I Came Here On Purpose...and They Blew It! With gas pushing $6 per gallon, I decided to explore a closer scrap yard option instead of driving all the way to Kent. So I came to The Recycling Depot deliberately -- on purpose -- to compare their prices against other yards in the Seattle area. I left knowing one thing for certain: they don't know what fair pricing looks like. They paid me $0.03/lb for steel. That's right -- three cents. My load was 700 lbs of steel, and they handed me $21.00 for it. That same steel would've been worth around $42 elsewhere (or more depending on the yard). Add in stainless, aluminum, and brass, and my total ticket came to $31.25. Laughable. For comparison, Binford Metal Recycling in Kent would've paid me double on steel alone. That's $21 straight out of my pocket they basically stole -- and that's just one metal. The difference on a full load like mine? Easily $50-$60. Real money. Real loss. And the worst part? No transparency. No explanation. Just: weighed it, printed it, paid you, next. If you don't know scrap prices, you'll get taken. If you do, you'll never return. They failed the test. the service and personnel weren't very welcoming. also, the scrap pricing they paid out was half of what the day's market value was. I don't know how they found their pricing, but I reviewed the receipt and looked up the pricing and they paid 1/2 of what they should have. i still walked away with $100, but it should have been $250 after I looked up the pricing for each metal. it was convenient that they're open 7 days a week. need to work on their customer service and being more accountable and fair. read more

I've used Recycling Depot in the past and they've always paid a little low but they're convenient to get to. Last week they paid me $1.20/# lower than Pac Iron for #1 copper after I had unloaded. Said it was the best they could do. Never again- Take your recycling elsewhere fellas. read more

Damaged trailer I would avoid, not skilled in removing items, We loaded the trailer with a simple forklift with long forks, no problem. i have taken large items there before and they used the unit with a large claw to simply pickup and remove. For some reason they decided to use an excavator and cartwheeled it off the trailer moving my truck 2 feet and bending the frame of the car trailer so bad it needs replaced. Only comment from RD well unload at your risk. No maybe have equipment on site to handle the work load. Just a forklift with long forks would have avoided the problem. Or an operator that know his limits. Could have gone to the other place. Turning into insurance to let them go after the loss. read more

I called these guys to inquire about recycling some catalytic converters. I told them these were large import catalytic converters with high platinum and the person I spoke with said it doesn't matter how much platinum was in them. They said they would give me 15-30 bucks. Thats not even worth the trip over there. Thats just a plain lie. Of course it matters how much Platinum is in them. I called Converters Plus in Renton and they gave me $165 for them. Why pay to bring metal or paper products to the dump when this place will PAY YOU for the stuff? Not only that, their location is super convenient to the Seattle Goodwill. The place is small so go when it's not too crowded. If you're a first time customer, don't be afraid to ask the cashier for recycling guidelines. This is the best scrap metal place I've been to. In addition to being friendly and efficient, they told me that I've been being ripped off for years by the place that's closer to the auto repair shop I work at. They paid me more than twice as much for the scrap from the shop that I brought in, and separately weighed out the starters, catalytic converters, and radiators. Second time was given low weights across the board. Disappointing because the employees are considerate and its very easy to access. Gave them benefit of doubt on first run, second time had weights recorded- unfortunately was unable to bring weight sheet with me or I would have disputed the weights right there. Seller beware...bring your weight list with you otherwise you'll be caught short. Whats the good of receiving cash if its not the full amount deserved. People are not scrapping because they are in a sound financial position, they should be ashamed of this behavior - but I doubt they are. read more

I know nothing about this business other than they recycle metals. Like glen said, this is a bunch of lazy a*** workers. They assumed I knew what to do with my truck load of metal. I won't go into details as to what happened, but I would NEVER EVER go there again and advise YOU to avoid them even IF they paid top dollar for your recyclables!!!
