My inner child has been calling to me for a few months... I've been so badly wanting to get back into ballet specifically pointe. I dedicated years to it but stopped in my late teens. So this was a big step to buy a new pair of pointe shoes again. The Red Shoes is a store I passed by often but unfortunately it was closed by the time I was around. Thankfully today I caught the shop open and I'm so glad I did!! Lilly was absolutely phenomenal. She made the process so much easier with her kindness, patience and knowledge. I cannot stress how knowledgeable, patient and kind she was. I didn't feel judged for being an adult coming in to get a pair of pointe shoes which was a great feeling! She took lots of time to work with me to find the perfect fit for each foot and even showed me all the new ways pointe has become a little more comfortable. From the ouch pouch to clear stretch tips! On top of her great customer service, the price of everything I left with today was extremely fair. Lilly went above and beyond and not only helped me but made me feel welcomed (which from what I remember as a kid, it wasn't always that way in many ballet spaces). I also want to mention her co-worked (unfortunately I didn't get the name) but she was also very sweet too! This is he cutest little store. There was a group of older ladies when I arrived here promptly at 1pm. The shop's sales person told me that the bunch of ladies there were all just there to hang out and talk. No matter. I was there to mainly take a look around at what they had. I was able to find my lil girl some tights for tonight's ballet class. Somehow the pair she had went missing and our nearest 3 Target locations didn't have 'em in her size. We also have been looking for better ballet shoes for my lil one. So this preliminary visit was a good one for us to be able to take a look and to see if they might have her size in stock. We got some good suggestions and we'd like to return soon with our little one so that we can get her fitted for some shoes. (I will admit there was a kind of odor in the air in the shop. I don't know if it was coming from a particular person or if it might have been coming from the bunch of older adults there who often release more CO2 and therefore there's a different "scent" of people of that age range. Who knows, just be aware and be kind.) Parking can be difficult as there is only street parking. I got lucky and was able to find a spot. This quaint little area is so nice to take a stroll through. If you have ballet needs, definitely come here. I feel like if they aren't able to help you, they might be able to steer you towards the right direction at least. read more

My little three year old recently started ballet and tap class. She was so excited, but I was not, thinking only of the amount I would have to spend on shoes and what not. I could not find cheap tap shoes anywhere! Well, I ventured to the Red Shoes knowing they would have them and cringing at how much I anticipated paying. However, they had reasonable prices on shoes. $25. Not too bad. I also bought a little leotard that the bubbah grabbed and wouldn't put down. The best part about coming here is the great feeling I have supporting a local business. It's a tiny shop filled with only dancing accessories. The associate was very helpful and knowledgeable and she gave the bubbah a little tiny dancing figurine which didn't leave her hands for hours. Very sweet little shop! read more

I have never been to a store like this, but my daughter just started ballet and needed pretty much everything. They were very helpful and didn't make a fuss when I needed to exchange her shoes for a larger size. They even stayed open for me because I was running late. I explained how tall and what age of my daughter. The seller chose s/m for my 5" daughter, she said that it should be fine. If it doesn't fit, don't make it dirty, you can exchance. After I came back home, I asked my daughter to shower before trying on the outfit. The tight is too small, she can't even pull it up. So I went to the store for exchange, the other seller said that I can't exchange because the policy of the store. I told her that the other seller chose and told me that I CAN EXCHANGE. I got fitted for my first ever pointe shoes here with Alice last year. I love this place, Alice and Hilary were so delightful and made my experience so pleasant. I discovered my love of dancing late like into my late 20s and didn't get to go en pointe until I was 27 LOL. Anyways I got fitted with a bloch pointe shoe and honestly these have worked out so well for me. I have repurchased the same style of pointe shoes from Alice and when I went she was so nice and fun to talk to and catch up with. I got fitted elsewhere and did try a few different shoes and those shoes have not worked out for me. Very annoying to spend money on shoes that just wont work for you. My son has been dancing for years and has taken ballet classes for some time now. He's had private lessons and been a member of numerous ballet academies. Although he knows that boys typically do not dance on pointe, he loves it and dances that way all the time. His ballet instructors often let him use their pointe shoes and he dances on pointe during class. He's gotten pretty good. Now, we walked into the store asking to see their pointe shoes and this old grey haired bat told him that boys cannot dance on pointe. My son asked her again to see the shoes, and she continued to repeat the same thing over and over that boys cannot dance on pointe and could only use ballet slippers. I wanted to show her over 20 video clips on my phone of my son dancing on pointe to show her its done all the time. Now I understand that is not the norm, but at the same time he was a 12 year old kid asking to buy something that he was willing to pay for but she refused to sell them to him. I know very little about ballet, but I do know about children and I do know about business ,and i would never have let a client of mine walk out of my office with the same crestfallen disposition that my little one did when he walked out of that store. But really I kept asking myself what the hell did she care anyway, he could of taken them home and set them on fire, who gives a shit? This old lady should be ashamed of herself and publicly flogged for her rotten attitude and outdated mentality. Such ignorance has no place this world, much less in a store that owes its existence to the arts where social paradigms and constructions are supposed to be challenged. I hope one day this lady walks into a local establishment only to be told they don't sell to old grey haired women. Sounds silly right? read more

Really dispointed in them. You need to know what you are buying or elas they will push something on you that is non refundable. I was so hopeful when I walked in and felt like it was a mom and pop store from my childhood. One of the things I notice while waiting for the older sale woman, was really try to sale up and push extra things on you as if you really needed it. I got the younger one lucky and she was much more honest. I bought my first pair of flamenco shoes for them. I need a wide size and I was told that I had to order them. My mistake was I paid ahead for them. I was told that they would call me no later then a week. Got a call the next day telling me my order was taken wrong, but after a few mins, the lady realize it was taken down correctly. A week later, no call. So I called them a week and half later, only to get an explanation that it was in sorta of and they were going to call me about it. Appealingly, the company stop making the shoe in wide and they told me to come in to pick between a 8.5 or 9. They found this out a few days ago, and was meaning to call me. I came in and got the older sales woman from earlier (should have been a warning sign). I tried them on, going with the larger size, and she said that they looked fine. Then send me on my way. Excited, I took a class from my teacher's assistant and within 3 mins my feet felt like 1/3 circulation was cut off to the front of my foot, and felt like I was going to fall over. Thinking it need to be broken in, I beared with it, losing all feeling in that area, and really mean losing all circulation as if it was in a tourniquet. My teacher, who is a professional flamenco dancer for over 20 years, walked by the class. I showed her my new shoes and she without batting an eye knew what was wrong with the shoes. She said, that this cut did not fit my foot because you cause see how I stood in them, how much it was squeezing out my foot and was shocked that the lady sold me the shoes. The only way to fix the shoe was to cut out the front to take some of the pressure off of my foot but that would compromise the structure of the shoe. She told me to take it back cause there was even with all the stretching I can do, it will still mess up my foot due to the cut of the shoe. She kept on saying she was really surprise that the lady sold it to me like that since it was so noticeable. I called and got the same older lady that said my shoes were fine, she said since I used them once in class that I couldn't exchange them. Then lady told me that all dance shoe will hurt (I've had a few dance shoes when I was a kid till HS and yes, they hurt till you break it in but never had one that cut off circulation like a tourniquet). I explained to her how it was cutting circulation because of the cut of the front of the shoe was wrong for my feet. She told me again that all dance shoes hurt, and that I just need to bring it in and buy shoe padding. So, I'm out $100 on a pair of shoe I can't wear. I can't afford to buy anther pair of $100 shoes for a while. So I'm doing without right now. Parking: Street and limited to 2 hr Service: Depends on who you get. Talk to your teacher to make sure what you really need and do not let them sell you up/add things to your bill. Warning: They only allow exchange (unused), and no refunds. I recently started doing more ballet again in hopes of getting back into shape after having a baby. I have always wanted to try pointe again after a brief stint with pointe back in college. I tried on my old pointe shoes and sure enough, my feet have gotten bigger since the pregnancy :( I asked my ballet teacher for a referral to a good dance store that can fit me for a new pair of pointe shoes. She told me to give Red Shoes a try. I went there on a Thursday evening since that is the only day during the week they are open past 5:00 PM, the parking was tough due to the Farmer's Market across the street. The girl who fitted me knew exactly what shoes to fit me in when I told her my situation and experience. She fitted me in 5 different pairs and gave me the details on every shoe. I had done some research prior to going there as well as asking my teacher for advice. The fitter did a great job of putting me in the right shoes and brand for my feet. I made my choice and have been very happy with my purchase after wearing them for a few classes now. I have gone back and back because, let's face it....dance wear is fucking badass. Years ago I eyed these absolutely beautiful split sole dance sneakers that could be used for ballet practice or jazz. I have been going to Red Shoes for my pointe shoes, flat shoes, tights, leotards and warm ups for over 20 years. Alice, the owner, is highly knowledgeable and really cares about her customers. She fitted my very first pair of pointe shoes when I was little, and I consulted her about pointe shoe fit over my career as a professional dancer. It is really important to go in the store and actually try on your pointe shoes, as fit is so critical. Alice was so wonderful over the years that I still drop in to Red Shoes even though I'm retired from ballet. The staff is welcoming and helpful. I have never had a bad experience at Red Shoes or with any employee there. I love the range of leotards they have! The prices are competitive and it is nice to actually try on leotards etc. to see the fit, rather than ordering on-line. There is also a bargain bin where you can find some really great stuff. I love Alice and the Red Shoes. First off, you MUST have a dance shoe fitted to your individual foot because everyone's needs are different. Don't think you can buy on line and eye ball it. So if you MUST buy on line, pay for a shoe fitting service with Alice (ESPECIALLY FOR POINT SHOES). Second, there are so few brick and mortar stores left, let's all support this one so that there is somewhere to go when we need in person help. Third, I feel so happy when I interact with their staff. Everyone is cheerful, and I just feel good when I leave (and I almost don't want to leave). One note, this is a small Mom and Pop (with no Pop) store, so hours are not all day every day. If you need help outside of business hours, Alice is available by phone. She has opened the store an hour earlier for me when I have needed it. And they will stay an hour later if you are already in the store and half way through what you need. Alice loves to talk to people and get to know them. She will order things for you if she doesn't have what you need. She will hold things for you while you look at other stores (if you can find another store). She will exchange unworn shoes if there is something not right about what you bought (but ask about time limits on that offer before you buy. She has always been flexible with me, but you will need to discuss that before purchase). We have enjoyed working with her and her staff to solve any of our dance supply needs. I have been consistently pleased with the quality of customer service from the ladies at The Red Shoe. The store is small but is packed and has never not had an item we needed or wanted. They are in good communication with the local dance studios so they make sure to be stocked up on any assigned uniform requirements. Alice, the owner, fit her first pair of pointe shoes and my daughter has continued to purchase almost everything she has needed to dance (both professionally and in teaching) from The Red Shoes. From the time she was very young it was clear that to get a really good fit in a pointe shoe she had to try on each pair until she found just the right fit (pointe shoes vary from one pair to the next, even with the same maker) -- and Alice is terrific at giving knowledgeable advice in this area.
