Bootyland, I've had it with you. This shop has been my go-to destination for awesome baby gifts for 10 years. Over the years, I've endured a ton of weird/irritating customer service experiences, such as watching clerks completely ignore my husband when he shops there while moms get chatted up at the counter. Such as, after making appointment to sell some clothes on consignment, I showed up on time and waited for 20 minutes. When I inquired whether I should reschedule, I was snapped at. Why force people to make appointments if you can't honor the scheduling? The prices have always been high, but I just accepted it as a part of supporting a local indie biz. Somehow I always justify going back. "I caught them on an off day," I tell myself. Or, after getting truly awful service from a crabby clerk, "...maybe the baby kept her up all night..." I've paid the high prices because I like supporting local businesses that sell handcrafted goods. Today, however, was the last straw: I showed up during business hours to find a "back in 15 minutes" sign on the door. Was the sign posted 1 minute ago or 10 minutes ago? I don't know, but I waited almost 20 minutes with an increasingly fussy baby before giving up. And now, after 10 years, I'm finally ready to completely give up on Bootyland. I love little local indie shops, but when they treat their customers poorly, I just can't keep going back for more abuse. read more

I will be the first to admit that I do not like kids or anything related to the entire phenomenon therefore I vehemently separate myself from everything and anything that has to do with children. Cut to my co-worker getting knocked up and having a baby shower, I found myself needing to find a gift that would be useful yet unconventional because I didn't want to perpetuate the myth baby clothes need to be splattered with animals or whatever the hell typical baby clothes have. I chose Bootyland because it was open on Sunday and hey, its Capitol Hill so they must have some wacky and crazy products, right? I walk into Bootyland and it smelled like a booty. Someone's spawn must have fudged their Huggies because it stunk. Yuck! The woman at the counter didn't even acknowledge my presence. Thanks. I look around and find a lot of boring expensive organic baby stuff. Exactly what I want to stay away from. Lots of onsies, clothes for toddlers, and all the way up to tweens. Nothing stood out. I venture to the back of the store and find a consigned section. I look on the racks and find the cutest old timey baby stuff. I'm talking this stuff could have come from decades ago. Jackpot. Lots of 70's patterned shirts, a cute corduroy vests, adorable overalls, and so much more. I kept finding ridiculously cute clothes I almost went into a cuteness coma. After I had been in the store for about ten minutes the counter lady asks if I need any help. Nope. Just fine. I continue to browse through the racks and find the perfect pieces every baby should have in their wardrobe: overalls with a train on it, a yellow coat with a matching hat, and a blue snap pearl button up shirt. With this gear that little boy is going to be impressing the ladies. I look at the toys and ask how much a particular wood toy is. The counter lady lets me know. I see a sign saying a certain type of block is on sale. I ask her if the toy I am holding is on sale. She says in a very dismissive tone, no its the toys that say felt blocks. Dang. Sorry. I bring the clothes to the counter. I ask if they accept checks and the counter lady gives me a very exasperated "Yeah". Sensing her disapproval I tell her I have a card if its easier and she said checks were fine but they prefer other forms of payment. If checks are such an issue, why accept them? As she is ringing up my items I make small talk with her to see if she is a human being or a machine and she opened up a little bit. I would give Bootyland more stars because even though they have subdued baby/kid clothes the section in the back is full of wonderful vintage and cheaper clothes but stars were deducted because of the less than personable staff lady. read more

When you get too old to be a hipster yourself, and you spawn some little ones, you go to Bootyland to outfit them and live vicariously through their hipsterness. Because seriously, what's not punk rawk (tm) about a Social D onesie? Nothing, that's what. Seriously, great selection of new and lightly worn baby clothes, mostly from local, sustainable or otherwise eco-conscious brands. So you can soothe your conscience about how much you're spending on clothes your kid will wear like 3 times before you have to decide whether to re-gift or throw out because of all the spit up. These are the tough choices one faces as a parent. Not the cheapest place, so I wouldn't go getting most of your kid's wardrobe from here, but a great way to get a little "color" into the otherwise boring set of clothes that all the kids are wearing (Does everyone shop only at Old Navy, Costco and Target? I'm trying to be unique here! My kid's a rebel!). read more

I understand the feedback that other yelpers are giving here, lucky for me, I"ve never experienced a minute of bad service at this place but I can kind of see how it could happen. That being said, I love the whole idea of this shop and I totally agree with Joshua B, the punk rawk aspect of buying a black Ramone's onesie for a babyshower instead of another pink or blue bath set is priceless. Nope, not what ya think. Sorry. It's baby clothes. With that out of the way: some young hipster friends had a baby last summer and I didn't want to get a gift from a chain store. Another friend recommended Bootyland for unconventional baby clothes, so off I went. It's a relatively small shop but they've got alot in there. There are new and used clothes for infants and children, games and books, and parenting supplies like cloth diapers, bags, and baby carriers. The woman working was friendly and extremely helpful and the store is well organized. If you are looking for edgy or punk rock baby clothes, this is the place to shop. I even found a Che Guevara onesie, which possibly warrants a Star on its own! Aside from sticker shock, this was a very pleasant shopping experience. About that sticker shock: the new clothes at Bootyland are unique and mostly handcrafted with organic materials and come from local artists. So while your purchase may make you feel good, it will hurt your wallet. I could not believe how expensive the stuff was, especially considering babies grow out of or quickly destroy anything they wear. Baby clothes aren't really worth investing that much in, IMO. Though I struggled to justify the purchase, I found two onesies on sale for about $20 each. I knew the $40 was well spent when my friends told me they loved the onesies and they were just their style. If you are shopping for your own children and not gifts, I suggest heading to the back of the store and looking at the used section. Still eco-friendly, and much more affordable. Though expensive, Bootyland is a great place to shop if you want your kids to reflect your green and/or rock n roll lifestyle. read more

To start off, I would like to disclose that I have a rule to only leave reviews after patronizing a business at least 5 times so my reviews aren't made willy-nilly. I've been shopping at Bootyland for years, ever since my friends first started having babies about 6 years ago. I've also been very happy with the service and selection of local and/or organic clothes. The prices are consistent with other boutiques of this caliber. If you want to be cheap, then go to Target and buy some crappy item made in china with poisonous cotton and toxic inks. Otherwise, please support your local businesses! In response to some of the other reviews of the poor service here; while I might see where they are coming from, I really think the service is good here...no, they aren't cheesy salespeople bothering you while you shop...but yes, they are friendly and are extremely knowledgeable of the products. read more

Here's why I dig this store. My son was born 6 weeks early. I gave birth in the Group Health birthing center on Capitol Hill. He was only 4lbs 11oz at birth so basically none of the clothes that we had previously purchased actually fit him so he had nothing to wear home. This was a problem since it was snowing when we were discharged. Here's where Bootyland comes in. Before we left (while the baby was undergoing a test to ensure that he was ok to travel in a car seat), I convinced my husband to take me to this store in hopes that they would have cute preemie clothes. Much to my delight they had some things that would actually fit his teeny tiny body in their gently used section. Score! As an aside alot of the stuff in here is on the pricey side. I'm not a big fan of overspending for baby clothes. They spit up, poop and pee all over them so it just seems like a waste. But if you want something really cute and unique, made from very high quality materials, this is your place. read more

I wandered into Bootyland shortly after the holidays to grab a gift for a tiny human. For such a small store front, I was pleasantly surprised at the large selection of infant and kids clothes, accessories, and toys. This store is a bit more expensive than I would like to spend on children's clothes and accessories, but all of their items are so unique and well made. I ended up finding some really perfect gifts and was so happy with the quality of all of the items. The woman that was working was exceptionally friendly and she even offered to gift wrap my purchase. I'll definitely be back when I'm looking for a sweet and unique gift for the tiny humans in my life. My only request is that Bootyland lower some of their prices, some of the smaller or more simple items seemed a little over priced. It's not easy to find local boutiques in Seattle that sell cloth diapers. Before my little one arrived, I wanted to get a personal feel for a few that I had seen online. I was pleased to find that Bootyland had a few of those options, as well as cloth diaper safe cremes, etc. I picked up a handful of different diapers and wipes, after the very helpful salesperson (and her children..who also had tons of advice..so cute!), walked me through the different materials and brands. Only one of the items did I need to return (realized that I had already ordered it online), and the salesperson (different this time) seemed a little irritable about processing it. I need to feel comfortable purchasing AND returning (if need be--I rarely make a return..i can probably count the times on my hands). In general, I'm willing to overlook this, as I do appreciate the fact that they carry such lovely brands and products. Rear Schmear!!! They are the only ones in town that carry it. It is hands down the best diaper cream/ointment. My son has never had a rash since changing to this. Over all the store isn't that great. Customer services used to be questionable but it has been getting better. Being independently owned can be rough at time and I get that. I'm glad that they have been improving. They have certain requirements on the items they carry, but some of them a very pricey and for me I can't always justify spending a lot on a clothing item my son will grow out of in a few weeks but other can I say please support this shop if you are in that category. read more

Bootyland is our favorite place for kids' clothes. None of the stuff has corporate logos on it. None. It won't turn your kids into walking advertisements like most consignment clothes. It has gorgeous and cool vintage kids' stuff I remember from my childhood, locally-made kid gear, and a selection of baby carriers to reckon with. We love Bootyland, and with Izilla now in walking distance, I'm sure I'll be finding my way up the Hill more often. read more

Oooh! I love Bootyland! Such a wonderful selection of environmentally friendly baby items (new and used!) and a very nice, helpful staff. I first went in for a baby shower gift and then came back with my new mama friend for more stuff. For the shower I purchased an organic cotton hooded towel (great for keeping baby warm after the bath), and a SO SOFT bamboo blanket. We went back a few months later with baby for a moby wrap. They're not cheap but Bootyland had a used one in stock for half the price. NICE! Anything you can imagine for baby, you can find at Bootyland. read more

Got a cute mama anderson used-but-in-excellent-condition outfit for $14.50 and a cute knit looks-like-grandma-knit-it sweater for $12. They have a lot of organic and locally made clothes. The woman working there was friendly. I would definitely recommend it for baby. I haven't shopped at many consignment shops yet, but I think I have decided this should be the focus of my vacation to Seattle. Bootyland is the only reason I go to Capitol Hill anymore. I have been coming here since before I was pregnant, at first for inspiration and now for buying and selling. They have amazing wool diaper covers, lots of local artisan goods, and fantastic vintage pieces. I do have to admit, there has been a really off-putting customer service experience, one time the lady working was completely dismissive to me. I felt like just wanted me to go away and never come back. Fortunately, I haven't seen this woman since that time. All of the other ladies are super sweet. Very calm and laid back. It's true, they aren't going to attack you with customer service, but I like that. read more

Here's my problem with this store: it's horribly expensive, and it is listed as a "consignment" store in the "moderate" price range. Sure, they have consigned goods in the back, but a used onesie for $10 is not exactly my idea of a good deal. If you're a wealthy parent who truly wants to spend $20 on every onesie your child poops and pukes all over, go for it. Honestly, I felt as though I had wasted my time and was entirely disappointed. I live in West Seattle and go to a locally owned consignment shop there with equally fantastic quality and prices that blow this place out of the water. Sadly, they were closed yesterday and I was very anxious to do my first shopping trip for my unborn 2nd child. After peeking in this store, I headed down to Sugarlump and spent $51 on half my 2nd child's newborn wardrobe! read more

A lot of clothes made overseas, so I was greatly disappointed. Sustainability is buying locally made products, with US materials, or at least everything US-made, so this establishment did not meet my expectations. I had many items in my hand and was going to purchase but sadly everything I selected had been made overseas. I was told emphatically that some of the designers were local. It took me quite a while to find items that were US-made, and that is what I purchased. Even then, I am not so sure I was told the truth about where the items were made. The labels did not specify it, but the store attendant assured me that I was purchasing US-made, organic baby clothes. Note: Not everything sold here is organic, and additionally, not all items have labels. You will have to ask, but even then, it is difficult to to be certain about the product's origin. I went looking for a local business to buy a baby shower gift from. This store had a great selection of stuff for infants ... Receiving blankets, hooded towels, ADORABLE baby clothes for newborns to 18 months, plus lots of little extras. Almost all of it was fair trade and organic, which made me feel good about participating in the very consumer oriented baby shower tradition. It's a pretty sparse store, and certainly doesn't live up to the excitement of it's name. I had really hoped for shelves and shelves of booties, cute baby shoes, awesome onzies. In fact, there were only about ten - fifteen different clothes items, with very limited options for size. What -- you're out of 3 - 6 months onzies?! But that's like a really important size. The stuff they do have is nice. Organic cotton. Beautiful textiles. But you can count them on two hands. I hate complaining about customer service. 9-out-of-10 times it's the customer being an ass, and the service received is appropriate or deserved. But holy bore, how long does it take to ring-up an item? Or just smile? Or have some affect other than the monotonous drone of a gothic high-schooler too cool for life itself. I was recently visiting a different, more standard consignment store and overheard a customer discuss with the owner weather or not this or that label was "high end" or designer-yuck. You're at a consignment store, it's obvious you're not a high roller so get over it. Booty land is THE place for the funky, independent parent who could care less if the label has a pedigree. When my wee one was a tot, I loved to shop here for vintage plaid trousers like the ones my mom dressed me in in the 70's (you know the ones) or for funky, locally made new items and now that I'm expecting a new little one I'm thrilled to have a reason to go back again . I love this place since it is so devoid of pretension and such a flash back to the olden days (ha, ha) or just the days when kids were kids, not trophies or status objects. The selection of adult women's clothes is a bit limited, but what they have is interesting. I suggest going back every few weeks or so to check out newer items. Many of their pieces are made in the USA or handmade by local designers. I especially love the circle skirt I purchased a couple weeks ago. The cotton fabric is heavy and soft and has the right amount of draping to make it feel sumptuous but still casual. The children's items are fairly unique, but I didn't see anything that wowed me. I have a soft spot for Bootyland because of its focus on leaving a small carbon footprint, selling both recycled and organic clothes for babies, children and to a limited degree, women. Even the toys have the smallest carbon footprint possible, all made of natural products. I came here to buy clothes for my four yr old girl. We wanted organic quality clothing. My daughter also has sensory sensitivities so literally her clothes have to be perfect. They had both new and used clothing which Im not big on used clothing but the quality was there so we bought from both selections. The girls that worked there were extremely personable and helpful, not to mention we had some hiccups and I had to come back again the next day, totally my fault but I wont go into details. But theyve definitely earned my business and Im planning on going back there in a week or so! read more
