We had a lovely and inexpensive meal this evening, starting with a warm welcome by the bartender as we lucked out to get the other booth when we arrived. Drinks were ordered and it was nice to see non-alcoholic beers on offer. We got one of those and one local draft. For dinner, Mrs. K. selected the veggiewich and I chose a Dapper Dog. Real pub grub stuff here and it was fabulous. My "loaded" chips included cheese and banana peppers. It was all delicious and a special credit for an actual crunchy pickle! Local, v homey, popular, somewhat divey, friendly pub eatery got recommended on my visit to Florence. Not a quiet place, so if u can get over that, u will dig the esoteric atmosphere. Was a bit skeptical at first, they have a limited menu focused on 'hot dogs'; So I ordered the Jalapeño Popper Veggie Dog, .. .. Hit The SPOT. Loaded with sliced jalapeños, and a novel ranch type condiment. Never had a 'dog' like this. Everything comes loaded with their custom 'chips', plastered with chz, onions, & I don't know what. A solid "3" (good in my book) with the potential of a "4" on repeat visits, and if I was a local I'd probably stop in here semi-regularly. I was in town for ShoalsFest and needed lunch before the second day of music. Also thought it would be nice to grab a drink or two before heading into the music and much higher, more limited beverage options. Walking around the downtown area, a lot of restaurants and bars are actually closed on weekends? So it's nice this one was open and serving hungry/thirsty ShoalsFest customers. I saw some folks walking in as I approached, so I opened the door and was told they weren't open but would do so at noon promptly. Glancing at my watch, I saw it was 11:45 am. So I found a nearby picnic table and read. I saw folks entering at about 11:55, so walked back over at noon and entered a packed house. Orders are at the first bar (multiple bar seats) and with such a crowd took a bit of time. Seems they have a few local rules (1 drink order per person at a time, not sure if that rules out shot+beer orders; 1.25 oz pours instead of 2 oz). Drink prices for "brunch" times were solid, $4 mimosas or bloody marys, etc. Lots of beer on tap. Food options included some sandwiches but primarily hotdogs, all fairly priced. I spent about an hour here and it was steady the whole time. I had a bloody mary and two different beers, two hotdogs and loaded chips w/ each. The drinks were fairly priced and good. Food fairly priced and okay--I didn't care for the chilli on the dog, and my other option which had grilled sauerkraut, onions and cheese was a tad bit better. The loaded chips may have been housecooked but reminded me of lays, and had a ton of melted mozzarella and other toppings. They were okay. I like the overall atmosphere here and it seems like a great place for locals particularly when they're not slammed for events, but even as busy as it was service was great and efficient. Very cool and funky tavern in Florence. We visited while in the area to see the Pope's Tavern Museum. It seems to be attached to an arcade type of place. Definitely more of a tavern/bar feel than restaurant feel despite the full menu; menus wait on tables and you go to the bar to order. The interior decorations are very cool and fun. Lots of funky lights and funny art. There's a wall of fame for beer drinkers wherein their visages are put on top of hot dogs -- very nice. lol. My dad especially had a great time; he loved the music and the atmosphere. The lighting is a little dim so it's kinda hard to see the menu. Large array of beer and other drink options. The menu mostly has hot dogs, sandwiches, and flatbread pizzas. No fries here -- house made chips with ranch instead. The bartender was super friendly and patient with us. My parents got a chili cheese dog and smoky slaw dog; I copied my mom with the chili cheese. We all enjoyed our food! The chip serving isn't especially large but the hot dogs are sizable and very tasty. The sesame seed bun was perfectly toasted and stood up nicely to all the toppings. The chili was flavorful and I liked the Cajun spices on the chili cheese dog. That made my very spice-averse mom's nose run but if you're anything but the weeniest of weenies I'm sure you'll be fine! Hahaha. My dad really enjoyed the smoky slaw dog. He and my mom split their dogs so they could have half of each and she wound up liking that one even more than the chili. If I'd paid closer attention to the menu I might've tried the jalapeño popper styled dog...if I return in the future, would definitely go there. I really hate to write bad reviews, but this place wasn't it. We walked in and stood by the door because it was a little busy. No signs about wait to be seated/seat yourself, etc. and no staff on the floor in sight. Then after a few minutes we moved closer to the bar...again we only saw two bartenders and no other staff. We both figured that if no one could bother to come out and greet us then it's not worth our time. Bummer because I really wanted to try a veggie dog. Update, like 8 years later or something. Wildwood Tavern has become a town staple. Everything good about it has stuck around. They've found their swing, making the good better, adding an arcade, rotating drafts, and keeping a consistently good menu. Wildwood is packed nightly, so be prepared to get up to the bar and make your food and drink order. Sit and eat at the bar if you can. If you must sit at a table, you STILL NEED TO ORDER AT THE BAR. I don't wanna see y'all docking stars 'cause you ain't gettin' table service. Pro-tip: Doggie Bites. If you can eat two dogs, this is the best way to try everything out. read more

This place is great! Known for their hotdogs but really should be known for the kindness and hospitality of their staff. Everyone we encountered was awesome. We stopped in for a bite on our way back home to Birmingham, while their we each had a drink. The prices were very reasonable. While their we struck up a conversation with several locals and the owner. If you have ever been to The Garage in Birmingham AL or Barnstormers (back in the day) in Montevallo, Al this place has a similar vibe to them both. My husband and I were in Florence for a few days and heard great things about Wildwood Tavern, so we decided to go for dinner. It had a cozy, relaxed, quirky vibe and seemed like a nice mix of out-of-towners like us and locals. We both got their draft pilsner to drink, which was delicious, and opted to sample a bunch of menu items. We got their "Doggy Bites" appetizer which let you sample two of their specialty hot dog options in slider form. Very cool idea! They give you four sliders total, and we chose to try the Korean BBQ hot dog and their German Beerfest hot dog. Both were unique and delicious, but I liked the Beerfest best. For our mains, my husband got the Smoked Slaw hot dog and I got the BBQ Chicken Melt. Both were extremely well-priced & came with their home-cooked chips and ranch dipping sauce. It was one of the best BBQ chicken sandwiches I think I've ever had, and whatever they did to toast the hoagie bun made it so crisp it melted in your mouth. In the end, our bill was less than $45 total. Next time, we'd love to try their cocktails and flatbreads because those looked great, too. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town! read more

Such a cute spot just off the town square. We loved the cozy interior and an arcade next door (The Jungle) definitely made this a fun stop during a road trip. We all ended up ordering various hot dogs, ranging from a beer cheese bratwurst, a pizza hot dog topped with mozzarella and pepperoni and a French dip dog. The French dip dog was smothered in cheese and came with a great au jus, perfect for dipping both the dog and the crispy kettle chips. We were visiting during the weekend and it was a great casual kid friendly place to stretch our legs and play before getting back on the road. read more

I really hate giving bad reviews and normally if we have a bad experience I don't write one but today was kinda awful. We ordered our food at 1228. It was not at full capacity in the bar but apparently it. Well after waiting 50 minutes and as I watched two tables that arrived after us get their food I finally asked the bartender where our food was. She said they were backed up because it was national hot dog day. I pointed at a table that had just arrived and who had their food already and said I don't understand how they got their food already when we have been waiting for almost an hour. She went to the kitchen to get an update. When she came back out instead of coming to us at the table I ended up having to go back to her at the bar to see what was taking so long. She said they were really backed up today and that the pasta dish we ordered was the reason it was taking so long and that it would be another 10 minutes. I did not realize it takes 1 hr to cook pasta. She said that they can cancel my order and refund us so that's what we did. We then went to Rosie's and had an amazing meal. Better Communication from the start would have been great. Letting us know that pasta would take 1 hr would have been helpful. Using national hot dog day as an excuse for taking an hour for pasta made zero sense to me. Makes me think our food was never even started because the refund was offered very quickly. This place holds a fun funky hole in the wall kind of scenery with a collection of regulars who know each other by name and drifters from all over that somehow find their way to Wildwood. They offer a variety of unique hotdogs, (my favorite being the smoked slaw dog with saracha mayo add the loaded chips) pasta dishes, flat bread pizzas, and an amazing philly cheese steak sandwich ( you will want the beer cheese on it!) they have the best bartenders in the city and some amazing cocktail choices. A clear solid choice in this town. Eclectic and offbeat the interior is fascinating. The drinks are reasonably priced and the order at the bar works well. The food is up very quickly indeed and is of very high quality. My Korean Sub was spot on. What is not obvious is that food is spiced. The chicken quesadilla had a little too much oomph which overwhelmed the already mild flavours so know this before you go if you cant abide chilli peppers. Food was a good price paid for solid meals. On a Sunday in the Shoals area, especially Florence Alabama, not much is open. It is a church town, and you have to dig for signs of life. On Yelp I found that Wildwood tavern was open and very nearby our hotel, the GunRunner. My husband and I decided to walk, and I'm glad we did. We found the sidewalk area to the entrance of the bar to be so beautiful and charming. You enter the bar and it is small, but very warm, colorful, and welcoming. There is not a lot of table service- you do have to order everything at the bar. We got a table and ordered some dinner, which I might reserve for late night dining in the future- maybe not for a main meal. We made friends with some folks at the bar, who bought us some tequila shots. They gave us suggestions of local attractions to see, and told us the best times to see them. We did not make it to the game room area, but it did look very friendly and fun. Dogs are welcome so we got to pet an adorable Golden retriever. Their whole food menu is flatbreads and hot dogs and a few sandwiches kind of all with the same 10 different treatments. I had the jalapeno popper dog on a poppy seed bun, which I should have had two of! Very good. My husband had a pizza with pepperoni. Something that I loved about this bar was that it felt like an "everyone bar". I saw straight people, LGBTQIA+ people, locals and out of town guests alike. It made me feel safe and comfortable when out of my element. We walked back to the hotel via an alley which was painted colorfully and made for some great Instagram posts!
