Junk peddlers that overprice everything, do not understand even the basics of record grading, are rude to the point that it seems intentional. Read the other reviews. This is really nice little store. Pretty much everything here is older music, you won't really find new music here. That being said I still had a great time and found stuff I liked even as a younger person. Prices seemed a little bit on the higher end. The gentleman that helped me with checking out was polite. If you're into old music I'd definitely recommend giving this spot a visit, they had a lot of big names and it won't take too long to search through everything they have. read more

The owner John here is extremely dishonest. He sold me multiple items that were defective, and his greed was apparent due to the misrepresentation of the items and his unwillingness to make the situation better. I have dealt with hundreds of store owners/patrons/dealers and never met one as disrespectful and dishonest as John. Read the other reviews, they speak volumes of his character. read more

Beware ordering on line. They don't listen to the records they sell. Fair enough, that would be very difficult. But if you get a record that skips a lot they will offer to refund your money, but you have to pay to return it. Doesn't seem fair to me. They advertised a record as "vinyl, strong vg," (very good). It's fair to good, at best, and skips a lot. read more

These people were selling something via Facebook Marketplace. I reached out and they sent me their address. In all fairness their first reaction was "it's a first come, first serve". I tell them that I am almost 2 hours away. Can I Venmo the money and I will be there in 2 hours, bc I don't want someone to buy it while I am traveling so far? They tell me they much rather prefer cash and they will hold it for me. I immediately bounce up and leave my home. I text them and tell them I am on my way. My communication never faltered. I arrive and they tell me "bummer, we just sold it 5 minutes ago". Are you kidding? Are you effing kidding?? Crummy, horrible morals. Normally I would cheer for such a mom and pop shop. We need more places like this in our country. But certainly not run by people like this. I spent almost $50 in tolls and gas + 4 hours of wasted time. They could have said, sorry we are sticking to our first come first serve rule. They could have contacted me and said, how far away are you because we have a buyer in front of us. But no, they led me to believe that I was not wasting my time. I even offered to pay up front in advance. Knowing I was coming from such a distance - this has really set me off! read more

Went into this store on 4/23/2023 to look around for some stuff. I've shopped at this store many times over the past several years. I was not greeted by John or the female that works there. They instead had a lengthy conversation with another customer and all three of them talking at the same time was very disturbing and made it hard for me to concentrate on what I was looking for. Also, they were discussing personal things with that customer. Sorry, but I don't go to a record store to hear the other customer talking to John and the female about somebody getting divorced, and this was after hearing the guy chatterbox about his record collection for at least 15-20 minutes. This is unacceptable and I'm not so sure about shopping there again. Kind of disappointed. read more

This used to be one of my favorite record stores. I live about 2 hours away and would try to shop here every time I was in town. I even shopped here online. Record Store Day is one of my favorite days of the year. It's a legit holiday to me. I came here on RSD 2017, spent a small fortune, and had a GREAT time. I especially loved the official RSD tote I received with my purchase. I had it displayed in my home all year long. Today was RSD 2018 and of all the participating record stores, the ONLY place I wanted to go was here. I drove over 100 miles with my family (3 kids) to get here. With my 2017 tote in hand, I was happily greeted at the door by Sue. I showed her (and a male staff member) the tote I brought from last year. We spoke for a few minutes as I searched the selection in front. I slowly made my way around every inch of the store. The band performing even played an impromptu song about the rubiks cube my son was playing with. As I browsed the records, I placed my selections into my record tote. I was not sneaky about putting records in it and I had multiple conversations with staff members while I browsed. After about 1 hour of browsing, the store owner John walked up to me near the back of the store and forcibly grabbed my tote out of my hands and made a bee line for the register, telling Sue to ring up my purchase. Still confused, I approached the register to see/hear John telling Sue "he was stealing." Taken aback, I pleaded with the owners, swearing to them that I had no intentions of stealing records from them. John stormed off before I could finish my first sentence and had NO interest in having a conversation with me. I asked Sue and the other gentleman working that if my record bag was such an issue, why wasn't it addressed as soon as I walked through the door, showing it off? I even showed John my active duty military ID card, but it didn't change anything. My pleas fell on deaf ears. John could have resolved this situation at any moment but simply chose to label me as a common criminal. If I was trying to steal, I wouldnt have brought my family and spent so much time in their store. Even after my significant other pleaded with them, I was never given an apology for any miscommunication or perceived theft. I was simply instructed repeatedly to leave. My 2018 RSD has been ruined and this business has lost a die-hard customer for life. I will tell as many people as I can to steer clear of this business. read more

This place is the coolest. The owner's love of music shows from the inside out. Wall to wall collectible vinyl is my kind of a place. Located in the sleepy cool old school town of Bordentown this place rocks. My husband, friends and I went to see The Dickies play here the other night- and it was awesome! 3.5 stars I've been meaning to go here for over a year and a half. I finally managed to wander over last month.The Record Collector is located on one of the main streets in Bordentown. As you enter the store you can see racks of records in the back, and a rack of newly acquired records to your left. There is an area with CD racks in the front and some small tables with stools. The rock and jazz CD selection was underwhelming. I wasn't surprised, since it is mainly a record/vinyl shop. But I was hoping I could find a few gems. Their CD prices were a tad higher than places in Philly, both for new and used CD's. Their record selection however, that was pretty good. They had a nice jazz section in the back. I probably spent at least an hour perusing their used jazz LP's. I finally had to quit after piling up a good stack o' vinyl. The prices on their LP's were pretty decent for the most part, though there were a few records where the price was a little much for the condition of the LP. The store owners were very nice and friendly. They seemed to know everyone that came into the shop and talked with them. I checked out with my new treasures and went back home to check them out. Nice selection on LP's and reasonable(for the most part) prices. I'll be back at some point. read more

Took my son here to pick up some used records. The store is kinda grimy. My son said "this place smells like gross ham sandwiches". The woman I talked to was nice and helpful. When I went to the register I believe the owner was there. He was on the phone and was rather rude. I guess customers with cash in hand can be kinda bothersome. I had been a big fan of Graham Parker Rumour. I even caught their act a couple of times back in their heyday. A friend of mine said that Graham was playing at the Record Collector and asked if I wanted to go an I said YES. He called for tickets the very day (before they went on sale). Our tickets were in the first row. This place is small - living room small. What a show. Do yourself a favor and get on their mailing list. When you see an act that interests you call for tickets - they sell out fast. read more

Definitely a great vinyl store! Has a nice mom and pop feel with a great variety of music. The people working there were very friendly and helpful. That is always a great quality in any store especially for music stores in my opinion. My only complaint is that 50% of the vinyls are overpriced. I don't mind paying $5 more for a vinyl (I usually pay that just in shipping when I buy online)but when it gets to $10-$15 overpriced it kind stinks. The vinyls seem to be graded properly with the price range. A lot of stuff to look at. Most vinyls were shoved in the racks and were kinda hard to look through. Was able to find 2 vinyls that I do not have and at a decent price. Will definitely be back in the future! 4 Stars! read more

Overpriced! way overpriced! You can discogs most of the vinyl here and find it's on the high side. Selection leaves much to be desired as they don't really have much, the used Rock section is a few rows, other genre's less than that. You'll be in and out of this store in about 15 minutes. I would have rated it lower but the owner is really nice and very helpful. read more

The Record Collector is a nice store in a nice location in the historic city of Bordentown. The person who was working when I visited was very nice. However, the selection of used records is pretty slim and VERY overpriced. I can understand paying extra for a mint condition record, but the albums here are usually beat up. Also, they have new vinyl mixed in with the used, which is a big pet peeve of mine. This store has so much potential. Hopefully it will get better. Until then, I will be shopping elsewhere. read more

came here over the weekend to see my friends band play, and it was awesome! the shop itself has any and every album you could ever want -- and from what I understand, the owner will special order things for you if he doesn't carry them! This is one of my favorite places to go. There is so much music available in so many media. I love seeing the new artists on vinyl because it reminds me that music is timeless. The staff is really friendly and they know music. The events they run at the shop are intimate and a lot of fun. You're literally sitting a few feet from the performers. I've taken a lot of chances at their shows, and never been disappointed. They have a nice assortment of older collectible items too. If you're in the Bordentown area, you owe it to yourself to stop by the Record Collector. read more

The Record Collector is a decent store. Prices are on the mid to higher range and I usually find one or two things. My biggest issue with them is the turnover for vinyl isn't that fast. I've been a few times in the past two years and often see the same records. Can't blame the store for it rather the lack of people selling collections. It must be tough with Princeton Record Exchange in close proximity and another record store a few blocks down. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I've never been to any of the shows they have but I've heard good things. They're a good store. Not great. read more

Very nice shop with a decent vinyl selection. Didn't really look at the cd's. Ended up buying 5 albums for $90. A little steep but all were in great shape. Owners were very friendly and talkative. I'd definitely go back, especially to look for Jazz, blues and folk albums. read more

i purchased an album from this store using discogs.com a few months back. long story short, i WILL NOT be buying from any seller named "the record collector" or "bordentown record collector" ever again simply because when i contacted them to dispute receiving my album, they accused me of lying and my neighbors of stealing. i had an open investigation at the post office, which turned up nothing. I'm still getting updates from the post office that nothing has turned up. my neighbors knew nothing of a package being delivered. i have no reason to assume otherwise. so, a few months later, i'm purchasing a record through amazon, and the thought of this $100 item not arriving from the Record Collector made me upset all over again. so i'm posting this now. beware. read more

As a long time music nerd I often pop into record stores while on the road. I stopped by the Record Collector on a whim today after finding it online. I was immediately greeted by one of the staff as I walked in, which is always a nice change from the too often encountered stereotypical record store snobbery I've experienced over my years of collecting. The store was well organized, well stocked & every staff member I encountered were polite, helpful and welcoming. Unfortunately I was on a time constraint, so I feel like I only scratched the surface of their collection. That being said I still managed to grab a handful of stuff to buy. The only down side is the records were definitely on the steep side of the pricing scale, but not so high that I didn't buy them. If I ever find myself back on the area I'll definitely stop back in! read more
