Didn't know any place still had a smoking area indoors! But sure enough non smokers to the left, smokers to the right. I am a non-smoker so I was not sure about this situation. However, the right was packed with local patrons and not a single soul smoked while we were in the restaurant. It also did not smell like a smoking establishment. Everyone was over the top friendly and made us feel very welcome, staff and patrons alike. The staff knew most everyone by first name. Prices were reasonable. Even a steak was under $20. We saw a lot of steaks coming out of the kitchen to tables and being gobbled up with gusto. They looked and smelled delicious. We had the fried green tomatoes! There was a nice large portion of them, perfectly breaded and fried for only $5.99. We chose the old fashioned club sandwich and it was nostalgically delicious for $8.99. They have the best soda fountain drinks! The syrup is mixed perfectly. Not too sweet, not too much carbonated water. They have the good crunchy nugget ice! I found the prices reasonable and the portions a good filling size. The restaurant was very clean and welcoming. Don't let the outside fool you. It is nicely remodeled inside. This restaurant has been in Town Creek as long as I can remember and has always had a parking lot full of vehicles. Make sure to stop and say hello and have a bite of good basic family restaurant food when you are passing through the tiny town of Town Creek, Alabama. NOTE: make sure to watch the speed signs. Middle of nowhere. Walked in and had a smoking and non smoking area. Not sure they still existed. So if you dont like eating with smoke smell. Stay away Food is what you would expect walking into this joint. Ordered a cheeseburger with fries. Came out quick. Quality of food, not very good. Cheese wasnt melted on. I hate to rate any establishment 4 stars as they look at it as the kiss of death... I got a weird vibe from this place upon arrival and until I left. I guess it started with the Smoking/No Smoking sign smacking me in the face as soon as I walked in... They have two sections separated by an invisible wall which prevents the cigarette smoke from crossing over into the non-smoking area. In all fairness it was barely noticeable, but not many folks were in the smoking section. For me that was an instant turn off. To the food: I had an order of fried green tomatoes that were ehhh... OK but the batter/breading kept falling off of the tomatoes making them hard to eat. The dipping sauce was AWESOME. I ordered a Bacon Cheese burger and asked the server Jennie, who was GREAT, if they were hand made patties. She indicated that they were not, but that they came out delicious when cooked. I took a chance and she was right. That was the best bacon cheeseburger I've had in a LONG time. I ordered mine with sautéed onions, raw onions, pickles, tomato and lettuce, SPOT ON. The fries tasted like they were deep fried right out of an Orida bag. OK but I can get those at home... All in all it was not a horrible experience but it wasn't memorable either. I really don't think it is on my go to list, although it has the potential to be better. The smoking part ruined it for me. No alcohol served. Nice and friendly people and excellent service.
