spot to check out in Manistee.

I had barely set foot in the door when the two bartenders at the bar greeted me warmly and welcomed me in and told me I could sit anywhere I wanted. I sat at the bar and as recommended by a local, I ordered the pepper jack crab soup, which was delicious. One thing to be aware of: don't expect real crab in the soup. Imitation only. But it's plentiful and delicious on a frigid winter day. The bartender recommended the roasted chicken or the perch, and living near another great lake and always having ready access to perch, I decided on the broasted chicken. I was not disappointed. It came with four pieces, choice, potato, and a choice of another side. It was way too its food, but I ate more than I thought they would because it was that good. I will definitely return to the painted lady!

Situated on a corner where two roads meet, this place has all the fixin's of a place with stuff on the walls. Classic hole in the wall pub decor, classic hole in the wall pub tables and chairs. It's one of this places where when you walk in, you're there. Locals, strangers, friends, enemies, lovers. They're all there. So come on in, pull up a stool, and let's get down to business. I will say service was great. I may be a little biased as the waitress said I was the only one in her section. But I'm going to instead assume it's because I'm such an amazing patron. Hilarious and handsome to boot. Or at least the hilarious part. Hokay. So. As much as I'm a huss for bar food, I'm even hussier for wings. So, naturally I ordered the wings. Bone in, as god intended. Buffalo sauce, as Darwin intended. They came perfectly saucy, perfectly temperatured, and perfectly in a little bowl kind of thing. They were meaty and juicy. Loved the flavor. I would eat my body weight in them, and my body weight is not small numbers. I kept the main course simple. Half pound burger, deluxe (lettuce, mayo, tomato, onion). Added mustard. Ketchup's on the table. Then as my side I got the sidewinder fries which are kind of like spiral potato wedges. The burger was pretty decent. The size was good, but the flavor was a little underwhelming. I'm pretty sure the patty was one of those pre-made deals that come in packages. I could be wrong, but that's just what it looked like. Regardless, if I had ordered a burger that was more of a specialty, there might have been more flavor involved. The fries though were pretty good. They're thiccc. Thick fries save lives. I have been here before, a couple times, and would certainly come back as their menu does have a wide variety of food. Don't be bashful. Much like the small, quaint little places of yesteryear. Typical diner decorations, typical diner servers, and typical diner patrons. This was textbook. It was super busy when I got there, but by the time I left there was probably a 10-15 minute wait at the door. But you know these breakfast places keep takin' 'em in and puttin' 'em out. Since I absolutely despise anything where all my breakfast foods are mushed together (pizzas, burritos, omelets, scrambles, hitches, macros, and fizzles), I opted for the more traditional route of "food on a plate, maybe touching a little bit." It's kind of like the difference between kissing cousins and married cousins. This episode of breakfast will be brought to you by: chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, American potatoes, bacon, and toast. Special guest, chocolate milk. I'm a little trollop for chicken fried steak. Or really anything fried with a layer of gravy. This one wasn't bad. Had decent flavor, gravy portioning was good. I would welcome it back like a close friend. The eggs were good as well. Since my body can only consume scrambled eggs, anytime they aren't runny or have that weird cooked-too-long skin on them is a win in my book. I would embrace them again like a long lost relative. The American potatoes (or how I always have to ask for them because I can never remember the name "those little potatoes that are chunks"), were good with the ketchup. Cooked the way they were supposed to be. I would sit next to them again on a bus. The bacon. Oh, the bacon. If you're a breakfast place and serve bacon, this will make you or break you in my eyes. The hardest thing I have ever found so far are restaurants that claim to know how to do floppy bacon. Limp bacon. Soggy bacon. Whatever you want to call it. They always claim they know how, then they bring out bacon I could harpoon a fish with. I want bacon I can tie together like shoelaces. Sadly, this bacon missed the mark. I would turn this bacon away at the door. Ultimately, it was a breakfast place. It did what it set out to do. Chocolate milk 10/10 Made up breakfast foods 3/3 Flaccid bacon 5/10

We spent a…read morelong weekend in the Manistee area and got a recommendation to eat at The Glenwood which was just a short drive north from where we were. I called for reservations the day before and found that only very early or very late was available. We also were given an option of seating in the restaurant or on the porch. We chose the porch and early reservation. We were seated at a nice table with a view of Portage Lake. We started with wine, (even though we bought copious amounts of wine on our trip, the wine list couldn't be ignored) my wife enjoying a glass of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc and me a glass of cab. It was recommended we try their Almond Battered Shrimp. This appetizer was served with a cherry mustard sauce that was wonderful. The menu said jumbo shrimp and yes, they were jumbo with that nice "steak like" texture and flavor. For dinner my wife ordered the Whitefish special (Whitefish is on the regular menu but the special preparation was a bit different). This presentation had wilted spinach, onions with a light Parmesan crust. She let me try some and we both agreed this was the best whitefish either of have ever had. I ordered the "Everything Tuna". This was yellowfin tuna with light and dark sesame seeds, poppy seeds. onion, garlic and salt. I ordered it extremely rare (so rare a good vet could resuscitate it) with wasabi. This was a taste sensation. Dinners included broccoli and an excellent salad. The dressing was so good we bought a bottle on the way out. A "loaf" containing four rolls was also included. Our server was Cyrillia and her service was as outstanding as it gets. Often when I'm enjoying service of this calibre, I look around and see if we just got lucky or is everyone getting great service. It seemed that the service standard at The Glenwood is high. On the drive back to our hotel, we tried to come up with restaurants we've enjoyed as much. The list is slim with The Glenwood at or near the top.
