My wife and I had such a great experience at The Charmant. The food was delicious, the drinks were spot on, and the service couldn't have been better. Everything about the night just felt special. Definitely a place we'd recommend to anyone visiting and or living in La Crosse.

This place was right near the water in a very cool old building that was converted into a hotel. They had a lovely breakfast menu with espresso drinks which was perfect before we went on a long hike. Server was kind.

This year, we included The Charmant in our Christmas Eve itinerary. We enjoyed dinner first before heading across the street to see the Rotary Light Display. The front desk clerk was very helpful and friendly when we arrived and directed us in the right direction. We had a great conversation about cell phone cameras. Our waiter was also super friendly and very knowledgeable. I was wowed by the extensive list of wine, beer, scotch, bourbon, and whiskey. I enjoyed one glass of wine, which teased the thousands of taste buds in my mouth. The French Onion soup was the best I have ever had. On my next visit to The Charmant the French Onion soup is all I want. The scallops I ordered were served on a bed of wild rice with toasted walnuts. The rice was also the best I have tasted. Tony ordered his usual steak and really enjoyed his meal. The venue is amazing and the view of the Rotary Lights added to the evening.

We're staying at the Charmant Hotel in La Crosse for a second time. We tried the restaurant for the first time...and we're so glad we did. We ventured from our room to the restaurant on a comfortable Sunday morning and discovered that their Weekend Brunch is popular. Their dining room was "fully committed" per the hostess. She offered us seating in the bar with a full menu and service. It was comfortable and our server was prompt and pleasant. I ordered the Shakshuka with a side of bacon and potatoes. My wife chose the Charmant Breakfast with scrambled eggs and link sausage. Both were excellent. The stars of the meal were the crispy smashed breakfast potatoes and the bacon and sausage from a local meat purveyor - St. Joe's Country Market. I seldom use this statement in my review but I'm going to use it here - "the best bacon I've ever tasted!" - and that's the truth. It was thick cut, smoked perfectly, and tender. Grilled to perfection. The sausage links were also good, but not to the degree of the bacon. We both loved the crispy smashed breakfast potatoes. The eggs were expertly prepared, and the Shakshuka was flavorful with its tomatoes, peppers, and feta cheese. The Restaurant at the Charmant is a serious contender for breakfast in La Crosse. Get your reservations early and give it a try.

    Mushroom Bolognese

The mushroom bolognese was the most disappointing meal. It just tasted like noodles and watered down mushrooms, no flavor at all. I took two bites and pushed it aside and just ate my fries (those were really good). Was asked if I wanted a box and said no. Surprised the waitress didn't ask why, she just took my completely full bowl away. I was also sitting alone and it wasn't busy. Did not get a water refill. I can't believe I paid $25 for that entree. Usually the food here is good, I don't know how that made it on the menu. Is there not supposed to be even a touch of tomato paste or cream or something in this? Just minced mushroom.

    The burger... just great

If visiting the beautiful town of la crosse Wisconsin one would be remiss to not eat at the Charmont restaurant inside the hotel. We sat at the bar and had a fabulous experience.

If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, the Charmant is a MUST. I stopped into two other spots nearby looking for a nice glass of wine and brunch, but couldn't find anything (even at nearby wine bars). Charmant's menu is on point, service is great and the environment is FAB for enjoying yourself. Definitely recommend!

High end restaurant within the boutique hotel that is The Charmant. What used to be an old candy factory is now turned into a hotel with this as its flagship restaurant, and within a small town like La Crosse, I was very impressed with the place here. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 9/10 The restaurant and hotel are structured fittingly as a high end dining experience within a boutique hotel and makes for a great dinner spot. Overall the scenery and setting was nice for dinner. SERVICE: 9/10 Service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and familiar with the menu and overall, I had a good experience. FOOD: 9/10 Duck Confit - 10/10 - This was utterly fantastic. Very seldomly do I order duck off the menu at a western style restaurant as I am so used to Asian style duck that very little can compete with Peking duck. However, if there is anything that is on that same tier, this would be it. I'd have never guessed this would be that good. The duck was moist, seasoned to perfection and the citrus flavors of the sauce it came with complemented the dish perfectly. I cannot say that I have had a duck dish on this level from a western restaurant. Steak Frites - 8/10 - This was a pretty standard steak and fries dish. It was nothing that would stand out to me amongst other steaks, but it was not bad. Next to the duck though, this far paled in comparison. VALUE: 8/10 This is a higher end restaurant so of course, it is pricey. However, for what you are getting, I find it very reasonable. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 9/10 I would come back for that duck for sure. TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: Worth a shot if you want a high end experience in La Crosse. OVERALL: 9/10

If I could give the rooftop service, food and drink a zero, I would. Ordered a wine for $12 that tasted worse than a $3 bottle from Trader Joe's. Ordered 2 of the pizzas, looked decent enough however HOLY SALT!! It was barely edible. Our waitress was nonexistent. After our drinks and pizzas were dropped at our table we never saw her again. Finally did go get our check, walked away without clearing any dirty dishes. Grabbed a guy that said he was a manager, explained the bad service and salty pizza. This was his reply "That's how they make them here." Proceeded to grab our dishes and walked away. What kind of place is this?? Do yourself a favor and go across the street to 4 Sisters, Tanner and his staff will treat you well.

My husband got the lamb wellington but they didn't have lamb and offered beef instead. The sauce was overly salted. So i couldn't try more than the tiny bite i took. I got The lobster risotto. It had mixed reviews but i thought i would try it and have my own judgement. It was also the waitresses favorite. I will say, the herbs in the risotto was over powering and the lobster which was supposed to be poached tasted grilled and was over cooked. Like many other reviews, i couldn't cut it with my butter knife. Perhaps a steak knife would've helped. But it still doesn't help the fact that it was over cooked. The side of butter was unnecessary as everything was too flavorful. And the edamames were just a tad bit too much. Escargot was over cooked. The herb butter was flavorless. We were very disappointed as this was what we were looking forward to the most. Fois gre was ok. $200 dinner and we were not impressed. But it was worth a try.
