Roasted Salmon with succotash, mashed sweet potatoes, and a delicious cajun cream sauce (Bone-in pork chop in the background)
    Tyger I.

Didn't expect much from the less-formal restaurant in the hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised! Very great flavor combos and a friendly atmosphere. He got the Bone-in Pork Chop - the spoon bread was like thicker cheesy grits - yum!, and he loved the chop. I got the Roasted Salmon - it came with mashed sweet potatoes, succotash, and a cajun cream sauce. I don't usually go for things with the word cajun in them, but it wasn't spicy at all, and I sopped up every last bit of it. The salmon was tasty and well cooked. Word of warning: there is bacon in their succotash - it gave it a smoky flavor that worked well with the corn and lima beans, but if you are a pescatarian, you will want to avoid that. It was the server's 50th birthday and we were happy to see her family celebrating there with her since she had to work. I got a lemon cake desert that had cheesecake on top and a raspberry jam crumble thing going on on the bottom. It was good, but hard to eat, as it kept falling apart. :) In a neighborhood without many restaurant options, this place still qualifies as a hidden gem!

Portobello sandwich with sweet potato fries

Excellent bar service from Thalea?) and food was tasty!! I got a grilled veggie sandwich with sweet potato fries and the slippery sucker was tasty but needs different bread or panzanella salad style instead.

    Cheesecake

The best sweet potato fries I ever had. The cheeseburger did not look impressive but was so juicy and full of flavor I wanted two. The fried chicken with cheese grits was so full of flavor my husband didn't need his dipping sauce. We had to have desert just to see if it was up to the same standards. The bourbon brioche bread pudding was awesome. We also had the blueberry cake. We will definitely be back for breakfast and every time we come here we will be back.

    Belgian waffle and seasonal berries.

I had breakfast at this location and my overall experience was okay. The hostess and waitress were nice and polite. The place is quiet with a few other diners on a Tuesday morning. My food was pretty simple but it was okay for my purpose; I just needed to kill time and I was hungry. I ordered the Belgian waffle without butter, seasonal berries, and water. The waffle was a bit overpriced at $8. It wasn't too thick but I honestly expected the thinner version from this place so no hopes were up. I like the touch of confectioners sugar on top. The bowl of berries consisted of only strawberries. It would have been nice to get maybe some blueberries in there for $6. The amount of sliced strawberries filled the small bowl but $6 is pretty steep. I can buy a package of whole strawberries for that price or less. They unfortunately don't have pure maple syrup; they offer artificial syrup. Sugar free syrup is also available. Overall I wouldn't prefer to return to eat here again but it's good for getting a meal in and hunger out. I'd return if there wasn't a better choice and I'm in this area again. The staff I interacted with was a good experience and it's not their fault my food was overpriced.

The service and food were excellent! Just for clarification, we were the only guests at the time of our dinner - but our waitress, Michelle, did not skimp on service, even with our being the only patrons in the place. She walked out to check on us on a regular basis and didn't just ask how we were doing from the bar. Both the appetizer (Cesar Salad) and the main entree (Chicken Marsala) were delicious! To be fair, the vegetable side dish had a touch too much salt. We ordered the Cheesecake to go. The food was served promptly and properly prepared. We would highly recommend this place.

I was already not in the mood for anymore drinking after spending a weekend in a major tournament in Lynchburg. Anyways, for a Saturday evening, this place was pretty packed both inside and outside. We both ended up getting a flight of beers each and every one was great. The food surprised me as my fish tacos was super fresh. The chips and queso was also great. Overall, a must see - especially for the view of the mountains if you decided to eat outdoors.

They just do them all very slowly or at least they did when I was there. We came here on a Monday evening, and it was somewhat busy but there were visible empty tables and a couple spots at the bar. We went to the bar and waited awhile before the bartender asked what we wanted. I didn't ask for a flight because he seemed too busy. Whatever I wanted they were out of, but I ended up with an Imperial 16-point IPA which was quite tasty. I also got some chicken nachos, but I had to go stand in line to order them. They were adequate but not worth the wait. The place was very disorganized. They had workers always standing by the hostess desk, but the bartender was overwhelmed. Seemed like they should have had more than one, after all it is a brewery. Would have loved to try more beer but we just left and went back into Lexington for another round at another place. I don't know maybe it was just a bad night.

Like, "did I just wander into a rustic resort?" levels of big and every corner has its own personality. First stop? The farm market. And listen... I could've spent my entire vacation budget right there. Shelves stacked with homemade canned goods, sauces, jams, salsa, pickled everything, and more pumpkins than Cinderella could handle. Total cozy-country heaven. The grounds are seriously gorgeous. You get these pockets of space that feel secluded and peaceful, almost like a secret beachy cabin retreat dropped into the Virginia mountains. There are tons of tables outside so you can sip and snack in the sunshine, plus a driving range, volleyball pits, and a giant "LOVE" sign that basically begs you to take a photo. Inside, the bar is warm, rustic, and charming the kind of spot that feels like it was built for good drinks and even better stories. They had a food truck the day we visited (I didn't see in-house food options), which just added to that relaxed, festival-by-the-lake feeling. Between the gorgeous scenery, the spacious layout, the drinks, and the vibes? This was easily one of my favorite stops on our travels. 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat.

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I was also awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And 1772 Rooftop on Main, a very unique restaurant and bar, located in the historic town of Fincastle, Virginia is a perfect example. From the moment I heard about this place I couldn't help stop thinking about going there one day and having a memorable dining experience. One like none other ever before. The owners of this restaurant had that rare creative imagination of coming up with the concept of a restaurant and bar located in a historic building with lots of character and charm. Starting from its quaint handcrafted bar and dining room located next to its semi-open kitchen on the first floor, to the rooftop open dining patio with stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the historic Fincastle Courthouse, originally designed by Thomas Jefferson. This together with the uniqueness of the rooftop patio having a bar made out of an old Beechcraft V Tail Bonanza plane that was purchased from Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, Virginia. Once a fully functional aircraft is now the center of attention of the 1772 rooftop dining patio. After making a six o'clock reservation for a Friday evening to this family-owned restaurant and bar, I checked on my cellphone and driving on the alternative route of 220 it would only take me 31 minutes to get there from Roanoke, Virginia. I enjoyed the ride in my pearl white Lexus Luxury Edition listening to music on its powerful radio. When I arrived it didn't take long for me to find a huge parking lot conveniently located about a block away from the restaurant. Once inside, a friendly young lady greeted me at the Host's station and confirmed my reservation. I asked to be seated at the indoor dining room where I could see their kitchen and observe their operation, and then I would visit the rooftop on my way out. She leadi me pass an area of beautiful wooden shelves with item for sale, and through a hallway into the indoor dining room and bar, where she handed me the menu. It didn't take long for my server, another young lady, to welcome me, answer some questions about the menu, and take my order. The menu was not large but full of very desirable items that would want to make me return to try them all. I ordered a Pepsi to drink. A House Salad to start off with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. And an 8oz tender top cut Sirloin, their Baseball Sirloin as my main entrée. It was served with whipped potatoes and sautéed zucchini & squash. The salad was simply amazing. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. The main entrée was also exquisite. They had a wonderful team of chefs who knew how to bring out the best in every dish they prepared. For dessert I had a slice of their Peanut Butter pie. It was delicious but brought frozen and thus hard to eat. I would suggest they do something to thaw the pie a little like they do in other restaurants for the customers to better enjoy the dessert dining experience. When finished eating, I paid with my credit card and went upstairs to the rooftop. It was wonderful. A full-house of customers enjoying a good time together, with good food and good drinks. All the servers were very friendly and welcoming, creating the ideal ambiance for an extraordinary dining experience and night out.
