    Margherita pizza

Amazing pizza. possibly the best pizza i've had ever. The vodka sauce and tomato sauce was outstanding. There was quite a wait before we got our pizza, but for us it was worth it.

I enjoyed the beers - Chess Club Fist Fight and Arcadian Rhythm were standouts. Also love that they had a Brown Ale (Bob Paisley) on tap, which is uncommon. Got a flight and also tried some of the Castle Hill Cider. Service was fast and friendly, and the place had a cool vibe on the inside. Food was more of a mixed bag. We had a Portobello pizza, which was a little lacking in substance for the price. Also two Carnivore Paninis that were a little greasy and light on the mozzarella cheese. While everything was cooked well, few of the flavors really stood out.

The fungi panini was absolutely delicious! My husband and I will be stopping here again next time we come to Lexington ‍

Heliotrope Brewery I love the vibes right when walking into Heliotrope. Their beers and glasses are also beautiful which is an added bonus. This was my second time visiting and we always get the gluten free pizza. This is the best gluten free crust I've ever had, hands down. What we ordered hummus plate with pita and add on veggies always sunny - oil based, shaved sirloin, sautéed pepper and onions, garlic provolone, and cheese wiz carnivore - red sauce, capicola, salami cotta, Italian sausage, bacon, mozzarella, finished with rosemary chimichurri To add on to the experience, you get pizza scissors to cut your own pie!

My sister and I were on a hiking weekend in the area, and we hit this place up for lunch after a lengthy morning hike. Good beer, great service, and incredible food. The bartender made recommendations for beers to try based on our preferences, and she was spot-on. She also helped us decide on food options that would be filling without being too heavy. Everything was super fresh. The veggie and hummus platter was such a surprise just how good it was. The pizza comes with a pair of scissors to cut slices, which was comical but was really nice to cut exactly as much as we wanted. The pizza was great, but it was the dough (which was the same as the Flatbread that came with the dip platter) that was our favorite part of the meal. We both kept going back for more dip with the bread, even after we were full, because it was just that good!

This has become my favorite lunch stop on my travels past I81 and I64. Mainly bc I love love love great beer. I have lauded the quality of IPAs and stouts on Untappd. See Untappd for some of the crisp, dry terrific IPAs they make. The barrel aged stouts are beautiful. But let's go food, the brick oven pizzas are scrumptious, unusual and with fresh ingredients. The carnivore for example has Italian meats, dried cured delicious. The salads are not to be missed, there are often only two but everyone I've had was spectacular. One was a fresh seasonal peach salad. Another a caprese...wow. So good. It's a gorgeous historic town with two historic universities, but I'll say this too. The clear display of inclusion (see picture) in the window made a wonderful impact on me personally as an ally. Well done. I'll return again and again.

Ambiance (5/5): It has a very clean and calm vibe. Drinks (5/5): They had a limited selection of beer. We got the Berry Sagittarius sour smoothie beer (half-pour $5, full-pour $7). It was absolutely delicious! If you're passing through Lexington, I recommend swinging by Heliotrope to try this beer!

Food was great. Innovative ideas for the pizza and well prepared. Edges could have been cooked a tiny bit more

Ask the Community - Heliotrope Brewery

Does your pizza crust have egg?

We make our own hand tossed dough daily and it has no egg in it. We also sell gluten free crusts which we don't make ourselves. The manufacturer says they are egg free. (Our kitchen is not celiac safe though.)

    Any gluten friendly options?

Yes! We have gluten free dough (but our kitchen isn't celiac safe), a variety of salads, hummus, labneh and dahl.

I was already not in the mood for anymore drinking after spending a weekend in a major tournament in Lynchburg. Anyways, for a Saturday evening, this place was pretty packed both inside and outside. We both ended up getting a flight of beers each and every one was great. The food surprised me as my fish tacos was super fresh. The chips and queso was also great. Overall, a must see - especially for the view of the mountains if you decided to eat outdoors.

They just do them all very slowly or at least they did when I was there. We came here on a Monday evening, and it was somewhat busy but there were visible empty tables and a couple spots at the bar. We went to the bar and waited awhile before the bartender asked what we wanted. I didn't ask for a flight because he seemed too busy. Whatever I wanted they were out of, but I ended up with an Imperial 16-point IPA which was quite tasty. I also got some chicken nachos, but I had to go stand in line to order them. They were adequate but not worth the wait. The place was very disorganized. They had workers always standing by the hostess desk, but the bartender was overwhelmed. Seemed like they should have had more than one, after all it is a brewery. Would have loved to try more beer but we just left and went back into Lexington for another round at another place. I don't know maybe it was just a bad night.

Devil's Backbone, like a good story, doesn't try too hard--and that's exactly why it works…read more We wandered in for an early dinner, the kind of stop you tell yourself will be quick and sensible. But the beer had other ideas. As expected, it was excellent--cold, confident, and clearly in no mood to be rushed. Everything was clean and orderly. The burger arrived and did not disappoint. Honest, well-made, the sort of meal that reminds you why you ordered it in the first place. My wife's brisket sandwich, meanwhile, was everything brisket ought to be--tender, rich, and just indulgent enough to feel like a reward rather than a mistake. Fries came alongside, hot and crisp, doing their job without complaint or ceremony. And then, on the way out--as these things tend to happen--we stopped at the bar. That's where we met Vance. What followed was less a quick cocktail and more a conversation with drinks attached. The cocktails were excellent, but the company made them memorable. Vance makes a great adult beverage. All in all, Devil's Backbone isn't just a place to eat and drink. It's a place where a simple plan quietly turns into a better evening than you expected.

We visited around 3:00 p.m., well before the dinner rush, so we weren't expecting service delays or other issues. Unfortunately, the food was bland, overly oily, and significantly overpriced for the quality. We used to come here regularly and always enjoyed it, but it just isn't what it once was. The dining area was also uncomfortably warm, as the air conditioning didn't appear to be on. The only relief came when the kitchen door opened. Service felt rushed and impersonal as well--we were greeted with a curt "Where do you want this plate?" when our food arrived, which didn't make us feel particularly welcome. The property itself remains a lovely place to spend some time outdoors, but based on this visit, we wouldn't recommend it as a destination for dinner. We hope the restaurant can return to the level of quality and hospitality it once offered.

By doing so I was able to confirm firsthand my suspicion of my amazing finding and wanted to share with the readers of my review so that they too are able to enjoy this golden needle in the haystack never explored, yet in their back yard. But before I begin, I would like to thank and give tribute to the business partners who came up with idea of this place and never allowed their life circumstances get in the way of making their dream come true for all of us, the community, to be able to share and enjoy. Twisted Track Brewpub is more than just a full-service brewery and kitchen, serving upscale food and beverages in a cool and relaxed environment. It is the perfect meeting place and entertainment venue for families and friends to meet and share quality time with each other in a safe and amusing place. First of all I was very impressed by the beautiful, open space architectural design of the building's interior as well as its exterior front seating area patio. They are welcoming and make you feel at home. When you arrive and walk inside you are immediately captivated by the place with tables and chairs all over, and a ramp and stairs that lead to a counter high above where orders are taken and paid for after you've had an opportunity to examine the menus which have been placed on every table. There "just the right size" and quality food selection menu made me want to enjoy all items listed. Especially accompanying them with a side of their very unique and amazing fat curly fries, which they call "Twisted Fries." At the counter, and extremely welcoming and friendly young lady greeted me with a smile and explained the variety of drinking items available, including very creative non-alcoholic drinks, such as the Collective Art Guava Go, which I ended up having. After ordered this and a Pulled Pork Sandwich with an order of Twisted Fries, I paid and was given my drink and a beeper to notify me when my order was ready and to go pick it up at the order pickup counter. After I sat down at a table of my choosing facing a small stage on the left side of the building, the beeper beeped and I went to pick up my order. Again the staff their were very friendly and nice. They even allowed me to photograph other menu items that were waiting on the counter for my readers to be able to view and admire. Then as I enjoyed the food that was amazingly delicious, including those amazing Twisted Fries, I looked around and the clientele seemed to be just normal and clean folks enjoying a good time. There was a group of what looked like business associates at one of the large tables. A family at another table, where the father was playing UNO with his son, using gigantic size cards. A couple at another table and so on. Many seemed like repeat customers. Since it was a Friday evening. Friday, January 17th to be more precise. It was Live Music Night and William Seymour, a musician and recording artist from Noth Carolina was scheduled to perform. He practiced on the stage for a while. Them came down and handed out his very creative square business cards with a QR code to be able to pay for TIPS and merchandise with venmo. He then went up the stage and sang and played his guitar. To conclude all I can say is: What an extraordinary dining and entertaining experience this has been. I highly recommend this place for an enjoyable evening with family and friends, and am honored to be the one who has been able to make you aware of this gem of a place.
