I can only imagine that they had a critical balloon emergency and every second counted because they remained the vehicle directly in front of me all the way down Aloha and 15th. I found the price sheet confusing. I bought 7 balloons which I thought would fall under the 6- 24 category at 2.25 a piece. Apparently the balloons will not float for more than 24 hours without the special helium for an extra 50 cents per balloon. I bought them at 1pm and needed them next morning at 930am and was advise to pay extra. balloon price 7*2.25 = 15.75 helium 7*3.50 = 3.50 total should be 19.25 before taxes To get to $21 , it is like taxes first 5* 2.50 = 12.50 next 2 *2.25 = 5 helium = 3.50 The person gave me an extra balloon, nice gesture but due to confusing pricing will not be back. I am little sad was planning to use them for upcoming events. Also caphill is so hard to find parking, I was so scared of popping them just even walking 3 blocks. You will be surprised how many people, dogs, low roots and untrimmed shrubs and trees I had to avoid. read more

I've been popping in to the red balloon a lot lately with all of the special occasions and Ive really fallen in love with it. It cost a bit more than the big chain party stores but they have a lot of really interesting and fun gifts. Everyone that works there is kind and lovely. The only complaint I could possibly have is the lack of parking around there but such is city life. They get you in and blow up your balloons quickly. A new favorite spot for me. read more

Huge shout out to the team here. I am a personal assistant and I tend to get a lot of tasks last minute from the family I support. I was asked to get balloons and goodies to make a birthday celebration complete. I was able to call this business and within 20 minutes have the most festive ballon presentation and the amount of party favor add ons were so spectacular that I will most certainly be back for more purchases for more celebrations. However that said, be prepared for a disconnect in customer service. As I moved around the store browsing, the clerk keep saying "Excuse me", and asking to to move so she could pass. A time or two is okay no worries, but she shouldn't have kept asking me (the customer) to step aside. The are many aisles in this store she could have gone down. These guys rock! A balloon and party supply business might be struggling during a pandemic where folks are discouraged from gathering, so I wanted to leave a review for these folks! I had a socially distant outdoor birthday gathering recently and ordered some number balloons, birthday balloons and weights. The staff (potentially owners?) seemed very kind and arranged the balloons in a way that would make it easier to walk to my destination after balloon pick up. The ordering on the website was seamless. I also was able to call them to adjust my pickup time to earlier than I had initially booked with no issues. Ordering on the website resulted in a promo code that they were able to retro-actively apply to my order - which is great! I'd recommend this place to order any party supplies for decorations around town, and also once it is safe to have gatherings and celebrations! read more

I never write reviews but I feel strongly that Red Balloon Co should not be your choice. 1.It was virtually impossible to get someone to take my order on the phone. Eventually someone asked for my number and they called back about 1 1/2 hours later?!? 2. Their website has not been updated in quite sometime. The prices were doubled online and the delivery charge was $50 for a delivery nearby 3. I ordered a " walking" dinosaur balloon with a height of 59". That's almost 5ft. What was delivered was more like 36". 4. I ordered polka balloons, received solid color instead 5. I was promised a later in the day delivery around 3pm, instead they texted saying they would be there between 9am and noon! I had to call (4x) to alert them again of the agreed delivery time *** Thank God this was for a 2 year old's birthday because it was big enough for him. I spent $80 ( $20 for delivery). So so frustrating. Poor customer service and personally disappointing. read more

I love to entertain and throw parties... I am very picky when it comes to party aesthetics... balloons/plates/wrapping paper... it's all gotta match and make sence. I haven't stepped into a party city in years because this place is my go to. Everything is very updated and not cheesy like other party stores. They have a wide variety of balloons, cards, wrapping paper, gifts and everything else you would associate with a party. And I come so often that I've even gotten to know the employees pretty well. Have to say, Amanda is my favorite. She is always so helpful, and I always get a good laugh while I'm shopping. Don't think I've ever left this store without a smile on my face. I just experienced extremely rude service at check-out. The cashier did not understand how to handle a split transaction. Instead of asking for help, she kept telling me how difficult this was going to be. After making mistakes with my credit card, she told me to "just GO!" I said I wasn't leaving until my presents were wrapped, and that I couldn't believe she told me to leave. She denied saying that - but then I repeated her exact words to me. I then took my unwrapped gifts and left the store with my children. She acted like wrapping my gifts was going to be a big deal, and then she acted very rudely in front of my children - who were attempting to pay in cash. I am done supporting this business. With funny cards, a variety of balloons, gag gifts, educational gifts, board games, science kits, even ant farms...this cute store has it all. And even though I've never found a use for them, you could even get very realistic painted miniature farm animals here too! The balloon selection is great, and if you get "high-float" the balloons last for like a month. So they get a star for that. They also replaced a broken bubble machine once, so I loved these guys for a long time.... However, the low rating comes in after my last time there. I was with my potty-training just-3-year-old. I know they have a staff bathroom and while I understand it not being "public" denying a 3-year-old bathroom usage AT A TOY SHOP is pretty much the worst business model ever. When I explained that he could not hold it til we walked to find a "public" bathroom and he would likely wet his pants, they said that wasn't their problem. They sell toys, but don't care about kids. Today I stopped into this shop to buy a birthday card and a thank you card. The birthday card is for my cousin's 8 yr old son and the thank you card is for his 13 yr old brother. The 8 yr old has brain cancer and is pretty much unconscious in a North Carolina hospital. They had to do emergency surgery recently because the tumor was causing his eyes to bulge out of his head. His birthday is Monday and he has a long road to recovery. The 13 yr old has been spending a lot of time at the hospital so I wanted to acknowledge him and the support he's giving his family with a thank you card. I purchased a few books for both kids at my neighborhood bookstore. The 8 yr is not able to read but I got him a book so my uncle could read it to him. I'd hoped that I could pay to have the books gift wrapped when I purchased the cards but was told that only items purchased at the store could be wrapped. The manager Neal said "we don't have a gift wrapping service." I was incredibly frustrated at this. I was willing to pay for the wrapping, all the wrapping supplies were there, I have spent a lot of money at that store, this was important. I should have planned ahead better so I wasn't in such a time crunch but life happens. The 8 yr old's birthday is Monday, today is Friday. I needed to overnight these items at this point. So, I will be boycotting this store and will share this story with my family, friends and co-workers. Also, I work at a very large business just down the street, so I think news of this incident will spread at work. I'm sure many of my coworkers go to this shop for cards and other gifts. read more

Great place to get a last minute gift for a kid, or just get balloons and cards for your friends and family at any age. They always have really nice service, too. There's a variety of toys, books and games - but this isn't really a "toy store" (think of it more as a "gift shop"). But there's a surprising amount of stuff for such a little store, variety wise. From some trucks/cars, to arts-and-crafts, to the "Schleich" line of toys (animals, knights, etc) - you'll find it here. And did I mention the balloons? Every kind from the cheapest to the most expensive mylar-military-weather-balloon-never-lose-air™ grade - they have it all. Plenty of cards too - from the blank to the silly to the touching, I've never found this place to be lacking in that regard. The guy who took my order tried to dissuade me from having the helium tank delivered because he thought there would be a lot of traffic on the day and time I needed it delivered. I order some balloons and a helium tank for an event. I asked which size tank would be needed for the amount of balloons and they insisted I would need the larger tank, which is quite expensive. It ended up being overkill and could have probably done with a much smaller tank. A day after we returned the tank I got a call from the store asking me when we were going to return the tank. The tank was delivered on time and the store is conveniently located but for me doesn't make up for the lack of knowledge of their products and a few weak links in customer service. I think this is a great addition to Capitol Hill. There really isn't anything like it close by (for us)...besides balloons, they do have lots of other toys & gifts. I have shopped there many times for cards & gifts for adults as well as for our little guy. I have to give the workers there props too, because they have always been very helpful, have sometimes given us free balloons at the end of the day (the latex ones they sometimes put outside, which get thrown out at closing). Recently I called 4 hours before a 2 year old bday party, and they were super helpful, got a dozen balloons ready for us & made sure to wait until 1/2 hour before we got there so they were "fresh" & would last the longest. It wasn't a huge purchase, but I fully expected to have to give them a credit card #, but they didn't. It just felt like a very neighborhoody type of experience. It can seem pricey - but part of that is the quality of the toys they carry. These are the same prices for other Haba & similar toys that are carried at other local brick & mortar stores (yes you can find them cheaper online, but that is the case w/ most things). I guess it could feel like a "waste of retail space" if they don't have things that you want, but from a kid's point of view, there are a zillion great things, it is fun to spend time there & they are always welcoming even though our little guy throws the bouncy balls all over the place (yes I make sure to pick them up before we leave)! read more

I say this because I knew it was a party supply destination, and figured it would have your average birthday cards and such but was surprised at the unique selection of quality toys, gifts, and games. There were books, stationery, soaps, magnets, dolls, puzzles, figurines for pretty much everyone you could think of - children and adults alike. (I mean, I just bought a twirling ribbon for MYSELF) For gifts and assorted sundry, Red Balloon is way better than Urban Outfitters. It's more happy than jaded, engaging versus bored elitism. Sure they've stuff for kids. But most importantly, they have stuff that reminds you of how much fun you had when you were a kid. This is one of those "Whaaa?" retail location choices. Tucked into the bustling hip scene of 15th Avenue between coffee shops, boutiques, nationally renowned restaurants and bars, we have this: A BALLOON SHOP. Ok, ok, they do more than that: they've got toys and party supplies and greeting cards. But still: this place doesn't fit and takes up a primo location that feels wasted. I don't have anything against the company, but it just really doesn't fit with the street. Sure: they might get business from folks with family in the hospital (classic balloon bouquet recipients), but the hospital is just far enough away that it doesn't quite work. Parents planning kids parties (sure, there are parents on the hill) might go there, but they've got Shop Rite full of cheap party supplies instead. And if they want toys, Capitol Hill parents have enough money to take their kids to Magic Mouse or Tottini or some other overpriced designer toystore. Not this place. The whole thing feels odd, like that grandma shop "TILDEN" that's been on the corner of 15th and Harrison for ever and ever and is always empty. read more

I adore this place. The fantastic German animal figures. You don't have to go down to grotty Pioneer Square to Magic Mouse to get your daily allowance of wire hair fox terriers and dinosaurs. It's wonderfully clean, the guy behind the counter is friendly and funny-I'd kill for his great skin! The cards are unusual-crows wearing wellies, marvelous old tintype photos... The Steiff animals(high end stuffed) are priced way below any other toy store in town. I really hope they make a go of it. I don't know how many times I've passed by this gift shop over the years. Finally headed into The Red Balloon Co to look for a card today. This is a pretty good gift shop for kids and adults alike. Though I agree with some other reviews that it's an odd fit for Capt Hill. There are lots and lots of cards -- I found what I was looking for (an engagement card) and got a random one too just cause it was cute. Though I freakin hate hate hate how expensive cards can be. Anyways, I got some Theo chocolate to go with the card, and there's also a candy dispenser wall (I def saw novel colors of M&Ms, there may also be jelly beans?). A corner in the back is devoted to balloons, helium and the regular kind. There's wrapping paper and party supplies, such as plastic cups and fancy napkins. I'd never heard of such a thing until this business took over the lot that was previously occupied by the unfortunately managed Rainbow Grocery. However, the retail space is given over mainly to toys, games and party decorations. They have a couple of cool things, but this store is really mainly a waste of a huge, prime retail lot on a bustling and vibrant neighborhood retail corridor. The people are nice enough, but this store has something like a 90/10 crap to interesting or desireable ratio. read more
