They also carry a huge variety of sewing supplies, including zippers in just about every color, making it a one-stop shop for all your sewing needs. The store is exceptionally clean, fresh, and organized, which makes shopping such a pleasant experience. On top of that, the owner is incredibly kind, welcoming, and provides outstanding customer service. I don't mind the drive at all because it's absolutely worth it. Pick up and delivery was also spot on, extreme care was give to our furniture when it was picked up and delivered. Being this was the first time we had any furniture reupholstered I wasn't sure if we made the right decision, but decided to move forward after we went furniture shopping. Having our old furniture returned to us better than new was way more than we expected and we are thrilled with the decision we made and the company we chose. I've driven past this shop for months now and it's been discussed at my knitting club so after finally having a new project on hands + reason to visit; I decided to drop on by! StitchStop conveniently has a small parking lot available around back on Moorpark so you won't have to wander the neighboring streets for parking. The pricing of their notions (zippers/thread/needles/hooks) overall is competitive and better than the (sadly) recently vacated nearby Joann's Fabrics also in Sherman Oaks. That said; their selection is limited, likely as the shop is still new and finding its footing + small store room. For example; I specifically dropped in for both circular knitting needles in a size I wanted a longer cm length in for the cardigan project I'm on + a brown zipper. While they had 2 lengths of circular needles for all sizes available; both weren't long so I couldn't pick up what I needed here. However, they had a ton of zippers in different sizes and colors! Yarns here include both acrylics and naturals (both 1 color and dyed). Fabrics are predominantly cotton in fun prints or fleece blanket type fabric, absolutely no spandex spotted, limited chiffon. There are some nicely priced vintage patterns available.

I've headed to DTLA in the past for fabric, but I wasn't looking forward to that for just 1 yard of black cotton. So I grabbed a GF and headed to Canoga Fabrics in Canoga Park. While I was at first a bit surprised at the small space, I quickly realized there was A LOT to offer. HELLO Joseph! I asked for black cotton and he showed me a sampling to check out while he finished with other customers. I found THE PERFECT SHADE OF BLACK! I just needed 1 yard, so Joseph got that cut quick as a whip, I paid cash, and out I went. $8 for a yard of 60" black cotton is VERY FAIR. Sorry I forgot to snap pics, I think I was delirious with delight at being able to tick this errand off my list! I now have a new fabric option for the rare times - yeah, like once a year - I have a project to complete. While there is a Public Parking lot behind Canoga Fabric, I parked at a meter on the street and fed in enough for 2 hours so we could check out a few other places I was surprised about along this corridor of Sherman Way. The colors are beautiful and there are plenty of weights to choose from. Many of the yarns come with variegated colors, but I opted for a straightforward uniform color as I'm learning how to knit. The person behind the counter was super helpful, too. She got me set up with the right knitting needles and helped me pick out a rich, earthy orange to work with. My understanding is that the shop offers lessons for folks looking to learn as well. So it's a one-stop shop for folks who might like to pick up a new hobby and learn how to implement it all in one.

But the shop has completely not kept up with the times. Not having your inventory priced with tags is a no-go, full stop. "It's too hard" or "we have too much stuff" are not acceptable explanations when it creates a really awkward situation for everyone involved: the owner, who has to look up prices individually, and the customer, who may be caught out at the register when something is out of budget. Their tenure is evident by the sheer volume of things they have, and to their credit, their stock is extremely varied and large. Quite easy to lose two hours here. But I found the service hot and cold: they'd sometimes follow me around, but respond coldly when I asked questions. The pricing structure and service just made this a really unpleasant experience that was not at all offset by their large stock. I will skip this when I'm in the area and won't be recommending to friends.
