This is a very interesting ice cream and coffee place! With the sheer volume of mix-ins they have, there are an infinite number of ice cream combos you can make. You start by either choosing vanilla or chocolate for the base, and then you can add 2 mix-ins (or more if you want to pay more). It's pretty pricey for ice cream, but I will admit, it's pretty delicious and you get a lot for the price! My mom got the cherry, cookie dough, kahlua in vanilla, which she said was good (but she didn't taste the kahlua very much). I just did cherry and dark chocolate chips in vanilla and I thought it tasted just like cordial cherries so I was happy! If you're looking for a pumpkin spice latte that doesn't taste like fake syrup chemicals, this is your pumpkin spice latte! They make their own syrup for this drink and while I think it's a tad heavy on the spice side, it has a delightful pumpkin flavor and is perfectly creamy. Anyways, I just discovered a new ice cream shop and it's going on my favorite's list. It's called @theredbeanannapolis. They have two ice cream flavors, vanilla & chocolate, that are made at a local creamery I believe. It's premium ice cream so it's thick, rich, & creamy. Yum! You choose a few mix-ins from a list of about 50 toppings, including sweets, nuts, fruits, syrups, spices, & a few other items. They put it in this little contraption that mixes everything together, then it comes out like soft serve in a swirl. I tried vanilla ice cream with blackberries & green tea on a waffle cone. Omg, it was delicious! It may seem like an odd combination but it's one of their most popular flavors. I could really taste the green tea. The flavor came through, which I wasn't expecting that. The staff was friendly & helpful as I asked a bunch of questions, as I often do when I visit a place for the first time. The shop had a nice vibe. I met a friend there & we sat and talked for hours unbothered. If you're in the area, stop by. You won't regret it. This is my several-th times I've been to this place and I'm surprised I haven't given this place a review! It's worthy of 5 stars and positive review! I've alternated between peppermint hot chocolate and chai. Both always with almond milk. And I haven't been disappointed. Not once. The hubs has been getting peanut butter mocha and has been getting it only. Guess first impression won him over! We haven't tried their ice cream. We should though. It's on our Summer 2020 plan! Only tried ice cream. So the formula for ice cream is base (vanilla or chocolate ) plus 2 mixins= yum. It was tastey and a bit different. But I'd rather one of the other local ice cream places. I'm only basing this review on the drinks...I've been to The Red Bean twice since it has opened for some midday refreshment. The first time, I tried an ice blueberry green tea. It was unsweetened but I didn't mind it. The second time, I had a strawberry spritzer beverage (forgot the exact name) but it was very, very good. The Red Bean does coffee, of course, pastries, and soft serve ice cream. I'm looking forward to returning and trying the ice cream and pastries. I'm not much of a coffee person but I'm pleased with the various tea options as I prefer tea over coffee. I have no complaints about the service and the shop is really cute. read more

Fantastic ice cream! You decide on a base and can choose from vanilla or chocolate. If you can't decide between either, you can do half and half! You then choose the mix-ins you want to add and they have a large selection to choose from. If you want more than 2 mix-ins, you can pay an extra 50 cents. I normally get 4 mix-ins with my sweet tooth. They also have shop favorites you can try. Once you order, you can watch them mix everything together in the machine which is such an awesome process to witness and you'll have your ice cream within seconds! The wait staff is extremely friendly and talented. Not only are they ice cream making gods, they are also baristas sent from heaven! I have tried the Mexican hot chocolate and the chai tea and both are phenomenal. Very fun atmosphere with lots of space to sit. I didn't try any of their drinks, but I stopped in here wanting some ice cream. I found their menu confusing/overwhelming, as it turns out that they only have vanilla or chocolate ice cream and you choose two mix ins to add to it. Their menu board shows all sorts of flavors like "espresso dark chocolate" but what's not clear until you order is that espresso and dark chocolate are your toppings and the only thing you decide is whether you want a vanilla or chocolate base. Their sign outside even advertised "Blackberry green tea ice cream" but what it should have said was "Vanilla or chocolate ice cream with blackberry and green tea" to make it more straightforward. What a great place!! We came here at the recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint! It's a nice cafè that is actually bigger than it looks from the outside. The decor is inviting - modern but cozy and almost familiar. The baristas and the owner were really welcoming and approachable. We didn't get to try the coffee because I specifically came here for the ice cream but I will definitely try the coffee next time! For the ice cream, I believe they have chocolate or vanilla as a base and then you pick two toppings to go with it or more for extra price. I wanted pistachio but didn't know what would go well with it and the owner suggested Oreos or dark chocolate. I opted for the Oreos. Now I'm not sure what kind of mixing or crushing they do but whatever they did was heavenly. You can't even tell its vanilla ice cream, it tasted like pistachio ice cream with Oreos. Loved it! Red Bean is literally my favorite place to get ice cream in Downtown Annapolis. Nearly every time I'm in town my friends would suggest we go here or I would suggest we get ice cream here. It's a little further up from the main harbor area, but the walk and wait is worth it. The location has gained popularity which would account for the lines coming out of the store during prime time summer ice cream weather. But!!! It's totally worth it. The shop's interior is like any other cafe, but the seating is very limited so I would suggest to take your ice cream to go. When I came here I opted to get a medium size in a waffle cone since I wasn't expecting a lot of ice cream. Fortunately and unfortunately I was wrong. The amount of ice cream they give you in a medium is enough for two people! What's unique about this ice cream shop is that the toppings or mix ins as they call it are mixed into your ice cream. They use a machine to combine your mix ins with your ice cream and then they carefully put it inside a cone or cup! You can customize your flavors starting with a chocolate or vanilla ice cream base. They have toppings and such listed on the menu, however I like to order right off the pre-made ice cream flavors that they have. My favorite flavors are Caramel Pretzel and Pistachio Dark chocolate with a vanilla ice cream base. They also offer teas, coffees, and other drinks if you're in the mood for something that isn't ice cream. read more

Great independent coffee shop! We popped in here on a warm January Saturday. Many people were enjoying their good looking affogatos (that's ice cream with a shot of espresso). We opted for hot chocolates--regular for him and peanut butter-chocolate with almond milk for me. Another time I might have been disappointed with the medium-richness of the hot chocolate, but that day it was just right for what I wanted. The peanut butter flavor was a great addition! The bad news here is the abysmal layout and use of space for customer seating. Furniture placement is awkward, and there isn't enough seating. Sitting on a tall bench at the back of the shop, we had no where to place our drinks and tons of dead space in front of us and to the side. There was a large couch in the middle of the area that should have been where we were. Up at the front of the shop they have seating in 3 areas for a total of 8 people in like 500sq ft or more of space. Sorting this all out would really up the atmosphere here. read more

I love coming here. It's got a great upscale, DC vibe in a town lacking sophisticated eating establishments. There's more ice cream than coffee shops in Annapolis, (this eatery happens to double as a coffee shop, too--try the affogato if you can't decide: think "espresso float"), and this is the best in town. I like to switch up their recommend pairings of "mix-ins" but lately I've been stuck on cake mix and sprinkles. So good! When I bring my dog, they give him frozen banana and peanut butter which is a really kind gesture and definitely a strong customer retention tool! The staff is always super friendly and pleasant and they seem happy to be at work. Their waffle cones are made in house throughout the day and are delicious. The last time I was there, the owner was scooping homemade cookie dough! My only beef with Red Bean are unusual hours (closed Mondays.) Sometimes the line is down the block at Annapolis Ice Cream, which isn't that great, and RB is closed. That said, it's never agonizingly busy in there, which is great for locals but I hope RB expands their hours and steps up the competition so they can become a profitable staple for years to come on Main St. If you have a choice, choose RB! read more
