We saw a patron come in, looking for charcoal, and there was a bag hiding behind the front door! We stopped by, as we had heard about Mr. Jay's famous burgers - we ordered one to share, open to any toppings he recommended - ours came with fresh Romaine lettuce, sliced onions, a hot pepper spread, sliced fresh jalapenos, cheese, and mayo, all nestled in a locally baked bread. This was a simple, but a tasty burger! The freshly-ground beef is picked up every morning, from the slaughterhouse that is across the street; I don't really want to think about that all too much, but just know that what you're getting is some fresh proteins! Mr. Jay also grows his own peppers and such, so you'll taste the freshness! There are a few comfortable chairs around the store, so you can definitely just sit and enjoy your food, or take it to go - we opted to dine-in, and we almost fell asleep since we were that cozy and relaxed! HA! Mr. Jay is also known as the Mayor of Oella, so be sure to sit and listen to his stories - he's so kind, personable, and has a lot of history to share! The catfish fillet was big, so big that I only ate it, the shrimp and salad, and saved the wings for later in the evening. My litmus test for chicken wings is how do they taste cold. Momo's wings past the test. I was up late watching Netflix and decided I wanted a snack and headed directly to the wings. They were room temperature and I added nothing else to flavor them. GOOD STUFF! My only complaint is that they forgot to put my bean pie in my bag and I had to return to the store. MoMo's is a good neighborhood carryout with a good selection of fish, chicken, and deserts.

It was about 8 to 10 skinless thin thighs seasoned and fork tenderness served in its own plate, then another plate with rice and the fixings. Think of a fajita sizzling plate and side plate of the fixings, same as this dish. I would definitely visit again! It wasn't hot it was room temperature. What lost me was the sauces that go on top. I ordered all 3 so that I could see which one I liked. White sauce taste like yogurt .... Ahhh no thank you I wasn't expecting that. The red sauce is like a spicy ketchup but it just didn't do it for me. The green sauce was mild somewhat but not good enough for me to spread across my bowl. That's the one sauce that is close to my liking but it's not quite there yet. The salmon bowl we ordered the purple rice and it taste like regular rice just colored in my opinion. Corn was cold .The salmon wasn't hot when I dug my fork into it no steam or anything came out so I'm not sure how long it sat before we received it. Mind you we ate inside of the restaurant so there was no gapped time in between preparation and delivery. We did order french fries and I must say they were really good. Again not hot but room temperature. We did try the signature lemonades, rose and mango flavored. The mango flavored was delicious the rose was okay. I did have something floating inside of my lemonade that was green mind you I didn't order anything green ( lettuce or guacamole) but once I told the guy at the register he quickly corrected it and gave me a newer one. I got a large rice platter with mixed chicken and lamb. The shredded chicken was okay; could have used more seasoning or something, but that's why they give you white and/or red sauce. The lamb was basically cubed gyro meat, which I enjoyed; I would get a platter of just this next time. You can add as many toppings as you'd like, including onion, lettuce, tomato, chickpeas, pickles, and hot peppers. Make it what you want. For $9.99 (as of 2025), that's a bargain for the amount of food you get. Overall it tasted pretty good. I think if I come back I'm going to try out the falafel and/or the fried chicken sandwiches. The folks are friendly and fast. The whole place, staff and clientele, seemed to be a melting pot of every ethnic group imaginable - Woodlawn baby, gotta love it.
